  • If I had to see a movie for the last time in my life it would be the Shawshank Redemption.

  • "Drove the Brits from the homeland" ???

What planet are you on, American?

You have overdosed on Big Macs.

  • Gerry Adams is a freedom fighter and besides St. Patrick, probably the best irishman in the world. Anyone with anything bad to say about Gerry Adams, Sinn Fein, or the IRA are stupid little cunts sniffers.

Long live Gerry Adams!! Praise the IRA!! Thank god he drove the brits from the homeland!!

  • adams what about bloody friday ?you scum bag ! you have blood on your hands you planned the whole thing, adams is a smart man he uses the media and propaganda. an evil wolf in sheeps clothing.(bloodt friday was when there was bombs all over belfast in 1 single day loads of women and children killed)

  • warnings were given the brits screwed them up

  • the patron snake of ireland

  • Adams is mentally unstable and has been holding a grudge for years. He doesn't want peace, never has.

  • You obviously dont know much about him, hes more mentally stable than you could ever be. If you lived in this country you would know that he is incredibly smart and he does want peace but the stupid british government always manages to prevent that.

  • UP THE REPUBLIC

  • Religion is one way that people from outside ireland saw the conflict. The conflict was about who should rule this part of ireland. Religon was only a way of telling who was on a certain side. And the other sides being the irish gov. and the british gov. , mi5, special branch (RUC) british secret services. and the paymasters of the loyalist death sqauds who sent them out to terrorise the nationalist people.

  • look im irish and im all for the I.R.A but i think u yanks are fucked 1 min u support them but the next when u get done on 11/09 you hate the i.r.a make your mind up

    tiocfaidh ar l'a

  • What the fuck does the I.R.A. and 9-11 have to do with each other? That was Al-Quaeida. The I.R.A. had nothing to do with 9-11 and nobody said they did. So what the fuck are you on about!

  • BLA BLA BLA LA im catholic and the I.R.A. shoy my brother in the kness

  • good enough the cunt:))))))))))))))))

  • I don't think you grasp the consequences of the relationship of religion in society. Yes, the responsibility lies with parents but only outside school hours. RC schools stem from the vaticans insistence in having them. The government isn't disregarding any responsibility at all. All that needs to happen is for religions to keep out of politics. This is what JF Kennedy wanted to happen; this is holding back progress and peace in Ireland. Shame you can't see this- its what need to be done.

  • For the majority of people under the age of 35religion is of no consequence. Most people of all ages don't heed what the church says in any way or form(from disregarding their views on contraception to ignoring confession). You are overstating the influence the church has on this society to try and link it with the problems this society faces. Those problems were not created by the church, but by the deliberate discrimination of nationalists by those who support British rule in Ireland.

  • You have read to many biased history books and downplayed the parts of history that go back hundreds of years to the problems. It is intolerance on a grand scale of your church and the bondage of that same religion that kept the native Irish in ignorence that has resulted in the way things stand today. I find it hard to believe that anyone with a poisonous video that you have can be sincere about having a fair peaceful solution to the problems. I WILL BE ON HOLIDAY FROM TOMORROW. GOODBYE.

  • Ha ha. The truth hurts. People in Ireland are far more aware of the real reasons behind the troubles. As I've stated before, it is the Ulster plantation and the subsequent discrimination, followed by 100 years of penal laws on the indigenous population of Ireland that is the origin of the problem. Religion is a side issue, but someone like you and your obsession and hatred of it can't seem to comprehend that basic fact.

  • If its of no consequence, why do most Roman Catholic parents in Scotland demand that there kids go to RC Schools, and get very annoyed if the subject is brought to their attention? Of course it is of consequence, who are you kidding on here? If the majority of people didn't bother with religion then they would welcome the removal of a religious school. Religion to a young child is another form of child abuse. I am not overstating anything, only getting to the nuts and bolts of sectarianism.

  • how is religion child abuse , dont u think ur being a little over the top there.

  • Adams' expressions during the Hurd clip are unintentionally hilarious.

  • Its very clever of Hurd to call the Troubles an Irish euphemism for terrorism. Of course, the British didn't exacerbate the situation by assasinating Catholic civil-rights lawyers and giving technical and tactical support to the UVF/UDA. How dare the Irish people defend themselves when the honorable British just wanted to share their good fortune, honest capitalism and democratic equality.

  • the honerable british you repherd to masscrees children, protected loyalists death squafs such as the shankill butchers, and were let loose on unarmed proetsters shooting them dead like animals in the streets, and now there in iraq massacreeing civilian villages.........................''HOnerable'' isent a word in the british dicitonary.

  • I think he was being sarcastic

  • oh yeah cos it was just the ira killing people.dont forget british troops gunning down catholic teenagers and loyalists butchering innocent catholics

  • It makes me sick when Adams speaks about civil rights or Rosa Parks. This guy sneered when his IRA chums murdered children and innocent women. He wants showbiz acclaim. Killing people for political gain is wrong and Adams is an advocate of this. He'll jump on any bandwagon that is going. Please wake up to this charlatan.

  • who will speak for the catholics in the north if not adams? the man has been neither charged nor indicted for any crime.

  • Fuck Northern Ireland

  • tiocfaidh ár lá

  • "Shawshank Rebellion"? *sigh* oh charlie stfu

  • "Shawshank Rebellion"? Even Charlie can't get the name straight...

  • Tim Robbins is a tit, Gerry Adams is a smart guy and his points are valid. I'm prostestant but the brits need to go back to britan and the people in the north know that the years of the descrimination they delt out will be comin home to roost, and thats why the dont want the english to leave. IF THERE WERE NO BRITISH SOLDIERS IN IRELAND THERE WOULD BE O NEED FOR I.R.A.SOLDIERS IN IRELAND

  • religion has nothing to do with it you sectarian basterd.

  • Your grasp of the topic is appalling. Instead of posting idiotic and ill informed comments on an internet site, I suggest you spend some time reading Irish history.

  • My grasp on the topic is spot on. It is the curse of Romanism forced on the Irish by an English pope that started the rot in Ireland. Without any kinds of religion there would be no division like there is today in society. Reading history not just on Ireland but in most of Europe Roman Catholcism is the worst offender of intolerance or bigotry.

  • Well read some more. It was the semi-successful Ulster plantation and the subsequent discrimination of the indigenous population which is the root of the problem in the 6 counties. The Pope you are on about is Adrian IV and his Laudabiliter. His papal bull was largely about money, and bringing Ireland under the control of the Roman church plus forcing Ireland to pay dues to the church. Its relevance to the conflict from 1969 to the GFA is non-existant.

  • Nothing like the discrimination of settlers in 1641, where irish, Spanish and French jesuits ordered native Irish to slaughter thousands of protestant settlers, many put there after escaping other countries in Europe via England by the atrocities of the Roman church, which as you know is at the seat of and influences irish politics. Ulster potestants dont want any part of a country controlled by a church that has discriminated against its people for hundreds of years.

  • Most if not all of those "settlers" aka Planters came from Scotland and England, not Europe, and they knew the risks they were taking when coming to Ireland. What did they expect, to be welcomed with open arms?? They came and were planted into land which had been in the rightful possession of the indigenous Irish for thousands of years. The Irish were left with 25% of the land that they had previously owned. Hence, the bloody 1641 rebellion led and directed by Phelim O'Neill, and not the church.

  • I'm afraid it is the church of Rome that does the directing. Because Ireland had been given to the English by Adrian IV, Queen Elizabeth was within her right to put in Protestant settlers, especially when Catholic Spain and France were a threat to England via Catholic Ireland - self preservation. And yes, they should have been accepted as many were homeless due to religious persecution. Just as Catholics coming to Scotland have been accepted and also allowed a sectarian education system.

  • She is only well within her rights if you believe that she should actually have ownership of Ireland, and not the Irish people. And no, I'm glad they were not accepted. I commend my ancestors for standing up for their birthright and their homeland and their culture, and fighting to end English rule in Ireland. Catholics have never been accepted in Scotland. Sectarianism is rampant, in particular in the west of Scotland.

  • Sectarianism is rampant in Scotland because the church of Rome insists on having a school for ROMAN CATHOLICS ONLY. There are no protstant schools only State schools where all religions can attend. It is the ignorance and intolerance of the Roman church in Scotland and Northern ireland that is at the core of sectarianism. I admire JF Kennedy for his speach on separating State and Religion, this angered the RC Church and the jesuits. Even he as a RC could see the danger of this to his country.

  • I think your true colurs have been shown. You are not Irish. The only other people that I have ever heard espouse views similar to yours have been Scottish protestants/presbyterians, in particular the rabid bigotted type found in the west of Scotland. Why is sectarianism not an issue in the 26 counties? By your logic it should be, as the vast majority of schools are run by the various churches.

  • It is not an issue in the 26 counties because intimidation by irish catholics over the years has seen almost a total decline in protestants, thus the polulation is almost 100% catholic. You show your true colours by having a disgusting IRA video declaring stuff your peace process. This shows that you don't want peace but just like 1641 genocide on the protestant population. The Scotti originally came from Northern Ireland which makes the Ulster Scot as indigenous as any so called Native Irish

  • You are a liar. In your initial comment you say you are an Irsih catholic, yet you are not. The Scotti originally came from Ireland. "Northern Ireland" has only existed since 1921. In your warped logic then all the people of Scotland are desecended from Irish people, as you make out all those planters from Scotland were originally descended from the Scotti. Utter nonsense. What I want is a united Ireland and the Brits out. If the planters decided to go home too, that would be a bonus.

  • That comment was tongue in cheek to irish 137 saying he was protestant. I did not say ALL were descended from irish, just a sizeable amount. I meant the area North of ireland. From your video you don't want a United Ireland, but an Ireland under Romanist rule, and if the so called planters don't leave you want them blown to bits, just like the 3,500 poor soles your beloved IRA killed off the back of getting equal rights. Shame on you all, how many mass cards will that be to get out of purgatory

  • I don't care about religion, unlike you. Where in any video I have as a favourite does it mention religion? You won't find any because they are not there. Where do I say I want planters blown to bits? You haven't a clue about Irish affairs and that is obvious. You should check the CAIN website for a breakdown on the cause of deaths during the most recent struggle and get your facts straight. You are just another Scottish Protestant bigot, blinded by your own hatred of Catholicism.

  • Oh you care all right about religion - don't lie. You don't say but you inmply by having an IRA video with guns semtex and bullets, if that's not to blow up your enemy what is? If the Irish Catholic planters in Scotland left, that would be a bonus for Scotland too. What you want is a Romanist ruled Ireland and you support a movement that will murder innocent men women and children to get your warped bigoted murderous views across. It is the protestant that is the real victim in Ireland.

  • What has the IRA got to do with religion. Where in any of its statements or publications does it give religion as a motive for doing anything. What is Romanist rule? Where does it exist? In your head? I am agnostic, so I don't care either way about any religion. The Catholics in Scotland are not planters. They are either indigenous Scots or descended from Irish immigrants. They were not planted there as part of plan to ethnically cleanse Scotland, unlike your protestant cousins in Ireland

  • The whole issue is based on religion. If the planters were Roman Catholic and were going to the chapel with the irish, they would have been left alone. Vatican rule is what runs the politics in Ireland and the Vatican is a political animal. I am a Deist and have no religious belief, however, as I said before, for peace to take place, church and state must be separate. What difference does it make whether they are planters or immigrants, they have to live where circumstances have forced them.

  • As I said before, it was the Irish that started ethnic cleanisng in 1641. It was the vatican that robbed the Irish of the early christian church. It is Roman Catholicism that is at the root of the troubles in Ireland. The IRA does not state religion as a motive but it kills for the Roman Catholic Irish, so don't be pedantic on your argument. The Scotti people were from the area of northern Ireland, so they can rightly claim to be from there. Do you agree to abolishing separate schools?

  • A Scottish person trying to lecture an Irish person on Irish history!! You couldn't make this up!

  • No I have not made this up, and you have avoided my question. If religion does not matter to you, do you agree then as an agnostic, the abolition of separatist Roman Catholic schools in Scotland and Northern Ireland? If the answer is yes then maybe you and your republican friends should ask your church to pull out of this bigoted separatist arragement and let children grow up together without unproven religious fairytales keeping them apart.

  • Seperate schooling does not breed sectarianism. If parents wish their children to be taught in a particular religious ethos whether its Catholicism, Protestantism, Islam, Judaism etc., they should be entitiled to. Prohibiting it would be counterproductive and breed resentment. If other parents wish their child to be taught in a secular enviroment they should also be accomodated. I personally don't care either way as I see it as a non issue.

  • Any Agnostic would not advocate any religion in schools never mind at all. Roman Catholic schools are paid for by the British taxpayer - why should I be taxed for something that excludes me? Prohibiting religion in schools would be the first step in eliminating religion, as dividing kids at a young age is the first step in the sectarian process. It is religion by its very nature that is resentful, each religion excludes any other by the content of its text. Religion must be separate from State.

  • Only prohibiting in schools. Children should be allowed to grow together. They can be taught religion at home and at their chosen church on a sunday or Saturday. It is only fairness, common sense and decency that all children should mingle together and be free from the chains of brain washing dogma and other supernatural and non-sensical illogical nonsense that all religions have a common denominator. The vatican does not want this situation, as it is a threat to the future of its business.

  • I agree with your view on religion as being illogical nonsense, but its all about freedom of choice and what parents want for their children. Responsibility for childrens education lies with their parents and if they choose to have them educated in a particular ethos, that is their perogative. Religous schools stem from governments disregarding their responsibilty in education and leaving it to the religous orders to fill the void.

  • your a joker, im a staunch atheist with a hatred for all religions and im a fully nationalist irishman.

in no way should the catholic church or any religious be associated with ireland. culture and religion are different things.

  • these 'settlers' as u call them coming to Ireland were no such thing, they were literally land thieves who still 10s of 1000s of acres of land of the native population in Ireland at the point of a gun.

  • Ireland is not in any way controlled by the catholic church, its increasingly secular

  • how can u possibly blame our church for sectarianism in Ireland? My God look at our history the penal laws, the orange order, theprotestant state for a protestant people, if anything the catholic church is to blame for not standing up enough for its flock in Ireland.

  • shut your mouth slovak

  • what did I say? are you a sociopath psycho with anger problems? I just wanted to know if this is a current story or if it passed. I dont understand why you get angry. I have found that only a religous person who claims to believe in god can say things so hateful lieke you "Shut your mouth slovak". You have to have one-on-one conversations with fairy tale gods to be so hateful

  • Does anyone know how current this video is? I am unfamiliar with the story and was curious if this cease-fire was something that came and went like 10 years ago, or if the video is current: implying the cease-fire continues to this day. Cheers

  • this vid is from '94 two years later the process broke down under loyalist killings + brtish delays with a massive bomb in canary wharf killing two and causing 0ne billion pounds of damage after a lot of work from all sides in 2005 the IRA destroyed its wepons in a move for peace loyalists moved there wepons from ordinary volenteers but didnt destroy them now all problems are being resolved politically whether norhtern ireland will join the republic in years to come is anyones guess

  • thank you ajh. why did people give me thumbs down? Was this a wrong question to ask, is it a sensitive topic? I simply wanted to learn about the issue, I didn't think asking this question would get such violent responses from obvious religious nuts like 'kmark' below me. I have found that in order to provide others with such violent responses almost requires some religion. I never see a physicist or mathematician (99% of whom are atheist) becoming violent with others like kmarky demonstrates

  • fuck it...im sick of waitin 4 the tim robbins bit...

    tiocfaidh ár lá

  • great video. Gerry Adams is a great man. Freedom for Northern Ireland.
