I've found the device doesn't seem to know the difference between a dead short and a light bulb filament. It had me running in all different directions along the wiring harness until I isolated various segments of the harness and removed all light bulbs from the suspect segment. Then I just wiggle tested that section of harness until the transmitter alert stopped. I love the Power Probe III kit that included this tool, but the short finder itself doesn't impress me.
ask your snap-on, cornwell, mac, matco dealer about them. there is a reason they sell for $200.00 plus. it works just like the video shows, trust me im around these tools all day long!
it sounds too good to be true..it should be tested in a real car and not a table with wires so people can get a sense of it...how come is not sold in auto parts store or at walmart....i can't find any review for this product...i want to buy something like this but i doubt this one really works.
I just bought one of these on Amazon for $90. The local auto shop I've used in the past, which is a part of a chain, doesn't have any tools of this sort for finding shorts or opens - WHAT??? I figured I'd take my chances and buy this device to find the open in a circuit I've identified instead of paying $92/hour with a 2-hour minimum for them to do the same thing I've done unsuccesfully at home with a multimeter.
