  • I like how his thumb stomps on the note at 3:55

  • Bravo...

  • Unfortunately Mr Pege already has died. He was an amazing bassist. God bless him!

  • @joskapista21 Damn, that really got me depressed. Just when I had the urge to look for more of his work. RIP.

  • pege aladar is the biggest boss of a gnome ive ever seen in my life.

  • Anyone know of any other videos of this trio specifically? I found another on here doing a ballad of sorts, just wondering if there are any others from this performance.

  • lol theyre all so quirky, they sound unbelievable though

  • 1:38 - 1:45 bassist thinks: "I wonder what's for dinner tonight..."

  • anyone in utah give bass lessons?

  • The bassist face at 00:31- priceless

  • Bass player is my new hero.

  • wow, bird got a lot lighter and switched axes after he died...

  • YES

    bravissimo

  • Absolutely amazing.... No other words... And the tempo is just perfect :)

Somethime too fast tempo simply ruin great solos.

  • So many people stumble when they try to play fast, they aim for speed, lose control and mess up the "swing". These guys here fly at warp speed without breaking sweat, keeping it tight and jazzy all the time, you're left with the impression that they could speed up even further with no problems if they wanted to. Great music, awesome musicians, these old timers are second to none!

  • after knowing all of Rush's, Yes's King Crimson's stuff verbatim... I listen to this and feel completely retarded.

  • Bloody marvelous !

  • csik is SICK!!!!

  • no words, i mean one word "pulchritude" !!

  • no words for how happy this music makes me feel :)

  • Also, it sounds like the bassist has a magnetic pickup.....it's really badass; I like the sound.

  • u can search 李棠娜 by 嚴爵

    sample from donna lee

  • BASS!? Who is that!?!?

  • @nobunagaxxx4946 Aladár Pege ... a genius!

  • 17 people are idiots

  • Son blancos!

  • I like how he goes into stride "Indiana" (changes Miles based Donna Lee off)

  • I love how Pége Aladar is just so short that he doesn't even use the extension to make the bass taller xD

Ok, if you don't play bass, you might not get how funny that is.

  • @toskoramone Extension..... you mean the endpin?

  • @kaeli8 yes, precisely. english is not my first language so i often don't know these musical terms except in my own language. thanks

  • @toskoramone He certainly makes up for his lack of height by the way he plays.

  • @toskoramone you're kidding!?

  • @toskoramone he was sitting.

and , yes, i am a bassist, it was pretty funny before i saw him stand up.

  • @bowflop hahah, you're right, damn, i had'nt noticed. He's still pretty short. Also, i had everyone going, apparently you're the first one to notice this, after 4 months.

  • 17 people deserved a stereotype.

  • the whole crowd was clapping in time...wtf

  • @hiphopsucks96 This video cannot be from America!!!

  • Muito Bom,Great!

  • Piano ! VERY good

  • Ya quisiera Yo tocar como Ese Gran Bajista. Mis respetos Señor Bajista!!!

  • This is pretty much perfection attained. That bassist is a fucking ROBOT!! I mean that in the best possible sense. This is one of those instances where the cover is as good ,if not better than the original.SRVs' version of Little Wing being the another. All superb musicians.

  • piano player seems to use some victor feldman's licks

  • Fantastic!

  • That was ridonkulous! I could hardly hear the pianist and drummer over the sound of how awesome the bassist was.

  • That was ridonkulous!

  • the bassist sounds like NHOP

  • @neocatalyst I think it is him!

  • I like how these three oldies are absolute elite musicians lol, the bassist in particular. That guy is not a hobbyist.

  • first time that i see drumer with chart

  • perfect fours....

  • The bassist NEVER EVER sees what he is playing , thats VERY DIFICULT if we consider that double basses are fretless and he is performing an imposible solo. AMAZING :)

  • @THSiKario Ray Charles NEVER EVER saw what he was playing either. :P

  • Really terrific performance.

  • Aí, gostei do coroa do baixo, com todo respeito é claro.....:)

  • I've read in Miles autobiography that he actually wrote Donna Lee. Parker was the leader of the recording session so it turned on the LP with his name.

  • @MrBekson I would question that claim, Miles also said he wrote Blue n' Green which Bill Evans claimed he wrote.. Now if he did write Donna Lee, I don't see this type of writing style when he was a band leader. Whereas this definitely fits the Charlie Parker composing style to a T. Well, we'll never really know for sure. But it is a fantastic track.

  • This is the finest version of donna lee in youtube

  • @fanqueen other than the original of course.

  • @fanqueen And pretty much anywhere, for all I know

  • @toskoramone thats what it seems

  • So god crying will not do it justice

  • it's fantastic, congratulations!!!!!

    very nice music!!!!!!!!

    where are you from?????

  • This is the most random shit in the universe!!

Seriously. How in the world are we suppose to believe the fundamental building blocks of the universe came together to form minds so complex, and beautiful to create this.

  • awsome!!!!!!!!!!

  • YES

  • perfect

  • Ez a beszed meg szep, szet szedik a hangszereket, magyarorszag buszkesegei es romak, the best version on youtube.

  • Grand Masters !!!

  • These guys are unbelievably licked in with one another. Sooo tight.

  • @willisdeadd yes.........tight and licked

  • hahaha 4:10 sounds like mario xD

these guys were a fantastic trio!!

  • Gus Csik...is sick !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • my music teacher at school has told me i have to learn this solo on guitar in two weeks......fuck

  • 17 people out there have their heads up their asses.

  • Pege is just out there!!!!

  • yhea aaa eeeee eso es todo

parece como el qurtet jazz asilos del condado jajajaja

    tocan muy chido eeee

  • This might be the best video on YouTube.

  • If someone asked me how to jazz, I'd have to just show them this! the keyboard is technically amazing whilst remaining totally melodic and musically comprehensible, the bass is the same, and the drums are pretty much perfect as well. Bloody inspirational.

  • Really, play both songs at the same time, it's not hard to do, and it's so worth it. You'll appreciate this song so much more. I guarantee you will have an immediate mindblowing soundgasm.

  • My dad says that they're using "Back Home In Indiana" as their base song. Don't know if it's true or not but my Dad is rarely wrong. I'm listening to both songs at the same time though, and even though they are different lengths they mesh rather well. I'm using the Armstrong version also on youtube.

  • Bassist is a MACHNE!

  • I just stumbled on this completely by accident. It's so utterly awesome I think my head is exploding. Good times

  • If I ever lose the ability to hear...I think I would kill myself...

  • nagyon jo......

  • human or not? this music is epic..... amazing musician

  • pege is like a god

  • Excelente. Very nice.. Jazz tocado con todo respeto. El jazz, el futbol y el sexo.... son tres acciones de la vida que no se necesita hablar too much.. Just play please!!!...

    Congratulations!!..

    Mono

  • The bassist's eyes must be as dry as a rock.

  • grandi!!!!!

  • incredible :D

  • someone forgot their sticks... :L

  • i known Dona Lee from Jaco. feel good!

  • @Erikure Parker all the way man! Jaco gots nothing on the innovators :)

  • when Mingus died, his widow gave his instrument to Aladar Pege - the guy on this vid. This means a lot for a double bass player, I guess.

Pege was a great talent in jazz and classical music. Saw him live many times. And what a gentle and humble person - a good techer too.

(By the way this song is Miles Davis composition. The credits wrongly went to Bird back than in 1954. According to Miles.)

  • @oriza2 Miles? That arrogant son of a bitch :) I lost respect for Miles a while back after Bitch's Brew and his funk years. And his spat with Wynton. I refuse to believe it. Bird was the bebop guy man!

  • No words for this....

  • Well, I hear a lot of soul in this. And I see it too. Don't you hear it? Not just orjazzmic moans and weird expressions are considered soul. They are in rather old ages. Saving up energy to play amazingly like they do! Great and enjoyable listening for me.

  • AWESOME!!!

  • You cant read that poker face

  • man that bass player is fantastic

  • @eduardobadra jes he is one of the best ever

  • @eduardobadra

    he was :(

  • Lol cant see the soul tho =/

  • @angmar11 "soul" is subjective, as we are just a bunch of particles, soul isn't even an actual thing.

  • Nathan,

Killer playing, you have great taste!

Here's another pianist I think you'll dig, Tete Montoliu doing Giant Steps, look up his version on YouTube.

  • so this is what old people do when theyre put in homes.

  • @crubutt sure as hell make you look inferior just think about that people in retirement homes can do things you probably have gone to sleep and dreamed about you lowlife shitface

  • @gingerbasser1975 Not sure why you are offended. I wouldnt be watching this video unless i had a liking for jazz and appreciated it, i just thought it was funny that they look like they are playing in an old peoples home. and they are old. Never did i mention anything about their talents. You should probably relax, a temper like yours will only land you in trouble. x

  • buenissisisisisisisisisissmo!!!!!!

  • I don't feel bad about a 7billion-people world if this is the result!

  • The Best!

  • Why don't people talk about something interesting like :the chromatic descending line the pianist uses to go from IMaj to VI7? Bet ya didn't notice as ur all to busy looking at where he comes from, planet earth u dicks.

  • Are They Russian?

  • @shadymage2 No, they are Hungarians!!!

  • @cicasimi hungarians and GIPSYS!!!!!!!!

  • @shadymage2 As you can see, the inscription is not russian, not cyrillic...

  • i didn't see the bassist blink his eyes..

    dude, he's a robot..! LOL

  • @scrEMOhoLic044 at 1:48 he blinks once. i suppose he doesnt want to get unmasked for what he really is.

  • @scrEMOhoLic044 es verdad, el bajista es un robot no pestañea Dx

  • @scrEMOhoLic044 A robot with a souuuuuul.

  • superb!!!!!

  • this is impossible on guitar at this speed (for me at least, but u gotta admit this is fast as hell right?)

  • @Kardz9 It is hard, not impossible though - check Bireli's version.

  • @Kardz9

If you think this is fast, check out Joe Pass & NHOP version live: breakneck pace! LOL

  • @wysiwyg248 I just watched it,yeah they move....

  • Wow. Incredible playing from all three. Brilliant stuff.

  • Pege Aladár egy fantasztikus bőgős! És jó kínzós etűdei vannak... :D

  • I just love the way that Mr. Pege is completely “stone-face” while he is making his fantastic solo, a little like Niels Henning Oersted Peterson (RIP)

Though my own path became funk and later fusion-jazz I still get this warm feeling when I’m listening to this kind of Jazz as it reminds me of Sunday morning in my parents’ house with lovely breakfast and Jazz on the radio :)

  • que buen tema

    excelente contrabajista

  • This is a great piece! Everyone is fantastic in this tune.

  • Swinging! Great keys.

  • That bass player is exactly what I aspire to be when I'm old.

  • Sublime et sympathique bassiste !!!

  • 1:20 "yeah, that's the spot right there, doo wap doo wap"

I came here from a Jaco link though, awesome bass. If this was in an elevator it'd only go one way, straight up.

  • Wow hats off to Aladár Pege, man he's amazing, brilliant solo and really nice walking bass!

  • CRAZILY GOOD !! FANTASTIC!!

  • ez!jazz-a javábol

  • the amount of talent... just amazing

  • that pianist needs to learn his scales.... hahaha! just kidding! the dude is a master!! must have taken years of memorizing scales/hand techniques to obtain that level of skill!

  • They are gypsy musicians from Hungary.

Unfortunately Aladár Pege and Géza Lakatos Pecek are has died.

  • I just can't get tired of watching this! Such amazing musicians!!! I wish they were here touring the US! I would be the FIRST in line! God bless you al!!!!!!!!!

  • Yeah! Hooray for Hungary!

  • Gusztav Csik is an AMAZING PIANIST!!!!!!!!! He reminds me of Johnny Guarneiri only better!!!!! I just LOVE this rendition of Donna Lee!!!!!!! And I even was able to find a Gusztav Csik record from Poland. Now all I have to do is hook up my old record player so I can hear it!!! Great music here!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!
