Influenced by the emotive hardcore genre, yes, but being the emo genre itself? Not really, cause for mostly in those days lyrics were a part of a genre, but nowadays lyrics are much more free. Emo isn't the definition of being emotional, but people use it to rant and bitch about people who can write a sad song, typically in a song that has screaming or growling, and sounds quite awesome imo. They just don't have better insults. Rappers are just as emo when it comes to lyrics.

Okay well Silverstein is really good I have seen them twice warped tour and Bamboozle but.. "Emo" comes from "hardcore" which is a branch off of "punk" and what I mean to that is the instrumentals mostly (distortion) and the screaming the whole idea of sad songs has been around for generations and even if a "Emo" song isn't sad it's still got the name "hardcore or emo" attached to it because that's what it can be grouped by.
