You don't know what you are talking about. The CIA, SS and NSA use these successfully to check their candidates for truthfulness. No, these techniques are not perfect, but they are not junk.
There is no way to know if the "The CIA, SS and NSA use these successfully" because none of these organizations (nor the local police who use them too) do any follow up investigations on the applicants to verify if the results of the tests are true. If there is anything the polygraph examiners don't like about the test results, the applicants are kicked out with no questions asked. It basically gives polygraph examiners total control of person's career prospects.

Until a machine is developed that can distinguish truth from lie with a near infallible 99.99% accuracy rating (or better), it shouldn't be accepted as trial evidence ... however, these machines may still be useful in *excluding* suspects ...

I have actually taken this lie detector test before. The whole thing is entirely based on voice stress analysis. But considering that it is some what impressive because it can detect if you are lying about things that no person would be nervous to lie about. Itt is ultimately flawed because any amount of nervousness by the person being interrogated is going to be interpreted by the machine as deception.

Are you a moron? The kid was told this machine was fool-proof, considering he was being interrogated for the murder of his sister and knowing that he was a suspect, the kid must have been under a ridiculous amount of stress. Therefore he was more than likely incredibly emotionally and psychologically drained and wasn't sure what was going on anymore. He just wanted to get out of there and that was the only way. Especially since the cops that were interrogating him were probably stupid as hell

You'd be surprised at the effectiveness of interrogation techniques. Spend a few hours in a room isolated from anyone but your questioners and you could find yourself admitting to things you wouldn't normally dream of. If you take a person who is completely unaware of their rights or the legal process and hammer them repeatedly with claims that the sentencing will he very harsh if they don't admit to the crime, and that they just want to help and can't do so unless the person confesses, (cont'd)

Interrogation is about finding a persons weaknesses and exploiting them. Stress, fatigue, hunger, intimidation - Give me twenty four hours in a room with you and I'd guarantee you'd be claiming you killed Kennedy. And you wouldn't have a mark on your body.

They used the lie detector on me... they asked me if the weather outside was sunny, to which I replied with "yes"... It was sunny the entire day, I didn't even see a single cloud in the sky... although they said I got the answer wrong..
That of course opened up a time paradox, which sucked the entire planet in and turned the day into a wet and snowy one...
