Seem like very few ppl know anything about bass. A good bassist that respects what he does will learn to play with his fingers , because it gives him much more diversity to his sound. Listen to some Funk/Jazz/Soul and u will realize why. Playing with a pick is NOT BAD AT ALL, in fact it can push your sound spectrum even further. Shavo uses both pick and fingers to play. He is a great bassist and one of my top 5 favorite bassists(actually he is the reason i started playing bass)!!!!

I don't think fingers have a better sound, and going faster between fingers or pick depends on how good you are with either. I prefer the way a pick sounds. Plus, the bass isn't usually about speed so that's not really a big deal. Plus I think when people play crazy fast with there fingers that it's like, it's cool but it doesn't make my ears happy.
