Instead of bitching about which v. is better. How many ppl alive to perform it today? Let's just enjoy that the song is still being loved these many years later and by a Legend! LOL & EAT THAT!
one thing i looooove about john legend this 9-TIME GRAMMY WINNER! is that though he do covers, she makes the song HIS OWN. sure, you may say it could be better/worse than the originals. but for me, he makes the version soooo different to the extent that it is INCOMPARABLE TO THE ORIGINAL, yet still maintains the flavour/meaning of the song. thats john legend for me, a TRUE SOUL!!! :D
A nice version but the one on Donny Hathatway Live is superior. Willie Weeks on Bassm, Cornell Dupree on guitar and Donny on piano. Different and better, check that one out as well.
Great tune, fantastic arrangement, huge groove. I love the way this one slowly builds to the release, which just kills. Great performances by everyone. Little Ghetto Boy was also the highlight of their set at the Rally to Restore Sanity.
I love the singing part of the song...I guess because, growing up listening to Donny Hathaway, thats the way I know it and well, kinda wish they'd leave well enough alone and leave the rapping out...but hey, thats just my opinion....but it was good anyway...
@MyLifesPromise got to find a way for the younger audience to be drawn into a brilliant song. Unfortunately, today's young generation wouldn't listen to the song if it was done the way Donny did it, even though I think it's absolutely brilliant and I'm probably considered to be part of that younger generation. While I agree I like the beauty of the original version, this version makes it accessible to today's youth.
dope. that's all

@RemyHairBoutique FUCK YES!!! yes I am getting so many Marvin Gaye 1971 Whats Going On vibes.....holy shit RemyHairBoutique I love you for saying that
I love that album
John Legend is Gen X Marvin Gaye, in my opinion
Anyway. Can somebody tell me what the song is thats in the advertisements???? Where they're playing real fast and rugged, then slow to a smooth flow

Sensational! Real transcription, to remake, superadd & to bring up....after 35-40 years. FullHD on youtube, must be heard!!
Most of all, from 2:10 it makes one's flesh creep...& to conjure up Donny's mighty ghost!
RIP.
Peace out..

The live version sounds better than the CD version. (This is true for a couple other songs too, unfortunately.)
