Hi Rick. Decided to go back and rewatch your old preparedness videos since you did the recent 2012 preparedness video. Something caught my eye in this video, however, that did not catch my eye before. The shelves behind you and to the side of you. Have you thought about putting a board in between each shelf to turn them two shelves? I noticed the cans are on the bottom but you have all this empty space above the cans. If you put a board(?) between each shelf you could use that empty space.
when people get word that you have food storage etc they automatically think your a 2012 nutter..i like to prep because its fun and in cause if i get snow'd in or there's power you know small emergencys like that because you don't want to go to the shop and there nothing to buy except the bare shelves...and i agree on the america and britain thing
from my point of veiw it seems you dont like the us? we are used to fighting for what we want and sometimes dying for it..and it is that attitude that hel[ped us beat england.
@farawayniceguy Not at all, I love my American friends, but it is interesting to compare how our different cultures shape our outlook on life differently
@farawayniceguy the guy didn't mean that in a bad way...everywhere is diffrent all area's do stuff diffrently..like in survival vids from america they all have guns in it mostly..in the UK vids we have knives and melee wepons mostly for protect us...like if shtf happened people in america would be grabbing the wepons first then the food&water...if brits had gun access like america we would do the same but we don't so it food&water first for us...
Continued from other post. Hope I did not rile you up. I live in tornado country so preparedness is part necessity and part hobby. As you put it the best prepping involves increasing knowledge. In the US there are several prepper mindsets. The majority are prepping for "just in case". In case of what is not important, as prepping for one is prepping for all. You have your survivalists planning for EOTW. Worst are the seperatists of all ilk, you can see my point on them.
People’s complacency in the UK angers me, most really dont believe that anything bad could happen to us here or they say that our government would sort it out in no time, ha! The results from the pandemic exercises held recently proved otherwise – our emergency services and preparations wouldn’t be able to contain the pandemic. So, all the top brass would run off to their island retreats until the pandemic burns itself out and the rest of us have to fend for ourselves.
Nice one Rick. I am in the UK and have found 'preparedness' has paid off for me a number of times: Mains water cut for 48hrs, Electricity cuts, Acute illness, Job loss, Heavy snow. I could have probably ventured out on some of these occasions but having extra provisions or some back up kit meant that I didn't need to.
@northernraider I suppose your right, but sometimes it takes an understated approach such as this chap to reach the "unschooled" if you will. A more virulent approach may put them off and they will never wake up. Just a thought.
No matter what the calamity we should all prepare to have food, water, medical resources, and communications at our fingertips. Whether you are preparing for earthquakes, weather changes, protest, radiation sickness, viral outbreak, solar flares, water contamination, tsunami, volcanoes, or the so called end of the world. Its not a US or UK issue. These are all worldly problems that can affect anyone anywhere so yes start preparing but pray for these things not to affect our lives.
I think you reflect the UK point of view very well having watched a number of your vlogs.
Generally people in the US have a greater exposure to environmental difficulties and so their preparations will be very different to ours.
You can plan for short term issues such as the petrol shortages following during the protests we had. and growing your own food is always cheaper and better for the environment.
But in the UK there's very little space to bug out to and too many people.
I know, and I also know just how switched on an inteligent you are, especially when in print, Your entitled to bark as well :o) I've seen the stuff you write which is normaly well thought out and drafted, I think I was expecting the same when the girls linked your posts to the ukpreppersorg YT thingy. You do have much to offer the UK community, but please with respect think about a tad of rerhersal :o)
@rickvanman northernraider meant britishpreppers (dot) freeforums (dot) org, a really good forum which i only just found myself with a lot of useful information on.
Hey thanks for this. I got drafted into this after my family got caught with our pants down by a weather phenomena that left us without power for weeks. It was a derecho but looked more like a hurricane. Stores were closed in our town and surrounding ones, not enough fuel to travel, roads blocked by downed trees, no water or food stored. My family suffered. I promised them from now on we'd be ready for whatever. You're teaching me. Thanks.
@jiwings Thanks for the great comments. It's always a shame that it usually takes a major, often unplesant wake-up call for most people to 'log-on' to the concept of basic preparedness.
No doubt we Americans love our guns. It's just part of our DNA. Does that make people in the UK uncomfortable? If you want to get a balanced look at US Preparedness check out Jack Spirko.
@justindpearson A lot of people in the UK would be uncomfortable around guns - I guess thats part of our DNA.
I hate to say it, but I guess there are some advantages to disarming an entire population; during a SHTF situation, getting shot is much less likely to happen in the UK, and one less thing to worry about.
Thanks for the link to Jack Spirko - I'll check him out.
@rickvanman I don't mean to be rude, but there is nothing genetic about being comfortable or uncomfortable around firearms, it's a cultural phenomenon. Secondly there's more data to prove that an armed nation is a safe nation than not, take Switzerland for example. Third; weapons of any sort act as an equalizer so that even a 240lb male can be challenged by a 120lb female.
You're right that there are trade offs, but I think an unarmed nation suffers worse.
@rickvanman though that may be true, in America we don't hand out guns, you have to be checked out. And, even in the UK, if people want to get guns they can. They have to do it illegally but it's quite obvious what they will do with their illegally obtained fire arms. I'd rather be surrounded by tons of people that I know are legally caring guns. I would feel safe because I know no one is going to try something if they know everyone around them is carrying a firearm.
@rickvanman There aren't any advantages to disarming the population because it isn't absolute. It just changes the number of guns owned by law abiding citizens like us, vs. the criminals / etc. that will own them regardless of the law. I cant justify it because it speaks of oppression by the state and it has happened in that part of the world in the past, with dire consequences. It's not paranoia to think the government doesn't deserve all the power / ability to defend and enforce their values.
@rickvanman I think you in the UK have been conditioned to fear guns. An armed citizenry is the only way to curb government extremeism. Look at the Olympics as an example. Children will not be able to go see any shooting event becasue the Lord Mayor of London is afraid the children will become upset. Your own shooting sports competitors can not practice in their own country. England has a violent crime rate now that far our strips the US. Your gun crime has also jumped up.
Brilliant video, and I am of exactly the same opinion. When you see how fragile society actually is, then being able to be self-sufficient seems a sensible insurance policy to have. If I could make one small observation, you seem to have 'all your eggs in one basket' there fella. Noticed that you have similair items stocked together. Probably better having 'modules' mixed items on each shelf in case of water/fire damage ect... Brilliant video though mate....
@USNERDOC Welcome back & thanks for the re-sub ;o) I agree - change is coming - but change doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing - I guess it's up to Humanity in which direction we steer. - or is that me just being unreasonably over-optimistic? :o)
Radical?! I don't feel radical. I just consider gun steel as another precious metal to put my soon-to-be inflated Federal Reserve Notes into! Ha! Rick, I do like your approach. And thank you, thank you for joining me and the other 2 people on the planet who will actually admit that we took Y2K seriously!
Rick, i'm a British ex pat living int the US. Good vids you have got, but I must say there are a number of places in the UK that are perfect bug out locations including national forests, islands and mountain ranges.
I had my first miner brush with the possible downfall of society when i was 12 and on vacation in orlando florida when hurricane charley hit. we had no water or electricity for over a week and the only food we had was stored in a freezer and that all went bad in just over a day. food was entirely off the shelves and gas stations were backed up for miles with people trying to get generator fuel. I decided in that event that preparedness is crucial and i would take it seriously. Great video! :)
We think this man makes a valuable contribution to humankind with this information.
The reason that many groups do not come forward is that bulk buying in groups in the USA carries its dangers. People's distribution points have been raided and confiscated by Federal Gov folks. This has made major media a few times. Now the USA passed a very dangerous and nebulous Law S510. This will make it possible to arrest citizens who exchange food with others, profit or not.
I'm an American and I am part of a very large group of people who are preparing to survive adversity. Some of the people in this group have put videos out on You Tube so we can send these to others more easily. We help people to overcome addiction to the postmodern lifestyle of being cared for by others. You will notice that most people who put out videos on You Tube do not reveal that they are a part of any group preparing together.
so yeah, I'm prepared to go to supermarket and have a fight for the last bottle of water, that'd be so awesome! :D but that is not exactly what they mean by 'preparedness' :p
Ya if it's the end of the world, a year's supply of food ain't gona help! LOL! But fall of society doesn't automatically mean the end of the world either! My family is saving a little food, but mostly we've been learning how to do everything the old way. That way no matter what happens we can provide for ourselves.
@LadyMoonfyre814 that's exactly the attitude I'm running with too. Am trying to wean myself away from the dependence on electricity and going 'manual' on everything. Our great grandparents did OK without power, so it's not impossible to achieve for those with the right mindset.
Your comment about the Y2K bug hit a chord with me. The thing about the worlds response to the imminent and very real threat that Y2K presented, addressing the problem with proper prevention and proactive measures has in some respect lulled the world into a false sense of security. It is like the good boy who called wolf. When the towns folk arrived and scared off the danger does not mean that it was wasted effort, inaction may have resulted in great loss.
I agree, it's more about emergency preparedness than apocalyptic. From massive floods and storms, to fires from gas main breaks and accidents, when you are ordered to evacuate it is always better to be prepared to quickly grab what you've already organized than waste time trying to figure out what to grab. If the TEOTWAWKI should happen, we can freak out like everyone else. But, should the emergency be only localized and not global, I'd rather be prepared, especially mentally prepared. Thx.
of some sort of disaster happining more than any one that i know , shit is getting pretty crazy over here and every body that i try to get to think about what it would be like if some sort of disaster happened just try to tell me that it will never happen , i think people are just scared of it they just dont want to think about it
@cwbeasy1987 Thanks for the great comments - Sounds like you've got things in hand. Be cautious about trying to convince others though - most are too 'locked in' to the control system to be 'unplugged' so-to-speak. Prepare quietly and be cautious who you tell about your plans because when the time comes, they will remember.
good job on the video man , hopfully it will help some to under stand the reality of needing to prepare for any kind of disaster , ... i live in the u.s.a. , and you commented on how we have plenty of woods to go to and be away from people , that is exactly my way of thinking , i just bought a piece of land on a huge lake in the middle of no where just incase something happened so i can take my wife and kid some where safe to live off of the land , i am only 23 and under stand the reality of
At last someone else in the uk getting to grips with emergency preparedness, all my family and friends think im crazy for doing it. My hometown was flooded and it was amazing how quickly things broke down, loss of electricity, phone, mobile, access in and out of the city impossible, supermarkets closing and looting. On another occasion the water mains was hit during roadworks and bottled water ran out very quickly as did the bowsers that were sited at the ends of the roads.
It's good to see someone think about preparedness outside the US. I'm watching a lot of American videos, and there are "preppers" I like, but I'm in Germany and the situation here is obviously quite different, more like in the UK, I think. Actually our government recommend every household have two weeks worth of food and other basics (about the only sensible thing they ever spouted...), but hardly anyone knows about it, and if you try talking to someone about it, the find it ridiculous..
Hey Rick, I've seen all these videos before, but just thought I go back again through some of your archive :) Just to say, it's good to know you're prepared, if anything happens I'll know where to come... haha!
It's an interesting topic though and I should probably take it more seriously.
I'm loving your videos (wandered in from gardening and hydroponics), everything about the preparedness makes sense, especially storing all the knowledge you can do in your head - costs nothing, makes all the difference if a 'situation' arises.
This Talhaamed22 character needs to look around at his own country before he disparages either individuals who advocate and practice preparedness. Then he needs to look at who is sending the aid to those stricken by flooding in his own country this very week before he continues bitching about wealthy nations and industrialism. It isn't the Western nations who are allowing the internal governmental corruption the holds Pakistan down.
its great to see that you are prepared with out completely going nuts about it. i plan to start stocking up too. nothing crazy, just in case. its better to have and not need than need and not have. if the shit hits the fan, you will be in a good position to help yourself and others. if nothing happens, that just means you won't have to do any grocery shopping for a very long time and won't have to worry about inflating food prices.
Surely, you wont live forever.... if you want to lead a carefree life, dont pay attention to preparedness and survivalist's propaganda. No matter how well you prepare, you cant escape death ! can you? What if air stops blowing? You guys should admit your defeat against Nature. Its all human errors that has infuriated Nature, our greed of making walth caused us to build industries - that spoiled our envoirnment (climate change).. Using atomic tech for power is a good example
@talhaahmed22 "preparedness and survivalist's propaganda"?? - had to laugh at that one. Most of these guys are trying to uncover the truths behind the propaganda machine peddled by our governments and wake people up from the sleep 90% of the masses are still in.
Man made climate change? - sorry to hear you are still one of the 90%
Look, there is no doubt that this world will come to an end, no matter which ideology you espouse -- science or religion or etc. But the current crisis (wars, climate, economy) we are facing is the handiwork of humans. We nurtured lawlessness, greed, cruelty, selfishness, lust for power, etc. this is why we produce atomic weapons and to make matters worse we have used it once (Japan).
@talhaahmed22 Your heart is in the right place, but your frustration is aimed in the wrong direction. There people of this planet don't want wars, nor do they lust for power, or want to build nukes, you've just been trained to believe that by "the system" that has educated you.Your govenment has always been controlled by hidden elitists who do not represent your or my wishes, they have their own long-term agenda that we are powerless to stop unless more people wake up 2 what they are doing.
Didn't all the wealthy nations build industries in order to excel and suppress the poor nations? the world went through the phase of idustrialisation that certainly caused climate change --- And the biggest behind all this was greed and lust for power, desire for suppressing other nations. See sudan, somalia, uganda etc, people there are treated as animals. Nature does get furious over such insensitive attitude of humans. US govt may be good for its citizens, but not for sudan
@talhaahmed22 I'm not going to be able to wake you up to the truth in a short YT message. Your opinions and beliefs are formed based on where you get your information from. If that's from mainstream sources like TV news, then you will have been programmed to defend "The System" vehemently and believe everything you are told.Tune in to the Alex Jones radio show. He's quite sensationalist on some things, but he's a good source of information that might open your eyes to whats really happening.
I have just finished watching your Preparedness Series. Very practical and sensible advice in my opinion. I think some people are missing the point of these videos and preparedness in general. Why is it that nobody would think twice before taking out insurance for their home or car, which can costs thousands, yet they think its "crazy" to spend a couple of hundred pounds every 5 years or so and can be fully insured, so to speak, in the event of a disaster or other unforseen event. Great Work.
if something did happen and law and order broke down i would certainly want to own a gun , there are plenty of bad guys who would have them for sure . i think our gun laws are daft we should have the right to defend ourselves ,i have been tryng to get a shotgun liscence for six months now and if i cant get one then i will get an ilegal fire arm and hide it , im not getting killed for lack of shooting back
@kingfisher44 Might just be better and faster and safer to get one on the black market. If you have a Lic. for a gun then they know you have one and will take it away in bad times.
Great video mate, just out of curiosity and also coming from an American, are you upset that you essentially can't own firearms in the UK. While I don't think I'm an extremist over here, I do believe a firearm or two is pretty paramount to being prepared. Interested to hear what you think.
@Sin526 Hi - glad you like the vid. There are very few guns here compated to the US, - which means people generally don't get shot in the UK - I imagine in a SHTF situation, that makes it a slightly safer place to be, and one less thing to worry about when walking the streets - or am i just being naive?
I believe that both the UK and America are heading down the same road. About 2-3 generations ago, we both had an almost homogenous population in each country. Now each nation is being overrun by people wholly ignorant of our past heritages and in large part, hostile to the native citizens. It is one thing to practice survivalism among your neighbors; it's another to do the same in the grasp of your enemies. This complicates the preparation. Still, you are doing right.
@joesphx19 Thanks for the comment, yes I'm starting to feel a bit like how the native americans must have felt when they were driven off their native lands by the newcomers all those years ago.
Rick at the time the American Indian was the finest light calvary in the world. They really did not lose battles or land until the Europeans drove them further into confined, hostile areas. This was accomplished by sheer numbers in opposition. We need to take this lesson at heart. I consider myself of European origin, something to be proud of. However, I will not concede my ultimate loss in a grave situation. That is key to survival, the desire to continue on. Good luck.
I am not a nut by any means even though I am american, but. Being prepared just for any inconvience is a life saver. Whether that be by taking a rain coat and rain pants to work in your backpack that you always have with you up to getting a carry concealed permit for protection and the exploitation of your 2nd amendment right. Have fun cause you only live once ! - Awesome video : D
I can completely understand your thinking. Where is our colective feeling of impending problems coming from? Has any one read / seen 'The Stand'? It is very important that you continue to make these films. Thank you.
@linksysrouted I doubt that very much. I am not one of those gung ho Americans who think our poo doesn't stink...I know it does very badly. I am looking to move elsewhere. There is still NOTHING wrong with guns...that was the point of my comment.
As an American, I think your video is very informative, rational and sensible. Almost every video on survival and preparedness on YT is created by very extreme Americans. It's almost crazy. They show up on videos with every bit of weaponry and ammo they own and massive stockpiles of food and water and you can't help but think these folks have lost their minds. Thanks for being rational and informative. When the end really comes there is nothing anyone on this earth will be able to do about it.
most of us americans are more in tune to societal collapse, the reason why we have a armory of firearms and ammo is because we want to be able to defend ourselves more effectively.
nice to see brits awaken to are coming problems witch will be sooner than 2012 with great changes to earths . a pole shift is on the cards i dont no if england can sirvive such change i am to a sirvivalist , i no you dont see yourself as a sirvivlist but fact is you are brother , i wish you & your loveones all the best , Best regards BB

Interestingly, the case you mentioned about Truck Driver's Strike also happened in Portugal some months ago. The difference is that the trucks blocked highways and not petrol stations.
Thank you for an informative video. I beg to differ with you as far as folks in the US preparing for the EOTWAWKI. What the majority of us are preparing for is the collapse of our Government, due to Greed and Apathy towards it's citizens. Like yourself, we are preparing to get through hard times that we believe are inevitable. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to future videos!
I dont know how to explain this but i have also felt the deep need to be prepared. Disaster natural and economic are allways knocking at the door. Asio are also there thermal imager to eye wtf is there problem ?
as for the US having a focus on weapons it really depends on the person we have our own reasons for stockpiling weapons. One reason is weaponry is just very important to survival and independent living regardless who you are or where you live. You need to hunt and defend yourself from people wanting to raid your stockpile of food and supplies. That is what happens during chaos, you dont watch the news but im sure you at least saw a little of what happened during hurricane katrina with raiding.
i dont agree with the US preparing for end of the world..that is just the evangelical christians which UK has as well. Majority of american suvivialists are actually people that just want to live independently from big companies like electric companies for example. Our big problem here is all the energy crisis, we lose power a lot, which causes people to want to be prepared for when it does happen (which is often in a lot of areas).
Our governments are preparing for "something", that's enough incentive for me to do the same. you are right for not focusing on TEOTWAKI. The British are totally screwed if it came down to defending themselves from selective culling, or government crack downs, or worse. Americans accept the fact that some day we may have to fight for our freedoms again. this is just one scenario of many, and just like our government, we try to prepare for anything that may disrupt civilized continuity.
great vid. i store all my shit in plastic totes instead of shelving. much easier to move if ya have to. also wont get too scattered in the event of earthquake
Since you Brits lived through the Blitz in WWII it's surprising to someone on the other side of the pond that you would call preparedness an "alien thing". You still have people alive who experienced war on your own homes while the "Yanks" haven't had a bomb dropped on their homes by an invading army since 1865. With all the wars in Europe's history it seems that preparation for hard times would be a natural.
Good luck and God bless in getting yourself and your people prepared.
I live in a rather bucolic region of Texas, and just wanted to comment. You have it much more figured out on the preparedness issue than at least 90% of people that I know, and I know that more populated areas will be even less prepared! Most people I have tried to discuss preparedness with have acted as though I were mad!We do like our guns and ammo around here though, lol.
I've now given up talking to others about it or trying to sway people into thinking about preparedness, It's just a continuous battle all the way, and I'm fed up of being made to feel like a crazy nutter. People are too eager to shoot you down in flames and tell you that you are wrong.
Nowadays I just prepare quietly, and lead by example hoping others will get the idea before its too late.
i live in the usa and i have the same aproch to my survivalism. but i also have lots of guns and ammo, but that comes from my other hobbie is guns and reloading and im glad i still can have them. i hear that u.k. is trying to restrict knive also. is that true? if so to what ends.
Definitely a good series man. I've been getting into this kind of stuff a lot more lately, and it's really interesting and good to have a fresh perspective from across the puddle. I'm sorry to say, but you're when you say you guys are hosed if it ever comes down to the end of the world or anything like that, but I doubt it will. Thanks for the perspective.
Too bad you lost your guns in the UK, tragic really, especially since Islamization is destroying your country. Preparedness requires self-defense and self-preservation and that means food, water, medical supplies, guns, ammo, gold and silver.
@TheSilverHolder Lost our guns? We never really had them! But as far as Islamifacation is concerned.....we truly are the surrender-monkeys of Europe! (And where I live, we see nothing of this!!) Yet! Don't forget, thoug: Islam, is the religion of PEACE (not!)
Really loving your videos on preparing - you are a wise man, and i totally agree with your gut feelings. I was just wondering if you are also a gold/silver bug?? Do you invest in precious metals to protect wealth? If you do, that would make another great topic for your series. Keep them coming and best wishes from Scotland.
Thanks for the comment - yes I have invested in Silver quite heavily in the past couple of months - but only because my savings account is paying 0.008% interest!
Figured it was worth speculating on as many sources point towards silver rising in value. Plus silver is a pretty stable currency. Hope to make a video on it in the not too distant future.
that is so strange that you said it was your instinct because that is how it has been for me in these last few weeks. I am flying around like a mad woman to try and get things done for my family. I feel like an idiot because I am the only one doing it but something inside my stomach tells me I am running out of time. I do not panic very easily, infact I was told to become more urgency minded..hahah...Ok ..I wish I knew how much time I had left...sound weird huh.
Some day in the future the oil is going to stop flowing out of the middle east. Nothing lasts forever. It could stop tomorrow if Iran develops nuclear weapons. Everything in our lives is based on the free flow of oil. All most all of our products are created with oil. All of our transportation is based upon oil. All of our food comes to us via oil combustion. Oil is the foundation of our lives. It's going to stop coming one of these days. Are you ready?
It's so true. Today countries have a very thin line between total chaos and total prosperity. Is important to stay alert. If the end pf the world come one day, trues me no one will be prepared. That is why is call Armageddon XD. Anyway awesome Vlog. I give you 5/5 ☺☺☺☺☺
Preparedness or paranoia? Maybe a bit of both, I agree society is very fragile. But isn't that ALMOST over the top? Or are you strictly doing it because you feel you should be ready a little bit if the power goes out for 2 days or something
I know I could most likely survive in the Canadian Wilderness for 3 days with nothing besides a hatchet and some clothes, oh maybe a lighter would be nice too.
But still i have to be prepared a little to have all that with me. Some of the things I see behind you are almost unnecessary. Like how many rolls of paper towels do you need? Or do you keep the ones you use day to day in there?
There is a golden rule to stocking - stock what you use, and use what you stock. Nothing goes unused. Nothing here is unnecessary.
Headding for the wilderness if you live in Canada is an option for you, but on this tiny island, groaning under the weight of all the people living here, bugging out is not a viable option.
"Bugging in", is pretty much the order of the day, so we have to stock accordingly.
It's really nice to have an extra supply of toilet paper when the elctricity has been shut off for weeks during a New England winter. Nothing wrong with stocking up on paper towels and toilet paper...unless you want to use a leaf or your finger.
In the winter time in the New England states of America....sometimes the power can be down for 6 weeks. You should be prepared. We are all dependent on oil, the electrical grid, and the flow of goods by modern transportation. Do you remember Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans?
there's no way you're a nutter rick. the petrol strikes taught me a lesson too.
i always have backup food, water, fuel heating and power now. imagine if it wasn't just a short fuel strike? imagine if we had to survive for a month or more, most of the country would break down and it'd be chaos.
don't be afraid to make more videos like this, i really like it plus it is useful information!
It's quiet nice video you've done. I love those sound efects between cuts. I'm still learning how to compose video and to be honest most of my transitions are crap. Sound efect between cuts is fantastic idea. About preparedness: It might be quiet difficult in the large cities where we are rather very depnding on energy supplies. In case of blackout we can't even wash our back propely, because even gas boiler won't ignite without electricity.
I believe here in the states there is only a very small percentage of people who are truly prepared for even a minor interruption of services let alone a large scale disaster. I think people in rural areas are only slightly more self-reliant than people in metropolitan areas. Why learn how to skin a rabbit when KFC is just down the street? Our total dependency on others to satisfy our every need has put us in a very precarious situation should disaster strike.
As we speak, more and more people are beginging to wake up to the idea that our current system of existence is more fragile than we think. The internet has had a lot to do with that. But we must also all be guarded about allowing ourselves to get too drawn in to the paranoia of conspiriacy theories which are rife on the internet, and are easy to get swept up in.
Taking the moderate path I think is the best approach.
The media went overboard on Y2K. This is different and real and a certain thing. And they are quiet. They will say everything is going great when we all know it isn't.
Some people think we have only a few weeks left before things go crazy. Some say at least 2 years. I think the new Ukraine plague has lots to do with it as well as the collapse of the dollar....dashed with a bit of new one world government.
There will always be people who think the end is just around the corner. Be wary of those who peddle any such beliefs as "the truth". The future always remains unpredictable and no man can can predict it for certain.
Make sensible provisions for you and your family quietly, and don't forget to live life as you do so.
Keep one foot placed firmly in reality, while you contemplate and prepare for 'possibility'.
They taught me that in cub scouts "be prepared" they said. Seriously though we ARE very fragile. For example if everyone on the planet emptied their bank accounts within say a period of a month the house of cards that is "The World" would collapse. There would be anarchy, death, destruction, hysteria.
Yeah, I feel something is coming too. I do not watch tv much anymore but I do watch videos on youtube. Maybe because information flows so fast these days its hard to keep up with whats going on and that leaves people a feeling of impending doom. Or that we are exposed to more information and every loon can give their opinions about conspiracies and NWO etc.
I agree. With such a free-flow of information, it's really important to be guarded about getting swept along by fantastic conspiriacy theories and people trying to peddle stories of impending doom.
It's always useful to bear in mind that anyone can take virtually any information or circumstance and twist it to fit their agenda.
at first i thot you were going loony rick, but i thot about what you said, and your right, in the US its completely different. we are gun' upsesed. but i get your point, sense i live in Florida it would acshly be a great idea if we did that, because when the hurricanes come stuff can be closed for mounts. ok well i hope to see more of your vids soon!
LOL - Hi Colin. Yes I was reluctant to put this up for a while because of the potential "Nutter" comments. But there again, I believe in what I am saying. As long as I allow common sense to prevail, this can only be a good thing.
I think Noah must have had the same issues when he started work on the ark (and i'm not even religious!) :o)

So, all the top brass would run off to their island retreats until the pandemic burns itself out and the rest of us have to fend for ourselves.
ukprepare 7 months ago
Nice one Rick. I am in the UK and have found 'preparedness' has paid off for me a number of times: Mains water cut for 48hrs, Electricity cuts, Acute illness, Job loss, Heavy snow. I could have probably ventured out on some of these occasions but having extra provisions or some back up kit meant that I didn't need to.

These are all worldly problems that can affect anyone anywhere so yes start preparing but pray for these things not to affect our lives.

rickvanman 10 months ago
I think you reflect the UK point of view very well having watched a number of your vlogs.
Generally people in the US have a greater exposure to environmental difficulties and so their preparations will be very different to ours.
You can plan for short term issues such as the petrol shortages following during the protests we had. and growing your own food is always cheaper and better for the environment.
But in the UK there's very little space to bug out to and too many people.

Thanks.

No doubt we Americans love our guns. It's just part of our DNA. Does that make people in the UK uncomfortable? If you want to get a balanced look at US Preparedness check out Jack Spirko.
justindpearson 11 months ago
@justindpearson A lot of people in the UK would be uncomfortable around guns - I guess thats part of our DNA.
I hate to say it, but I guess there are some advantages to disarming an entire population; during a SHTF situation, getting shot is much less likely to happen in the UK, and one less thing to worry about.
Thanks for the link to Jack Spirko - I'll check him out.
rickvanman 11 months ago
@rickvanman I don't mean to be rude, but there is nothing genetic about being comfortable or uncomfortable around firearms, it's a cultural phenomenon. Secondly there's more data to prove that an armed nation is a safe nation than not, take Switzerland for example. Third; weapons of any sort act as an equalizer so that even a 240lb male can be challenged by a 120lb female.
You're right that there are trade offs, but I think an unarmed nation suffers worse.
PS: decent video, keep it up.
mrzeroten 11 months ago
@rickvanman though that may be true, in America we don't hand out guns, you have to be checked out. And, even in the UK, if people want to get guns they can. They have to do it illegally but it's quite obvious what they will do with their illegally obtained fire arms. I'd rather be surrounded by tons of people that I know are legally caring guns. I would feel safe because I know no one is going to try something if they know everyone around them is carrying a firearm.
iiFataIity 7 months ago
@rickvanman There aren't any advantages to disarming the population because it isn't absolute. It just changes the number of guns owned by law abiding citizens like us, vs. the criminals / etc. that will own them regardless of the law. I cant justify it because it speaks of oppression by the state and it has happened in that part of the world in the past, with dire consequences. It's not paranoia to think the government doesn't deserve all the power / ability to defend and enforce their values.
Stormyism 6 months ago
@rickvanman I think you in the UK have been conditioned to fear guns. An armed citizenry is the only way to curb government extremeism. Look at the Olympics as an example. Children will not be able to go see any shooting event becasue the Lord Mayor of London is afraid the children will become upset. Your own shooting sports competitors can not practice in their own country. England has a violent crime rate now that far our strips the US. Your gun crime has also jumped up.

Probably better having 'modules' mixed items on each shelf in case of water/fire damage ect... Brilliant video though mate....

Some of the people in this group have put videos out on You Tube so we can send these to others more easily. You will notice that most people who put out videos on You Tube do not reveal that they are a part of any group preparing together.

Don't mock prevention when it succeeds

I agree, it's more about emergency preparedness than apocalyptic. From massive floods and storms, to fires from gas main breaks and accidents, when you are ordered to evacuate it is always better to be prepared to quickly grab what you've already organized than waste time trying to figure out what to grab. If the TEOTWAWKI should happen, we can freak out like everyone else. But, should the emergency be only localized and not global, I'd rather be prepared, especially mentally prepared. Thx.

Consider the Katadyn Survivor. It's the only water filter on the market that can pump fresh water from sea water OR recycle water from urine.

This Talhaamed22 character needs to look around at his own country before he disparages either individuals who advocate and practice preparedness. Then he needs to look at who is sending the aid to those stricken by flooding in his own country this very week before he continues bitching about wealthy nations and industrialism. Look, there is no doubt that this world will come to an end, no matter which ideology you espouse -- science or religion or etc. But the current crisis (wars, climate, economy) we are facing is the handiwork of humans. We nurtured lawlessness, greed, cruelty, selfishness, lust for power, etc. this is why we produce atomic weapons and to make matters worse we have used it once (Japan).
talhaahmed22 1 year ago
@talhaahmed22 Your heart is in the right place, but your frustration is aimed in the wrong direction. There people of this planet don't want wars, nor do they lust for power, or want to build nukes, you've just been trained to believe that by "the system" that has educated you.Your govenment has always been controlled by hidden elitists who do not represent your or my wishes, they have their own long-term agenda that we are powerless to stop unless more people wake up 2 what they are doing.
rickvanman 1 year ago

Didn't all the wealthy nations build industries in order to excel and suppress the poor nations? the world went through the phase of idustrialisation that certainly caused climate change --- And the biggest behind all this was greed and lust for power, desire for suppressing other nations. See sudan, somalia, uganda etc, people there are treated as animals. Nature does get furious over such insensitive attitude of humans. US govt may be good for its citizens, but not for sudan

Why is it that nobody would think twice before taking out insurance for their home or car, which can costs thousands, yet they think its "crazy" to spend a couple of hundred pounds every 5 years or so and can be fully insured, so to speak, in the event of a disaster or other unforseen event. Great Work.

@Sin526 Hi - glad you like the vid. There are very few guns here compated to the US, - which means people generally don't get shot in the UK - I imagine in a SHTF situation, that makes it a slightly safer place to be, and one less thing to worry about when walking the streets - or am i just being naive?
rickvanman 1 year ago
@rickvanman
Still, you are doing right.
joesphx19 1 year ago

Being prepared just for any inconvience is a life saver. as for the US having a focus on weapons it really depends on the person we have our own reasons for stockpiling weapons. One reason is weaponry is just very important to survival and independent living regardless who you are or where you live. You need to hunt and defend yourself from people wanting to raid your stockpile of food and supplies. That is what happens during chaos, you dont watch the news but im sure you at least saw a little of what happened during hurricane katrina with raiding.
lavelliINC 1 year ago
i dont agree with the US preparing for end of the world..that is just the evangelical christians which UK has as well. Majority of american suvivialists are actually people that just want to live independently from big companies like electric companies for example. Our big problem here is all the energy crisis, we lose power a lot, which causes people to want to be prepared for when it does happen (which is often in a lot of areas).
lavelliINC 1 year ago
Our governments are preparing for "something", that's enough incentive for me to do the same. you are right for not focusing on TEOTWAKI. The British are totally screwed if it came down to defending themselves from selective culling, or government crack downs, or worse. Americans accept the fact that some day we may have to fight for our freedoms again. this is just one scenario of many, and just like our government, we try to prepare for anything that may disrupt civilized continuity.

Thats a good idea - i wish totes were cheaper here in the UK - then I would do the same.

Yes, unfortunately, the Dunkirk spirit has been all but lost to 3 generations worth of apathy.

QuentinCallaghan 1 year ago
Thanks for the vote of confidence :o)

Thanks for the perspective.
orangetart4762 2 years ago
Too bad you lost your guns in the UK, tragic really, especially since Islamization is destroying your country. Preparedness requires self-defense and self-preservation and that means food, water, medical supplies, guns, ammo, gold and silver.
TheSilverHolder 2 years ago 3
I guess on the plus side, there are fewer guns out there for the bad guys to use too.
rickvanman 2 years ago
i seen in your country that guns are easily had by criminals. your food and gear is theirs if they know you have it.
mechanicalbu11 2 years ago
Dont count on it...
RUCKSACK292 2 years ago
@TheSilverHolder Lost our guns? We never really had them! But as far as Islamifacation is concerned.....we truly are the surrender-monkeys of Europe! (And where I live, we see nothing of this!!) Yet! Don't forget, thoug: Islam, is the religion of PEACE (not!)

Hi Rick,
Really loving your videos on preparing - you are a wise man, and i totally agree with your gut feelings. I was just wondering if you are also a gold/silver bug?? Do you invest in precious metals to protect wealth? If you do, that would make another great topic for your series. Keep them coming and best wishes from Scotland.
ski2014 2 years ago

Hey Rick,are you losing weight?
thejesters1975 2 years ago
Preparedness or paranoia? Maybe a bit of both, I agree society is very fragile. But isn't that ALMOST over the top? Or are you strictly doing it because you feel you should be ready a little bit if the power goes out for 2 days or something
tacticalnudge 2 years ago
Prepared, yes. Paranoia? No. One has to be delusional to be paranoid, and I don't think it's delusional to prepare for the unexpected.
How much is over the top? Is there such a thing as too much preperation?
Difficult to judge when nobody knows what the need will be until it arrives, after which time your existence depends on the preps you have made.
I try to be moderate, but in my book, logic dictates the more preps you make, the better, and the more people you are able to help.
rickvanman 2 years ago
Well i guess that's fair,
Gotta always follow the 6P's: Priorr Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance
I know I could most likely survive in the Canadian Wilderness for 3 days with nothing besides a hatchet and some clothes, oh maybe a lighter would be nice too.
But still i have to be prepared a little to have all that with me. Some of the things I see behind you are almost unnecessary. Like how many rolls of paper towels do you need? Or do you keep the ones you use day to day in there?
tacticalnudge 2 years ago
There is a golden rule to stocking - stock what you use, and use what you stock. Nothing goes unused. Nothing here is unnecessary.
Headding for the wilderness if you live in Canada is an option for you, but on this tiny island, groaning under the weight of all the people living here, bugging out is not a viable option.
"Bugging in", is pretty much the order of the day, so we have to stock accordingly.
rickvanman 2 years ago
It's really nice to have an extra supply of toilet paper when the elctricity has been shut off for weeks during a New England winter. Nothing wrong with stocking up on paper towels and toilet paper...unless you want to use a leaf or your finger.
johnny102marvin 2 years ago
In the winter time in the New England states of America....sometimes the power can be down for 6 weeks. You should be prepared. We are all dependent on oil, the electrical grid, and the flow of goods by modern transportation. Do you remember Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans?
johnny102marvin 2 years ago
Hmm, I think I should start preparing - where I live here in Canada, I am a long ways away from any store.

there's no way you're a nutter rick. the petrol strikes taught me a lesson too.
i always have backup food, water, fuel heating and power now. imagine if it wasn't just a short fuel strike? imagine if we had to survive for a month or more, most of the country would break down and it'd be chaos.
don't be afraid to make more videos like this, i really like it plus it is useful information!

Hi Rick,
It's quiet nice video you've done.
Nice one Rick !
All the best.

FenderGibsonWashburn 2 years ago
As we speak, more and more people are beginging to wake up to the idea that our current system of existence is more fragile than we think. The internet has had a lot to do with that. But we must also all be guarded about allowing ourselves to get too drawn in to the paranoia of conspiriacy theories which are rife on the internet, and are easy to get swept up in.
Taking the moderate path I think is the best approach.

fear of apocalypse in America by anything above 20% is completely false, most are
prepaired for a hostle take over (attempt )
by an over populated ignorant country thats why us self sufficient types build bunkers and stock 5 years or more worth
of ammo suply, and most reload themselves or know someone who does
so with the way all the third world governments are going, i believe we are not acting radical enough......
digzie1 2 years ago
go to nothing toxic,or file cabi and search cut off head to see how these third world
ppl fight,no mercy! they cut off heads
with a little rusty pocket knife, and that
is real life , i hope it dont come to that
but look around dont fear just be prepaired know how to feild dress a
deer,butcher your own cow,and grow
vegetables,you may never need it,,,,,,
but what if you do?
also store and purify water

Some people think we have only a few weeks left before things go crazy. Some say at least 2 years. I think the new Ukraine plague has lots to do with it as well as the collapse of the dollar....dashed with a bit of new one world government.
Thanks for helping people.
1776Reborn 2 years ago

MrAmazingHumanist 2 years ago 2
So true. Our current perception of our safe and secure society is just an illusion. House of cards is a great description!
rickvanman 2 years ago
but rick, people have guns over here, famers for instant and people over here would still get weapons :/
reeceevans1 2 years ago
True, but nowhere near the scale that the US have them.
The number of guns on British streets is still statistically very low per head of population.
I don't have statistics, but I suspect you are more likely to get hit by a train than shot in the UK.
rickvanman 2 years ago
Yeah, I feel something is coming too. I do not watch tv much anymore but I do watch videos on youtube. Maybe because information flows so fast these days its hard to keep up with whats going on and that leaves people a feeling of impending doom. Or that we are exposed to more information and every loon can give their opinions about conspiracies and NWO etc.
troglodyte3344 2 years ago 2
I agree. With such a free-flow of information, it's really important to be guarded about getting swept along by fantastic conspiriacy theories and people trying to peddle stories of impending doom.
It's always useful to bear in mind that anyone can take virtually any information or circumstance and twist it to fit their agenda.
rickvanman 2 years ago
at first i thot you were going loony rick, but i thot about what you said, and your right, in the US its completely different. we are gun' upsesed. but i get your point, sense i live in Florida it would acshly be a great idea if we did that, because when the hurricanes come stuff can be closed for mounts. ok well i hope to see more of your vids soon!
