Thomas Paine did not envision this... More than half of the federal government’s budget is spent on entitlements and safety nets. In fact, a fifth of federal spending is devoted to making sure we have crummy retirement savings that no one can live on.
Half the budget is spent on the military. Billions of dollars could be raised by increasing taxes on the filthy rich. Who the hell wants to gamble their retirement pension with Wall Street when they have screwed everything up?
@petersz98 The top 1% pays 55% of the taxes.... How much more do they need to pay? I am certainly NOT in that group, but I am tired of people saying taxing them more is the answer..... The problem is unemployment and getting jobs created!
The top 1% have had a 300% increase in income over the last 30 years whilst the 99% have got a 4% increase despite a 50% increase in productivity. So the 1% can afford a 300% increase in taxes. You must be some kind of dumbass if you don't understand the math!
@petersz98 Wow calling names is your best responce? All I am saying is the top one percent ALREADY pay 55% of the tax revenue. Sure they can afford more, but when is it enough? You want them to pay 75%, 80%, 100% Then all you will have done is force them move to a more tax friendly country. A lot of people are tireds of this he has some and I want some of his attitude. Maybe go out and buoild something instead of complaining about others.
Why not make the millionaires and billionaires pay much more tax? Most are just lazy greedy people who inherited their money or made it from wheeling and dealing. These filthy rich greedy people already keep most of their money in Swiss bank accounts or the Cayman islands anyway. They should be imprisoned if they evade taxes and fined.
@petersz98 That is a pretty broad brush you are painting with, "most are lazy greedy people who inherited their money" That is like saying "most poor people are lazy greedy people who want handouts" BOTH of those statements are flase, I am aware of that are you? Also if they evade taxes they ARE imprisoned ask Wesley Snipes, Tom Coughlin, Pete Rose and Annie Liebovitz. The fact remains that the richest Americans pay the most in taxes, and now people are demanding that they pay more
Outstanding. Thanks for the info on Thomas Paine! As a Christian, I loved the mention of Matthew 25, & of "the ME society" vs. the "WE society". I also loved that you pointed out that the Occupy movements are demonstrating the "WE" society by offering free books, free healthcare, & free food. The word "kingdom" for the type of society advocated by conservatives is appropriate & I can't help but think how contrary that is to the Kingdom of God, in which the first shall be last & the last, 1st.

Try debating with Molyneux or Kokesh about Libertarian philosophy, Mr. Hartmann. I'd love to see where it goes.
