I think one of the most disturbing elements of this economic domination of Iraq by foreign parties is that it leaves the Iraq relatively impotent to control its own resources. Also, it demonstrates that oil companies have gained so much political power that they have become major players in shaping U.S. imperial policies. This has a damaging effect not only within the political forum, but also upon the energy market because it will inhibit or delay the development of new technologies.
