I can't help but notice the eyebrow roll, nerves do it to me every time... I only wish I was any where near as good as you!!! I've gotta learn that tune!!
No, until your question I hadn`t realized Don Stover had recorded it; just Googled it and it`s great, as all of Don`s stuff was.
I first heard the tune back in the `50s by the Lonesome Pine Fiddlers, a wonderful old early bluegrass group. The banjo player was either Larry Richardson or Charlie Cline, Curly Ray Cline`s brother; not sure which.
Thanks for telling me about Stover`s version (identical but faster). I`ll order a copy!
Good job I remember the fiddlers playing that in bluefield WV I think Charlie Cline played the 5 on that one I like your style keep er down to earth..
The lonesome Pine Fiddlers were under rated as was The Lilly Bros. with Don Stover playing superb Banjo Another group I used to hear a lot of was Hack Johnson and the Tennaseans with Allen Shelton The most under rated was Earl Taylor and the Stoney Mountain boys with Walter Hensley playin as good a banjo as I have heard in my 70 years.
Holy Moly! You`ve just named three of my all-time favorites! I heard the Lilly Brothers several times up in Cambridge, Mass. Stover was amazing.("Things in Life") I`ve got a bunch of Hack Johnson`s records; think it was Shelton playing "Home Sweet Home",and spent many an hour listening to Earl, Walter and "Boatwhistle" at the Club 79 in Baltimore. GREAT stuff!
Haha i love this. I love the banjo and i love the image you bring to it. You just look perfect for the banjo and you even have the hound dog laying there. I LOVE IT!
Thanks. I checked out a few of your tunes and you`re miles ahead of me. My Gibson, according to the serial number, started out as a 1931 style 3 archtop, 2 piece rim plectrum, converted along the way into a one piece rim style 4 "Granada" flattop 5-string. I`ve had it in this form for many years and suspect the conversion was done at least fifty years ago, probably earlier.

Thanks John. I just put "Charlie Cline Lonesome Pine Fiddlers" in Google; found all sorts of stuff. They were a great band, much under rated.
