I was a rifleman is 1st Plt Marine Barracks Adak 78-79. We did our job during the Cold War. First link in the Chain of Defence. Looks like they remodled the barracks since I was there. too bad they shut the base down, with the ice cap melting and a northern passage opening up we could have use a deep water Naval Base in Alaska.
marine barracks, so sad to see the room i spent a year in falling apart, i was there 88-89 1st section, we accomplished our mission and russia never invaded, although they left a pyramid of russian car batteries to let us know they stopped by
I was there 90-91, lived on zero deck until I got housing in roberts housing down by the fuel dock. This looks bad, but the compound video I just saw looks so nasty now
This was called the Bering Building and the area you are seeing is the Marine Barracks. There was also a movie theatre and a club located in this building. Sad to see it abandoned and vandalized
I was stationed here with thornstein same time frame, same flight in. He was in Rm 101, me in Rm 102. Nothing scary down that hall, trust me. Try going out to the site at Zeto Point at night. That place always creeped me out, even carrying an M-16 with 180 rnds. Always thought a Spetnazs commando was gonna come out of the sea and slit my throat. Thanks for sharing this!!!
Great memories. This is the Marine Barracks on Adak. The Commanding Officer's off and general office area, then the rooms of the Marines. Those floors used to be stripped and buffed in the morning and then the evening, every day. I was there in 1984/85. Thank you for the video.
I use to go under those building to smoke pot...lol...was there in 75

I was on Bering hill for a year in the early 70's. It's sad to see the place in such ruins. I was across the street in the Seabee barracks.
