The motor can easily make over 160 hp modded, but heat becomes an issue. These oil cooled motors run very well if Hp is kept reasonable (under 145hp) and last forever. It is a long stroke design so piston speed gets silly over 9500-10000rpm. Chassis and short swingarm don't deal with the power well, when pushed to extremes....but is fine for goofing off...hey it was never meant to be a race bike.

I have an 2002 Bandit 1200, with basic intake exhaust mods, aftermarket shock and re-valved/sprung fork, geared 5 up on rear. Prob making 115 hp/80lbs tq. but who cares. It is fun to ride. Power is smooth below 4000rpm and brutal above 7000rpm. It will run hard with any bike up to 125mph from any speed (tops around 145-150 mph). Its about the same weight as the new naked streetfighters. It'll run well on the cheapest crap gas out there. Replacement parts are cheap. No antifreeze needed!

Ya know I've had the pleasure of having one at of each. The GSXR1000 is an amazing bike but the torque of my Bandit 1200 is great it doesnt need the rpms's like my GSXR did.

so I have a bandit too with an cobra exhaust with 128,5hp it is not that really much faster than an yamaha R6 but the tourque is amazing!going up the hills you`re really faster than the R6 even when you look at the rpm!or even a bike with equal hp witth less tourque it really needs the rpms!

why +12%? I'm just curious. Is 12% the loss of power at transmition and wheel so you calculate power on engine? Dunno I'm not a bike guy :D

hey boembieks, im thinking about getting a B12 are they fun to ride? had an R6 last year but i want something with more torque and more comfort, plus they look wicked when you streetfighter them up a bit! i took my mates 07 GSXR 1000 out for a spin the other day but that thing was just nuts! cheers

@mably23 Torque is what the Bandit is about . Of course you can't compare with the GSXr . That has over 170bhp .

But the R6 has simply no torque at all .

After a good "torqie" afternoon , a can scratch my knees without bending over .

Just to let you know I highsided myself off my B12 and it is not funny. Broken arm, angry wife and no other bike to ride... ok, ok it was a loose oil sump bolt and i failed to tighten the bolt as I was distracted by neighbour. Just y'all be careful and wear your gear ( which saved me - 60 mph and the gloves and cordura are in shreds) ride in t-shirt and jeans? - forget about living!! Miss the bike big time. One day though...one day I will be back.

Don't understand how you can compair the two, I own ride the '04 1200 and the wife rides the '05 650 both are piped and tuned mine

(1200)is buy far the stronger of the two low,mid,high, don't matter. If compairing the old 600 to the new 650 the 650 still kicks ass,as the old 600 is much heavier and less nimble

BANDITBRON nar not pissed i just own a bandit 600 and i think its the dogs bollocks (well im gunna arnt i) its my third large bike my first was my fav the suzuki gsx-600-f 160 on the clock and id hit 157/8 ish so for an old bike quite fast on top-end and my second was the honda vfr-750 what was very fast all the way then i got my bandit since i got that "im on my high horse" truth is my bandit knocks out about 148 (so-far) with 150 on the clock (all in all) i just love my bandit

Not for 2007, it's actually 1254.8, idiot. For a 2006 you'd be right, but for the person below, if they have a 1250, it's an 07, and you're wrong. Mines a real 1200 too, not 1157, Holeshot FTW! Also got a ported head, K&N ovals, no air box, stage 3 jet kit, gixxer cams, full Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust. 142hp, 94fp. Absolutely NUTS wheelie machine. The power is just so, well, RAW. The delivery is very harsh. Even though the 'bussa's faster, it feels like a pussycat.

I completely agree!!! i've got a busa and a tuned 1200 bandit, got the bandit first... If you wanna go fast get the busa, if you want to have fun on a nuts bike that will pull your arms out their sockets while the front wheel is in the air, and a bike with some attitude to match the insane rider, get a bandit 1200, so much more fun!! the busa IS a pussy cat, too easy to ride too...

I had a 2005 Bandit 12, made 113bhp at the back wheel with nothing more than a Scorpion Carbon exhaust lol, i sold it for a 2003 ZX6r, kind of regret it though because i miss the torque. Next bike is gonna be the Bandits brother, the GSX1400 :) fingers crossed!
