  • 3000 years ago, im sure everything was highly populated except humans !! Especially seeing as how we destroy forests and build and level salt marshes which are important for the birth of many marine species ! Look at fisheries laws regarding Florida waterman, they are required to use nets with a 98 % bycatch rate, so you see, its not entirely the fishermans fault !!!

  • Interestingly, recent archaeological research suggest the oceans were considerably more rich prior to the introduction of net fishing 3000 years ago even compared to stock levels based on pre-industrial accounts.

  • i cant understand why we are surprised that fish will run out in 40 yrs i am surprised that it want be sooner . The planet can only go on with less people. what will be the population in 40 yrs ? the decrease can only get quicker in the coming yrs.

One problem is to make China and India richer the more they have the more they want the world cant carry on if these two countries come close to the way america wastes its resources . one way would be to stop buying the goods that they supply !

  • Not having seen this film, I do remember the PBS program Frontline did a rather disturbing documentary some ten years ago on the subject called "To the last fish." It was already concluded that people 'round the world will not stop raping the ocean until there are no more fish; technology is always improving the methods used to find fewer fish. And fishermen are buying this expensive sonar equipment that they might continue to profit. They do not concern theirselves with issues of extinction.
