omg soo hard, i fluked out by throwing a EMP and having already an augmented SMG, i was able to just point at his head and fire away without having to reload, he went down and i was a bit surprized by how easy it was despite 5 tries.
This is a really fucking stupid and badly designed boss fight. Unfortunately in general there is a lot of questionable design choices, I don't know why the reviews were so high. As an RPG it's pretty good but the stealth and combat elements are sub-par and not very fun. You just end up reloading constantly because you don't think you did as well as you could have and thus won't get the extra XP for Praxis points.
I hated this battle. It totally took me out of my pacifist play style. Up until then I had ignored guns/killing, as stealthiness is a lot more fun in my opinion. Then I got dumped into this shit heap of a battle, with no guns or weapon upgrades etc. I can't believe the developers did this.
@KYPJH Why? It was easy, you just gotta change your approach a little. If your pacifist, you probably have the stun gun with you. Use it on him, than unload into him with whatever you got. Rinse and repeat.
@DilutedDreams I didn't have the stun gun, I had the tranquilizer rifle, which is useless against him. It just annoyed me that up until then I had been so careful to avoid enemies and had adapted my play style to being sneaky, and then suddenly BOOM GRENADES EVERYWHERE TIME TO TEACH YOU A LESSON BOYSCOUT
@KYPJH Lol, ouch. No EMP grenades either I suppose? If you're able to stun him it become a cakewalk, if you can't than it's down to popping out when he's not huckin' grenades everywhere.
Should always keep that pistol handy, just incase. Also, the extremely cheap way is to just use typhoon on him two or three times than it's GG the fights over.

Playing as a pacifist, this boss was quite tricky to kill. The way I did it was to throw an EMP at him straight away, then turn right and opened the safe with the shotguns at the end of the room. I loaded up on shotguns, grenades and painkillers. I EMP'd him and unloaded 6 shotgun shells into his face, then ran away to hide at the other end of the room. I would save the game every time I did this, as his grenades could take me out easily.
I first tried taking cover behind the concrete thing, but my Barrett doesn't stay still while you shoot him like in this vid, he walks up to you, picks you up and mashes you up in one hit.
Then after reading comments here I threw one EMP at him to stun him, ran to the right, threw two gas canisters at him, ran past him into the little alcove to the right, threw another gas can at him, and he was down. Think he is particularly vulnerable to the gas.
I got my ass kicked until I realized that I could nail him with gas canisters and explosive barrels. Then it took about 30 seconds to nail him to the floor. Bonehead!!
Canister, grab it and throw it at his back then the nearby explosive canister, do the same with the other 2 nearby explosive canisters, hit him with the EMP Grenade, then get in close once the Gas Cloud has dissipated, and roughly 6 Shotgun hits at close range should finish the job. My 100% Tried & Tested method. Enjoy :-)
Better yet, and the way that costs you way less, with 0 health lost, and with all items that are found during the fight.
Duck right immediately after the fight begins, evade him so he loses sight of you travel up this right side to the alcove with the Gun Cabinet full of shotguns, grab them and the EMP Grenade and Frag [you won't use this here] he should be searching for you where he lost sight of you, throwing grenades at thin air like the brickhead he is. near the Gun Cabinet, is a Gas...
On hard all three boss fights done w/o taking any damage. 1st 2 emp then run up and Stun gun repeatedly until they drop.3rd just sprint up instantly stun then move directly behind while reloading, repeat. Easiest boss fights I have ever had in any game , period.
oh wow......took me so long untill i looked up on youtube how to defeat him with barrels (i just learned you could throw them xD) and you took him out with concussion grenades and pistol xDD
@GamingFreaksHD there's an even simpler and lazier way... if you duck behind the concrete barrier and just let rip without aiming (he can't hit you) a heavy rifle...he's finished before he even comes close to you...
@vmontezumar not sure...he definitely kept coming (insert random sex joke :p), but he never made it...I'm pretty sure the heavy rifle had some upgrades, can't remember which ones or how many...done it only once...I'm playing the over again to try other ways(which is why I ended here), and I forgot to take the heavy rifle on this mission ;-)
I also remember ending the final dude with the grenade launcher, the poor sod never even fired off a single round...
@AKAtheA I've just killed this guy and the only way i could do it was throwing the only EMP granade i had and then throwing him toxic cans and then the red cans. Sure it seems an easy boss, but what the hell is the big deal about this? It depends on the way you play it.
@ZomsEcho In the end i managed to kill him turning invisibility on and shotting him in the face a bunch of bullets from the sniper rifle (not the silenced one). But geez, I think I might have tried that for thirty times at least before i was able not to be one-shotted by his damned machine-gun. XD
@DarkArioch Everything you need to despatch him with 100% health remaining is in the room. See my above post or doubtless the many other great methods here. This boss fight is easy.. if he doesn't see you.
This fight was the easiest boss I have ever encountered. Ive stealthed/non lethal the game so far to this point. EMP grenade then walk up and use the stun gun on him, stays stunned between reloads. After about a dozen stuns he drops. You take no damage, use no health packs and fight is over without taking a hit. Too easy. All these drawn out fight explanations are a waste of time lol
@shalizarferalius True, lol. Though being stealth myself I value the prescious StunGun darts, so I used items from the room in which the fight takes place. He drops like a lead balloon.
P.S: In this game you can move with INVISIBILITY ON.... and some people think that THIS BOSS ha RUINED THE GAME because he can take some shots in the head before death? LOL.
Pfff, this part really ruined the game for me. I have only used stealth and hacking so far, without killing. I even sold my guns, because I thought I could pass the game without killing anyone... so, now I'm screwed.
@HeZma oh, also, there's a supply of machine pistols in one of the side rooms of the boss fight you can use, as well as plenty of explosive canisters and gas canisters to throw at him
@HeZma i did what you did aswell but i kept the guns i couldnt find easily. when i fought this guy i had 4 emp grenades, and a rocket launcher, the boss fights can be cake if you play right. besides there are weapons scattered around the grounds
Typhoon...technically thats not using conventional weaponary, its as close to non-lethal as you're gonna get.... this also makes the game pittyfully easy, but I think Barrett fight creates a cutscene if you get too close... killing you in seconds.
@HeZma Boss fights dont ruin the game as their are actually intricate ways to kill them, or bs ways at least. Look at Deus Ex 1, that had boss fights with Walton Simons and Gunther. you can fight them or bypass them in a funny way. HR bosses don't ruin the experience, you can throw the explosive barrels at Barrett, or stun gun Yelena to death, or hell even beat Namir with a single punch. To be fair, the bosses actually added more to the experience to me. Played on hardest difficulty too. Not bad
Give me Deus Ex dif. - Quickly cover behind concrete obstacle, instantly throw 4 prox mines in his direction (I think I disarmed them and grabed them just at the start of factory level). Done in 10 seconds...after hour of frustration with explosive barrels, poison containes, EMPs...
Barrett is fucking easy to kill. You just keep flinging various barells and things at him, dodge his attackes whenever they get a bit too hairy.

@451harri How did you invest everything into stealth? Tell me you didn't get the shitty augs like extended radar and crap? There are plenty enough points you can invest into some combat by that point in the game while also being boss in stealth.
@451harri she is easy to kill, just drop a few explosive mine together in front of you after the first charge so she will hit them when she charge you the 2nd time, then pump her full of lead once she is stun by the explosive and she will die quickly... then collect the mine and ammo around the place to fill up your inventory and leave the place =)
i beat her without any combat upgrade in the 2nd run after I notice she hit and run with typhoon, mines is her natural enemy.

Anyway, I beat her. Just get her to charge the power boxes round the room and leap around to avoid getting shocked from the water on the floor, then pump her full of machien pistol rounds.
I was so upset about this today that I almost gave up. And then I realized it only took three typhoon to take him down. Just fully augment your typhoon and your set.
I have a savegame if anybody wants it (Disclaimer: for PC) It leaves you right after you beat Barret right at the exit elevator of the area where you fight him.
@vyhulmidyck You can buy it from a dealer in an apartment building. Can't remember his name, but the only building access is from a window up a fire escape. Same building the Motor gangbangers are for Cloak and Dagger mission.
@Ricksta103 I defeated him on my normal playthrough without using grenades. I just used the combat rifle (full auto on his head) that I kept around for the boss fights. All it takes is a bit of movement every time he gets close or when Barrett throws a grenade near you.
i cant beat him and now im stuck i have no ammo for my sniper/rocket/ and only 7 shots for the machine gun and i can find 4 darts in the room which does absolutly nothing to him. melee never works so how do i beat him?
@mylegs123 There are gas canisters and oil barrels spread around the room. You can stun Barrett by throwing gas canisters at him. While he is stunned, throw an oil barrel at him. If you repeat this for about three times, he should die.

How does Barrett die here I watched some demos and trailers of Deus ex later in the game and Barrett was on the part later in the game when Jensen plants the c4. Please answer why he isn't there now I've been searching everywhere and couldn't find any answers.
The irony is I actually did w/ a combination of 3 well-placed frag grenade throws and I swear either some help from either is own stupid ass drop his grenade or a conveniently placed fire extinguisher on the column he was standing near.
Not even gonna try to figure out which....the asshat is dead that's all I care about, lol.
Just took him out with about 12 shots of stun gun awesomeness. It's tough getting the first one on him, but the electricity's enough to keep him chain-stunned between shots.
I've JUST beaten him, after several times. Chucking the barrels at him stunned him enough so I could hide. After chucking all of the barrels at him, I chucked a frag, which made him drop his, and he effectively killed himself :D
I have to give you mad props for making this b/c let me tell you I've about damn lost my mind trying fight that bastard, lol. It's also a big relief to see you took him down w/ the gun that you did, as I ironically have my 10mm modded in very similar way--so I at least know it can be done.
For me, the whole barrel, gas canister shit just wasn't cutting it (even though I got the a lil of some strength augs done)--not the way that jackass keeps dumping rounds off like a lunatic.
This has to be the lowest point in modern gaming I've ever witnessed, this game does almost nothing to win me over for the first 2 hours and then I have to do this, just as I'm starting to sort of like it, I have to do this travesty of a boss-fight, it's the most awkward, cumbersome pile of shit part of any game ever. I hate it and this makes me depressed.
For such an awesome game, I can't believe these HORRIBLE HORRIBLE REDICULOUS boss fights made it through QA. The worst boss fights I have ever played, and they somewhat ruined this game for me. What the hell Eidos.
Here's how I did it with no stun gun, no cuncussion grenades, nothing except the combat rifle. first duck and got to the far right corner, there's a gas canister. throw it in barret's face. Unload full clip of combat in his face (head). then run to the right where there's another canister, repeat. done. finished in less than 20 sec.
For everyone whining, just shut up and learn to play better. There's ammo rooms on the side during the boss fight if you really need them, or chuck barrells at him. This isn't a big FPS, so if you go around using up all your ammo and all your grenades prior to this then you're not playing right. I'm playing combat/hacker style, had plenty of stuff to shoot him with. If you have stealth stuff, use it. Hide, take a shot when you can. He's really NOT that hard.
This is fucking bullshit, im still building my stuff up, i have very little ammo, no grenades and im now im stuck at fighting this stupid shit with little or no chance of winning, after like 15 times of dieing and reloading ive got so fedup i cant be fucked to play anymore.
You know what's really bullshit about this boss fight? Right when you start, there is a stone rectangle to your right at the second pillar. A Jensen who has specialized in hacking/stealth can attempt to fight this battle very patiently by sneaking around the stone and pillar, forcing Barrett's AI to track you from one side to the other until he loses sight of you. Now you've got some free head shots. Except if he's right across the pillar, and you are too, he grabs you through the pillar.

If you grab the rocket launcher before this battle it is SO much more easier. hit him with 3 rockets then a couple shots to the head and he's a goner.
@jorisding You know in that big room with the big mech that is patrolling with the guards? it's the room just before this one - It's in there to the left hand side of the area behind a wall.
Imagine coming into the room from the elevator you take down - hide behind the boxes and then go to the left and jump over these big metal pipes blocking the way - and the rocket launcher is sitting on some cargo.
i finally beat him. throw the red barrels at him. he dies easily. of course you can dump 33 rounds in his head with your pistol but like three barrels do the trick. annoying ass game design nonetheless
if you stun him you can grab the red barrels around the room and throw them at him. EMP works the best because you dont have the chance of blinding yourself by accident
Or else you can do what i did, hide behind the barrier right in front of you, chuck 2 frags at his feet, then throw an emp at his feet, unload with combat rifle, throw emp at his feet, unload with combat rifle. died very quick.
I have been playing the game full stealth up until this point and loving it. But then suddenly, here's this bullshit forced shoot-em-up boss fight that not only completely goes against the whole freedom-to-play-how-you-want mentality, but... *all* my weapons, augments, etc have gone towards stealth and complimentary abilities. In other words, I am utterly unprepared for this fight, and since it's not skippable I am basically stuck now until I can find a cheat. Way to ruin the experience.

EMP grenade is the best way to deal with him. Afterwards, unload a magazine of your Assault Rifle into his head. Dead before he even recovers.

This part is very easy even on the hardest difficulty which i play on.
You have multiple ways but i'll say the simplest one.
As you enter the room, skip scene, turn right, you will see two poison gas tank.
Throw the first one, then the second, run past barret on the right, u'll come to a explosion tank throw that at him.
Keep running forward an turn right an u'll come across a room.
You can't miss it it's the only room.
In their to your right, u'll see a silver SAFE......

1) throw 1st gas tank
2)THEN throw an explosive barrel
3)thow the OTHER gas tank
4) rinse and repeat, until out of tanks.
5) at this point, one clip of assault rifle, or one frag grenade, will make it
Note: gas barrels "suppress" him, while explosive barrels don't.
At the end, you can loot all the stuff for yourself, ALL FOR YOURSELF!!!

This fight was the easiest boss I have ever encountered. Ive stealthed/non lethal the game so far to this point. EMP grenade then walk up and use the stun gun on him, stays stunned between reloads. After about a dozen stuns he drops. You take no damage, use no health packs and fight is over without taking a hit. Too easy. All these drawn out fight explanations are a waste of time lol

Pfff, this part really ruined the game for me. I have only used stealth and hacking so far, without killing. I even sold my guns, because I thought I could pass the game without killing anyone... so, now I'm screwed.

@HeZma i did what you did aswell but i kept the guns i couldnt find easily. when i fought this guy i had 4 emp grenades, and a rocket launcher, the boss fights can be cake if you play right. besides there are weapons scattered around the grounds

Typhoon...technically thats not using conventional weaponary, its as close to non-lethal as you're gonna get.... this also makes the game pittyfully easy, but I think Barrett fight creates a cutscene if you get too close... killing you in seconds.

@HeZma Boss fights dont ruin the game as their are actually intricate ways to kill them, or bs ways at least. Look at Deus Ex 1, that had boss fights with Walton Simons and Gunther. you can fight them or bypass them in a funny way. HR bosses don't ruin the experience, you can throw the explosive barrels at Barrett, or stun gun Yelena to death, or hell even beat Namir with a single punch. To be fair, the bosses actually added more to the experience to me. Played on hardest difficulty too. Not bad

Give me Deus Ex dif. - Quickly cover behind concrete obstacle, instantly throw 4 prox mines in his direction (I think I disarmed them and grabed them just at the start of factory level). Done in 10 seconds...after hour of frustration with explosive barrels, poison containes, EMPs...

Barrett is fucking easy to kill. You just keep flinging various barells and things at him, dodge his attackes whenever they get a bit too hairy.

@451harri she is easy to kill, just drop a few explosive mine together in front of you after the first charge so she will hit them when she charge you the 2nd time, then pump her full of lead once she is stun by the explosive and she will die quickly... then collect the mine and ammo around the place to fill up your inventory and leave the place =)
i beat her without any combat upgrade in the 2nd run after I notice she hit and run with typhoon, mines is her natural enemy.

Anyway, I beat her. Just get her to charge the power boxes round the room and leap around to avoid getting shocked from the water on the floor, then pump her full of machien pistol rounds.

@Ricksta103 I defeated him on my normal playthrough without using grenades. I just used the combat rifle (full auto on his head) that I kept around for the boss fights. All it takes is a bit of movement every time he gets close or when Barrett throws a grenade near you.

@mylegs123 There are gas canisters and oil barrels spread around the room. You can stun Barrett by throwing gas canisters at him. While he is stunned, throw an oil barrel at him. If you repeat this for about three times, he should die.

I've JUST beaten him, after several times. Chucking the barrels at him stunned him enough so I could hide. After chucking all of the barrels at him, I chucked a frag, which made him drop his, and he effectively killed himself :D

I have to give you mad props for making this b/c let me tell you I've about damn lost my mind trying fight that bastard, lol. It's also a big relief to see you took him down w/ the gun that you did, as I ironically have my 10mm modded in very similar way--so I at least know it can be done.
For me, the whole barrel, gas canister shit just wasn't cutting it (even though I got the a lil of some strength augs done)--not the way that jackass keeps dumping rounds off like a lunatic.

Here's how I did it with no stun gun, no cuncussion grenades, nothing except the combat rifle. first duck and got to the far right corner, there's a gas canister. throw it in barret's face. Unload full clip of combat in his face (head). then run to the right where there's another canister, repeat. done. finished in less than 20 sec.

For everyone whining, just shut up and learn to play better. There's ammo rooms on the side during the boss fight if you really need them, or chuck barrells at him. This isn't a big FPS, so if you go around using up all your ammo and all your grenades prior to this then you're not playing right. I'm playing combat/hacker style, had plenty of stuff to shoot him with. If you have stealth stuff, use it. Hide, take a shot when you can. He's really NOT that hard.

You know what's really bullshit about this boss fight? Right when you start, there is a stone rectangle to your right at the second pillar. A Jensen who has specialized in hacking/stealth can attempt to fight this battle very patiently by sneaking around the stone and pillar, forcing Barrett's AI to track you from one side to the other until he loses sight of you. Now you've got some free head shots. Except if he's right across the pillar, and you are too, he grabs you through the pillar.

@jorisding You know in that big room with the big mech that is patrolling with the guards? it's the room just before this one - It's in there to the left hand side of the area behind a wall.
Imagine coming into the room from the elevator you take down - hide behind the boxes and then go to the left and jump over these big metal pipes blocking the way - and the rocket launcher is sitting on some cargo.

if you stun him you can grab the red barrels around the room and throw them at him. EMP works the best because you dont have the chance of blinding yourself by accident
Or else you can do what i did, hide behind the barrier right in front of you, chuck 2 frags at his feet, then throw an emp at his feet, unload with combat rifle, throw emp at his feet, unload with combat rifle. died very quick.

I have been playing the game full stealth up until this point and loving it. But then suddenly, here's this bullshit forced shoot-em-up boss fight that not only completely goes against the whole freedom-to-play-how-you-want mentality, but... *all* my weapons, augments, etc have gone towards stealth and complimentary abilities. In other words, I am utterly unprepared for this fight, and since it's not skippable I am basically stuck now until I can find a cheat. Way to ruin the experience.
