Here in Algeria lots of people are still driving 30 year old Renault 18s and Renault 4s, yet in the UK they crush a 9 year old vehicle just because the owner hadn't insured it. Mate, police go about doing things the wrong way all the time. Half of them dont have proper qualifications. They are thick as pig shit which is why half of them choose this career path. It is actually very hard to get into the police force and you need qualifications.

Such an appalling waste of MODERN cars. Here in Algeria lots of people are still driving 30 year old Renault 18s and Renault 4s, yet in the UK they crush a 9 year old vehicle just because the owner hadn't insured it. CRUSHING a complete car always annoys me - they could at least break it for parts and make it useful for other people.
And during the height of the economic recession (when this was uploaded), they're still doing this.

@AlgerianBanjo So i suppose they should crush older cars only? surely if they did, and not crush newer more modern vehicles, then illegal drivers would just drive modern cars because theres a chance to get it back? If they crush an old renault 4, people will laugh, if they crushed a half decent, good condition vehicle worth a bit of money, people will think twice.
And some vehicles are broken for parts or auctioned on.

Yes, but who ever said that government was smart and did rational things. Just like the cash for clunkers here in the US. All the cars that were traded in HAD to be destroyed, they wouldn't even strip the car of useful things like engine, trans, etc. But look who made the program, government. There were a lot of cars that were in good condition but the government wanted them destroyed because they didn't get good gas mileage. Thank Government!

@AgentGTO They board up slightly-crappy looking houses for being slightly-crappy-looking (not even in horrible condition), and they say to the residents "oh this is unsafe, we have to PROTECT you, go outside". well if homeless shelters are full like they are in many large cities this means "go freeze to death".
Now some people say the city gov. "has a right to do that because it makes their neighborhood look bad". I can defeat that argument easy w/ "it always looks worse after its abandoned"

@AgentGTO So if they KNOW they don't have the money or the resources to knock down the abandoned house, then why don't they just put up with these slightly-crappy-looking-but-not-extremely-hideoushouses and just knock down the extremely-crappy-looking houses and ones that pose an actual serious physical danger? I mean, what is the actual REASON, since they end up making the house (and thus the neighborhood) look crappier? If all the tenants can afford is a $50 apt let them get their moneys worth

Lots of people are fine living in one-room apartments, there's no reason to force them to freeze to death, and if you aren't one of those people who "care about poor people" that's fine, just don't make special laws designed to kill them and call it a "hands off" "no big government" "free enterprise" country. Socialism against the rich or socialism against the poor is still socialism.
