the ones in the air and space in D.C. are BEAST you strap in and can go completely inverted and thers one pilot and one gunner but me and my friend just spent most of our time upsidedown with me shooting randomly and trying to convince my friend to stay upside down.... lol
Here is an idea for you to noodle around in your head. Window regulators on most cars today use a cable to move the window up and down. They operate off of 12 volts. Could you use a potentiameter on, say, the Cougar Stick and move the counterweights with the cable mounted to each end of the PVC? Just a thought. I am trying to think up ways for a system like this to work with the Cougar HOTAS system. The one on the MAACS looks like you have to manipulate the stick to manually move the weights.
@rogerdodgeraviation But for racing simulators this is good stuff. Please tell me how you made the helmet. I know you used trackIR but what did you use for the screen?
@lilbro209 We used a virtual reality headset. Please see my video "Virtual Reality Helmet for Flight Simulator" I would post a link, but I don't thing YouTube will allow a link in video comments.
@rogerdodgeraviation Found it! But I did some research and I have still not seen a VTR headset from these guys or anyone else I would consider to use for Sim Racing because like you said in one of your vids, I need to read the small print. In iRacing there is alt of small writing that gives you critical data! But some day I hope....
When the pilot moves the joystick forward and back, it move counterweights that tilt the platform. There is a joystick potentiometer on the joystick that tells the computer what position the joystick it in. There are a couple more MAACS videos in this series that show how the joystick/potentiometer works.
That would be friggin cool..Remember when VR originally came out? They were at shopping malls and you could hunt each other down to shoot each other. This would definately be far better..I'ld bet Matt's already thought and planned that out!!!
Yes, it can be anything. It's like any other PC flight simulator...except it moves, and has a virtual reality headset and stops traffic on 51st Street.
hmm, Bill is thinking "I didnt know this thing actually moved around", as it rolls down the driveway with him flying.

Its cool and all, but why not just spend all that time and money learning to fly in real life?

@velveetaslingshot I'm a Flight Instructor. Many of the people you see in our videos are also pilots.

yes my neighbors think i am a nerd, but i have all the fun!

You should some how hook that up to a flight video game. That would be awesome.
dragonbreathstinks 2 years ago
Yes, we did that. MAACS is a flight simulator.

nice work m8, ;) seen all the vids.
i only have one question.
how do you know where the buttons on the keyboard are when you are wearing the helmet?
WNxRadeon 2 years ago 3
Yes, you are right. That was a problem. We won't use virtual reality for the next moving flight simulator.

Does your controller allow for acceleration control? What is the sensor attached to the revolute axis ?

You should hook two of them up and then have a dogfight.

Glad you like it. We now have a webpage that shows how the helmet works. Click the "Virtual Reality Helmet" link on the DIY Flight Sims website.

Nice frame work! Did you move this manually by Stick? Like the original Joyrider?
Thanos
tronicgr 3 years ago
No, the Joyrider has levers and linkages that attach to the base. MAACS does not work that way.
rogerdodgeraviation 3 years ago
So its motorized then?
tronicgr 3 years ago
can it work on ww2 prop planes
