Great job Jeannie.... I think you do just as good as Willie if not better on this....You are another singer that didn't get the credit that you deserved. Awesome job on the steel Buddy!l Thank you for sharing this song. This is real country music.
The old music is so musch better, if you think about it these people sold records when most folks didn't have two nickiles to rub together but they would scrape up enough to buy a record
yeah if you judge music on how many hits an artist has in especially in todays screwed up country genre....youre losing out on the best artists....jeannies one of my all time favorites....i don't give a rat's ass where she charted....shes awesome...and willie nelson's version stinks and i know he wrote it....he should stick to smokin pot and writing...hes a great writer
How did this woman EVER get even "semi-famous"? Just a very, very average "singing in the shower" type voice that a zillion other people have. Certainly nothing special. Oh, I forgot, she married a famous songwriter back then ... I'm sure he's the one who got her a recording contract. Probably a very nice lady but very, very marginal talent.
@JJayFin No she got the contract herself, Hank Cochran gave her the song Don't touch me which she took to number 2 then they got married. She sounds great if she was such a bad singer how come she had hits.
@MyJustified Hits? She had ONE hit (Dont Touch Me) and it wasn't even a #1. She's never had a #1 recording. C'mon .. not like she ever had the career of a Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Lynn Anderson or Tammy Wynette. She had a very modest career as a country artist (in terms of chart action). She's mostly known as one of the Grand Ole Opry old timers.
@JJayFin Actually Can I Sleep In Your arms went to number 6, I'll love you more went to 10 and she had a duet with Jack Greene that went to number 2, alright I agree she did'nt burn up the charts, but how often do you ever see Loretta, Dolly or Lynn on the opry at least Jeannie is still Loyal to the show. And that term old timers is not fair to use those old timers are what made country music even though it's gone into complete melt down, Jeannie is way better than taylor swift.
Wake up and quit the crap you are putting out today and listen to this song and the delivery of it. It is first class and it is true country music done the way it should be done. Great Job Jeannie and the Big E....wonderful you still have a lot of C/W fans left in this world.......I just wish these Nashville Idiots would find other work.
Innovative use of his so-called "chromatic" strings in Buddy Emmon's solo, starting at 1:24. He actually invented that part of the standard pedal steel tuning that everyone uses.
And don't forget Jerry Byrd playing acoustic guitar, best non-pedal steel player ever, but I think by this time he was even playing pedal steel also. Jerry Whitehurst on piano and Jimmy "Spider" Wilson on guitar. Anybody know the bass player and drummer?
Buddy Emmons wow, he was playing stuff back then that even now in 2010 players cant do with the same taste and finesse ! There is a lack of adequate words that can portray Buddys mastery of the pedal steel guitar he will forever own the benchmark.
Jeanie with Buddy playing country doesn't get any better. As has been noted many times before many of the older country singers and players wouldn't have a chance today. We might as well accept it everything changes and not always for the better.
way better than the writers version....willie should have always just stuck to writing...ill never understand why so many people love willies music....hes horrible
the audio mix is so crappy on TV presentations. Instead of their big arrays of boards and such in the control room they ought to put the mixing engineer in a room with just a TV....no headphones...no big fancy speakers... and mix from that.
Jeannie is also a great songwriter having written one of the greatest songs in country music, "Leaving and Saying Goodbye" which was a huge hit for Faron Young and stands up 40 + years later as one of the best songs ever written. She should be in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Can't see the steelplayer on the Sho-Bud but the one playing the Emmons is Buddy Emmons . I don't think Paul Franklin was born when this was recorded .
What a nice video. I mean Buddy Emmons on pedal steel guitar and Jerry Byrd on rhythm guitar are on the same stage. Jerry was also a great steel guitar player. Of course I love Jeannie Seely a lot. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for putting this wonderful old song on. What's passed off as "country" nowadays is awful, I can't listen to the radio anymore.

This is a fantastic example of Country Music at its best. What passes for Country these days is good music, but it's not Country, in my humble opion.
