Hosting a website is a full-time job, and I wouldn't say it's so bad for someone to wanna let people donate on the site. If no one did, he wouldn't be thanking anyone. The forums have been a home to me and many others for years on end. They are still the most reliable and friendliest forums I've ever been on. It's one of those things that, no matter how many new people come in, the community and family-centric aspect are all still there. It's to show he cares.

If you run a site like mine or a business in general you know how much money it takes. What costs money? The basic running and maintenance of the site + hardware costs; like camera/camcorder equipment, software and so on. The amount of donation support I get doesn't even come close to all these costs, but it does help :)
