Anyone know of any other videos of this trio specifically? I found another on here doing a ballad of sorts, just wondering if there are any others from this performance.
So many people stumble when they try to play fast, they aim for speed, lose control and mess up the "swing". These guys here fly at warp speed without breaking sweat, keeping it tight and jazzy all the time, you're left with the impression that they could speed up even further with no problems if they wanted to. Great music, awesome musicians, these old timers are second to none!
@bowflop hahah, you're right, damn, i had'nt noticed. He's still pretty short. Also, i had everyone going, apparently you're the first one to notice this, after 4 months.
This is pretty much perfection attained. That bassist is a fucking ROBOT!! I mean that in the best possible sense. This is one of those instances where the cover is as good ,if not better than the original.SRVs' version of Little Wing being the another. All superb musicians.
The bassist NEVER EVER sees what he is playing , thats VERY DIFICULT if we consider that double basses are fretless and he is performing an imposible solo. AMAZING :)
I've read in Miles autobiography that he actually wrote Donna Lee. Parker was the leader of the recording session so it turned on the LP with his name.
@MrBekson I would question that claim, Miles also said he wrote Blue n' Green which Bill Evans claimed he wrote.. Now if he did write Donna Lee, I don't see this type of writing style when he was a band leader. Whereas this definitely fits the Charlie Parker composing style to a T. Well, we'll never really know for sure. But it is a fantastic track.
Seriously. How in the world are we suppose to believe the fundamental building blocks of the universe came together to form minds so complex, and beautiful to create this.
If someone asked me how to jazz, I'd have to just show them this! the keyboard is technically amazing whilst remaining totally melodic and musically comprehensible, the bass is the same, and the drums are pretty much perfect as well. Bloody inspirational.
Really, play both songs at the same time, it's not hard to do, and it's so worth it. You'll appreciate this song so much more. I guarantee you will have an immediate mindblowing soundgasm.
My dad says that they're using "Back Home In Indiana" as their base song. Don't know if it's true or not but my Dad is rarely wrong. I'm listening to both songs at the same time though, and even though they are different lengths they mesh rather well. I'm using the Armstrong version also on youtube.
Excelente. Very nice.. Jazz tocado con todo respeto. El jazz, el futbol y el sexo.... son tres acciones de la vida que no se necesita hablar too much.. Just play please!!!...
@oriza2 Miles? That arrogant son of a bitch :) I lost respect for Miles a while back after Bitch's Brew and his funk years. And his spat with Wynton. I refuse to believe it. Bird was the bebop guy man!
Well, I hear a lot of soul in this. And I see it too. Don't you hear it? Not just orjazzmic moans and weird expressions are considered soul. They are in rather old ages. Saving up energy to play amazingly like they do! Great and enjoyable listening for me.
@crubutt sure as hell make you look inferior just think about that people in retirement homes can do things you probably have gone to sleep and dreamed about you lowlife shitface
@gingerbasser1975 Not sure why you are offended. when Mingus died, his widow gave his instrument to Aladar Pege - the guy on this vid. This means a lot for a double bass player, I guess.
Pege was a great talent in jazz and classical music. Saw him live many times. And what a gentle and humble person - a good techer too.
(By the way this song is Miles Davis composition. The credits wrongly went to Bird back than in 1954. According to Miles.)
