If you listen to any of slick rick's famous songs/albums, you'll see that most lyrics have been used by many artists and his songs have been sampled by many artists. I think it's wrong to attack a rapper for sampling because nearly every beat used in hip hop contains a sample.
He's not a very good rapper at all. He produces radio friendly ear candy but drops in just enough "thug" lyrics to be considered street credible. He's completely fake with his made up image. You could make one of these videos for any rapper. Rap music is all about borrowing, sampling and putting your own spin on things. Rap music is built on samples from other songs. This is even more of an issue with Jay because hes always been known for relying heavily on other peoples talents...His masterpiece album Reasonable Doubt is very heavy on sampling other rapper´s voices (D´Evils, Dead Presidents) and has one to many guest appearances for a debut album...

I tried to like Jay Z literally. It was hard. I can't stand his voice at all despite his lyrics (which aren't that great either). Eventually, I just decided not to listen to him. Funny thing is that people would try to go out of their way to get me to like him (and other newer artists like Game and Lil Wayne).
