  • LennyBound, thank you for the trouble of the upload. UCSD certainly has a gifted Neuroscientificpsychophilosophic faculty: Churchland, Ramachandran, and they also have Akiskal who, though less public, has been at the forefront of the study of effects of psychotropic drugs on neuropsychiatric, psychological, and behavioural processes. His research helped save my life. With the number of persons downing psychotropics like candy these fields of study will become more and more important.

  • nothing she says is absurd.

human thought and logic are products of the brain as it interacts with the environment.

    what is the problem?

do we need to posit a supernatural mind other than the brain in order for life to have meaning or persons to have depth?

  • @JAYDUBYAH29

I think the problem is that Churchland and other naturalist often end up saying that human thoughts and logic are equal to neurological processes. There is a difference between saying that human thought and logic are products of brain activity and saying that they are equal.

  • recognizing the progress of neuroscience and what it tells us takes nothing away from our humanity or the wonder of the natural world.... it also only deepens a spirituality that is about being in relationship to truth.

  • Could you clarify what you mean when you say "her view reduces human thought and logic to total absurdity"?

  • @LennyBound

This individual is simply revealing the limit of his/her intellect. Which may never the less be above his/her peers.

  • @ArtsyPhilosophyGuy That's nice. Perhaps you would like to offer an argument?

  • @ArtsyPhilosophyGuy to live is absurdity my friend...a self-proclaimed philosopher such as yourself should recognize that with relative ease

  • I have so much respect for this lady-

  • Meat can't reason? So how do you explain G.W. Bush?

  • W was a pile of meat and he couldn't reason. I don't see the contradiction.
