Kind of bittersweet. The man at end says "3 days later, they dug me out", insinuating they were in a cave-in, and the dance studio was that guys personal paradise after death.

I've never really been a dancer myself, yet it's hard not to appreciate how well the dancing in this video seems to communicate the guys joy and fulfillment.

You are on the right track but slightly off. You are correct that one of the miners died but he isn't in heaven yet, he has to pass the trials before he can gain access. The female dancers are the angels and the judges are...well... judges like St Peter etc. They most likely chose an old school miner because generally speaking they have no dancing ability. He struggles at the start and then with the help of angels passes the audition, he then disappears in to the light :)

it's not. it's sampled from The Main Attraction's 1968 release "And now" - the name of the song is "Everyday" and the lyric is actually "Since I met you" not "Since I left you" - i'm not sure if they sampled it or had someone resing "left" instead of "met" - hell, even in the original you can kind of make it sound either way in your head. maybe he's singing "met" in the avalanches version too, and you just hear "left" coz that's the name of the song. :)
