This is used to point out the difference between trombones and other instruments. They are SUPPOSED to not tongue when they slur. That is the meaning of a slur. And its SUPPOSED to be swung. In fact, swing is half of jazz music. I am a girl in high school who plays trumpet/trombone, and I know my jazz music.
@coolcatz5656 Well actually.. Glissing and slurring are two completely different things. Trombones are always supposed to tongue (except when marked with a gliss) even when it's slurred but just extremely lightly.
does anyone have a arrangement for this song? i love the way they jazzed the song and the harmonizing they do through the song. The arrangements i've found are more concert like
@trash266001 Doubt you'll find it written anywhere. I guess you'll have to transcribe the notes yourself (not an impossible task) or learn the parts by ear. Alternatively you could write your own arrangement, but it's hard to imagine improving on this one.
tvcollector71, thank you. From the bottom of my heart. You have opened my eyes to what music really is all about. Having fun while making it! :D so once again, thanks!
I played this for my school ensemble contest, and I thought we did well. That was until I heard this. I mean not to say we were bad it 's just that compared to this our style seemed so off. ~__~
One of the few clean slurs I've heard. Quite the masters.
I myself play trombone. Love this version... they juuuuuust don't make players like they used to. I think its funny they totally the conductor as well. Trombones take charge, not your crap ;]

Good musicians can gliss on any instrument. The group of bassoonists I heard played it perfectly, every gliss included. The bassoon has a much prettier sound than the trombone, at least -I- think.
whoa.... i don't think i've heard this rendition. Only the band version. I like this a lot. The harmony really gives it a cool feel. Thanks for posting!
amazing!

Beautiful harmony, but I do NOT like how they don't tongue during the melody. Just sounds sloppy.

Written by Henry Filmore actually

The trombones in our group are really bad. They don't even practice at home or do good on tests all they do is just talk during class for an easy A.

Alright, Molassas trombone! Good god I played this music so many times in the bands in Germany!! The Germans loved it.

Love the solo. Looks like he's poking out his tongue @ the camera. That's why I love the songs with heaps of slide movement.

BRAVO!
If I could have played my trombone half this good I would have been happy.
I have played that song as a solo but it sounds great in a trio too!
I could hear this version 100 times and still not get sick of it.

They sound pretty darn good but swinging this tune! Wow, I have played it about 100 X's!

Yeah, this version is cool, but I like it MUCH better played by a bassoon ensemble.
HighCaliberFlame 2 years ago
but how can you do the glissandos on the bassoon? Doesn't that sort of just defeat the purpose of it?

@Kaymorve
These men all died before this video ever went up. two of them before youtube or google ever existed.
I guess this video wins the internets, but these men never even knew of the internets.
