Trust me, If those zombies are stalking Ben and Barbara, no telling how many are stalking heavy populated areas, where electric and cable plants are at. So it is not really a huge flaw.

Im liking this remake so far, only complaint is Ben has too much to monologue about. I like the pace he told his story in the original. in this one he just keeps talking. This one gladly doesn't remind me of Obama, but hes less cool headed than the orginal to.

that is why u destry the staircase, so that no matter how many zombies get in, they cant get up because zombies can't climb (they try to in this movie but can't) and just stay up. If a rescue party did come, the zombies would go after them, but remember, when in a zombie situation ALWAYS assume that there won't be help coming and you defend yourselves
