I'm so on the fence about this movie, most people I know who have seen it hate it with a passion but two of my friends believe its the best film of the year. I guess giving it a chance is the right thing to do.
I come back and watch this trailer every few weeks whenever I feel like I've lost hope in humanity, due to all the horrible things going on in the world. It lifts my spirits and enriches my soul. I can't explain it, but it does. I only wish that everyone could see it as I do, and feel the resonance in your own heart and in your own being. Never has a movie moved me so much. Terrence Malick has created more than a masterpiece. No movie, in my opinion, will ever reach this bar. It is not possible.
@fartmanx I LOVE THE WAY YOU HAVE CHOOSEN YOUR WORDS I CAN ALMOST FEEL WHAT YOU ARE SAYING & I HAVENT WATCHED IT YET . @fartmanx I agree wholeheartedly my friend. Not since The Fountain have I seen a movie that moved me and spoke to me like this one does. We need more films like this to uplift humanity and make them see the beauty all around them before they end up like the father, regretting their foolishness as they ignored the glory all around them.
best part of it was that my girlfriend and i, without talkign to eachother, both had to laugh through out the last 15 minutes. this movie is as spiritual as santa clause riding on a cokacola truck while molesting a unicorn. So overdone, so chliché and so meaningless and empty it really shocks me to the core that there are so many humans enjoying this. Hard to keep on hoping for the global evolution of our consciousness.

People saying they cried watching this move. WOW just wow. I can't even imagine that. This was one of the dumbest movies I've watched in a loooooong time.
@TheCanaris I am familiar with Terrence Malick, and I have seen The Thin Red Line (good movie). So what's your point? Malick is no Midas. In this film Malick's story telling is more convoluted than a Lars von Trier film. If I want to enjoy a good movie pertaining to existentialism I watched a master like Kurosawa at work, Ikiru. Besides Heidegger was a Nazi.
does anyone know which song from the soundtrack plays when he says "Some day we'll fall down and weep, and we'll understand it all, all things" i really wanna know D:
The most ostentatious movie I have ever seen. So much of it was unnecessary. Visually it was stunning and a joy to watch. I'm a fan of deeper meaning in films but this reached so hard that it unraveled trying to reach some profound meaning of the greater. While in its attempt to disclose universal secrets and truths it completely disregarded story telling and left you with a jumbled pile of shit. It wasn't even an issue of the story being linear or not; it was just too much bullshit.
@jambeeantz Have you seen The Thin Red Line? Or one of his earlier movies - like Badlands or Days of Heaven? This is Terrence Malick, a philosopher that translated some of Heidegger's works. OSTENTATIOUS?! This is just like saying a Prodigy record is too aggressive/loud...
truth is, it's unless you love and be loved back and THAT is the universe having mercy on a love that is dissed so you do not suffer too long.. a friend on facebook shared this and i am glad this looks wonderfulll !!!
@MrVIBEMAN So, because Sean Penn's in it, it's NOT an introspective movie with amazing scenery? Look, it's fine if you don't like Penn - I have problems with him, too - but honestly, you forget it's even him while you're watching it, AND he's not even in it a whole lot. Don't let it keep you from seeing it. It's truly a beautiful, amazing movie.
all u idiots below me, drop dead, you have no class, look at your language. your a disgrace. i amtheintrepid, the noobishgamer, zooncrazy, crowarc. so what you CHILDREN NEED TO LEARN WHAT CLASS IS!!!
I disliked this movie so much. There were no flying robots, countless explosions, or shitty dialogue and acting. This movie is way too over my head, my small brain can't comprehend deep meanings and the themes in the movie. Whatever, im going to go watch Transformers.
@boredtrophyhusbandI liked this movie so much. There were pretty pictures of nature, life, and the resolution was great. It made me feel very unique about myself, and could totally relate to the movie while nobody else could, because you know, everybody else is not as smart as I am. As a matter of fact, I had to explain it to the whole audience, because they're not smart either. I am smart. Very smart and i like to show it to people how special I am for having liked this movie
It is one of those precious films that should not be recommended for everyone to see; let me just say the the words, "open minded" are definitely something that this movie needs from those who see it. Terrence Malick tests and challenges his audience in ways that more directors need to do. He is truly a master of the arts when it comes to films.
Here is a slighly off-topic comment on Brad Pitt, who I agree is a top-notch actor.
When I saw the film "A River Runs Through It' directed and narrated by Robert Redford in 1992 --- the film that launched Brad Pitt's career --- he gave an excellent performance. However, the lead actor who played his older brother, an actor named Craig Sheffer, gave an astounding performance and I predicted that he would become a star. He didn't, Brad Pitt did. Go figure.
I have to say this- I applaud Malick (among other things) employing classical music in his films. The Wagner vorspiel and mozart in 'the new world' were used to great effect and already in this films previews I've heard 'the moldau' by smetana and 'le barricade mysterieuse" by couperin.
As far as I'm concerned, the greatest living director.
@waterhouse221 Have you actually seen Tree of Life? I kind of doubt it since people who usually give movies crap are usually the people who have never actually seen them, only basing their skewed opinion on premeditated emotions. I'm not saying that you can't have an opinion- you can think Brad Pitt is a terrible actor but if you're going to make such a harsh statement you should at least try to back it up. Also, make sure you spell things right. Spelling things wrong only makes you look worse.
Hunter McCracken who played young Jack is amazing. He should definitely be nominated for an Oscar. That kid told the whole story of Jack's youth through expression and body language. Very gifted young man.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I think they should change the title to, "Hey! It's Brad Pitt!"...or maybe "look at me! Brad Pitt"...or "Another Brad Pitt Movie"...or maybe just "Brad Pitt" followed by some glittery stars and stuff.
Why make a movie at all? Just prop a cardboard cut out up on a stage, hang "Brad Pitt" on the marquee and rake in the bucks! No production costs, no waisted time, no, Just Brad Pitt, 24-7!
Watching Brad Pitt try to act is like watching a train reck.
@waterhouse221 Are you fucking kidding me? Have you ever seen Fight Club? Inglorious Basterds? The Curious Case of Benjamin Button? Se7en? FIGHT CLUB? You're just one of those faggots who doesn't watch movies. All the stupid shit about Brad Pitt in magazines is sad, with him and Angelina Jolie, because it takes away the seriousness of his acting. He's one of the best actors of our time, and if you disagree, you're an idiot. P.S. I would pay to see a cardboard cutout of Brad Pitt.
@kjah11 no. I think this movie would be a lot more convincing without brad pitt and sean penn. But who knows. maybe this film will change the way we look at film forever
@TheBSxperience I actually quite liked Pitt in this movie but Sean Penn's character needed to be cut from the film as he didn't add anything of much substance to it.

Nice quote, but I think it flashes by anyway. However, I think that if you don't love the knowledge that it flashed by hurts a little bit more than it would otherwise.
I wish your post was a top comment on here. Very good comment, you have keen insight. Though it is a simple truth, you have put it into words. Great comment!
But seriously, it's an art. It's about the images, the emotions and the message more than story. It features a boy growing up with a somewhat abusive father in 50s Texas, but I don't think that's what it's really about.
"If you don't love, your life will flash by." Thank you Terrence Malick...for making me realize what the meaning of life is. :)

I don't want to watch a movie if there's nothing good to see or hear.

"Unless you love your life will flash by."

Great comment!

what the hell is this about?
xhmoobx 11 months ago
@xhmoobx Everything.
But seriously, it's an art. It's about the images, the emotions and the message more than story. It features a boy growing up with a somewhat abusive father in 50s Texas, but I don't think that's what it's really about.
