I just noticed Kermit isn't happy with the final punchline but then Don says he likes it. I wonder if Kermit was anticipating Don yelling at him again?
This classic clip makes me smile. Jim Henson was such a master. To make Kermit sneer at 2:03 was just a piece of comedic beauty. God rest your soul, Mr. Henson.
My little brother used to do that all the time. If he didn't get his way, or couldn't figure out the problem, he'd bang his head on the floor. Still tease him about being a Don Music protege`
The infamous Don Music, who is responsible for it's viewers imitating him by banging their head on the piano. As a result he was imediatley taken off the show.
i had my kids watch this, they rolled in laughter at how kermit changed the entire song. it's so amazing that i can share a part of my childhood with my own children and they loved it too as much as i did!
@Virchew Hey dont feel bad about that I am almost 40 and I do the same thing. Do you remember a cartoon called the shirt tales? I watch them all the time.
We moms just naturally get concerned when he bangs his head like that. The clip has always made me look up for a telephone book to find a name of a good psychologist for Mr. Music. Even when I was a child, i would think,
I loved this as a little girl, and I still do. I've always enjoyed the part where the Monotones come in to sing backup for Don. I still think this is the funniest of all the Don Music sketches.
I swear is it just me or does everytime he hit his head on the piano it takes him a little longer to get up? hes suicidal.... 3:16 - 3:25 I love how hes like "yes..?" like YOU JUST BANGED YOUR HEAD ON THE PIANO FOR THE LIKE 8th TIME does it not hurt?
This was one of my most memorable and favorite Sesame Street moments! I loved this sketch when I was a kid, and I love it now. :) It's just sooooo funny and genius! Only problem was that when I was young I imitated Don Music's headbanging on my family piano...and my Mom never realized why I did that until I told her just recently. ^___^
Wow, the same Children's Television Workshop that thought that Cookie Monster is a bad example by only eating cookies (changing his diet to veggies) is now putting up a clip that was taken off the air because it has a man bashing his skull into a piano. Real consistant guys.
Watching this thirty-odd years later, it seems ironic that Don had trouble with that sky/fly rhyme; Bert parodied the same nursery rhyme as "Mary had a little pigeon" last season, using the same rhyme but never naming the pigeon's color.
Kermit needs to sue. He's the one who really wrote that song. Don Music violated his intellectual property rights.

Let's face it, people. Jim Steinman he isn't. But it's still funny. His head-banging on the piano is a classic in itself.

Here's how my part of the skit that I made up goes.
Don Music: I need a word that rhymes with snow and something that lambs do.
Kermit: Gee, Don. I'd sure like to help you, but I have a dinner date with Miss Piggy, so I really should go.
Don Music: That's it! Go rhymes with snow! Oh, thank you!
Kermit: Anytime.
