In the original recipe there's no alcohol. Tiramisu origin is claimed by two Italian regions: Veneto and Tuscany. In both cases, the Sicilian Marsala is out of the question. One thing for sure tho...you have to split the sugar in half, one part gets beaten with the yolks, the rest with the whites. Tiramisu needs the fluffiness from them in the raw recipe. Of course, things change if you go for the cooked version.
I dont understand, You did not cook the yolk to a sabi and then add the Mascarponi. Not cooking the egg yolk adds an element of samonella to the mix really. I always make sabi with the egg yolk before I add the Mascarponi. Other then that this is a sweet recipe. Thanks! very simple Just want to add one thing Grated Dark chocolate on top you can never have enough Chocolate.
@salgalla- I first tasted Gordon's in an Italian cafe, and made a complete pig of myself. The owners rapped on about it being an old recipe from their Nonna- however, once I made GR's version, I knew immediately where I'd tasted it before!!! I just had to tell the GR website!
Nice work, we liked your video very much so we embedded it on ChefCommons . com w/ link back and reference to Youtube. (Let us know if you don't wish for it to be featured)
You can get them from most big super markets and in most specialized grocery stores. They are usually in the import section of the store where you get the more exotic products. Expect paying around 5$ a pack. You should have enough with one. Cheers.
You can experiment with other kinds of biscuits, but ideally the ladyfingers are the best. I tried once with "langues de chat" (sorry, I don't know the english name) but it was very different, good, but different, less fluffy and more sweet. Good luck trying other ingredients. Cheers
If they don't have the funds for an espresso machine, why would they have the money to go halfway across the world to eat dessert?
Unless you're just insulting their food, in which case, why don't you come over here so I can slap you? I'm sick of Europeans insulting every damned thing people eat that doesn't come straight from their own country.
why do you want to slap me? I didn't insult anybody, I 've just invited you to come to Italy for have some fun and eat some delicious food. see you in 2010 at the World football cup...bye
I've seen enough Europeans burst into the comments berating people for "not cooking food the REAL way" that I made an unfair assumption about your intent based on overwhelming previous experience. Sorry about that, it was unfair to you.
you can use coffee rum which is what I used, it's the strongest coffee you get. but dont dip it in for anymore than 1 sec on each side cause it will absobe heaps and make you almost drunk with all the sponge fingers and lots of rum
lady fingers?! what a funny name to give to the SAVOIARDI!! anyway, this recipe is really similar to the original. use moca coffee instead and add a tablespoon of marsala in it. add the beaten whites in the mixture too. CIAO!
I hate coffee so I will make this with chocolate milk. An italian mom of a child I used to teach to once brought kid-friendly teramisu to school, I believe she used chocolate milk instead of coffee. I will try this!
I'm so pleased to see you fellows making more videos! I missed you over the holiday season. This is, as usual, terrific to watch. You both could totally work an off-the-cuff sort of casual after-work cooking show on Food Network. Thanks as always for your vids.
Well, That's a tough one... Tiramisu is after all a coffee based desert recipe and I have a hard time picturing anything else to replace it. You could maybe try strong dark chocolate milk but I have never tried it. Let me know if you do and how it turns out. Cheers.

There are about as many tiramisu reciepes out there as there are kitchens :-) Mine has half of the eggwhite beaten and put into the composition. And the liquor (amaretto in my case) is put also in there, not into the bisquits. And the dipping technique is the right way, *never* pour the coffee over the ladyfingers.
