Thanks for the memories! The first new car I ever bought was a 1990 GT with the 5 speed. Something that amazes people and I have friends that can back me up on this, my GT had the digital dash with fuel mileage display and over 150k miles that car averaged 34.3 mpg. The miles were split 60% highway (70mph) and 40 percent city. Only complaint, it was wimpy top end, once you hit 5th @ 122mph, it was like:123...124... But up to that 122 mark, it was quicker than the 5.0 mustangs of the day.
hmm, i have this car in garnet red with 100k, my indy died tho :( it looks good in black.. did you do a 92-93 tranny swap to get the better gear ratio? If I buy another GTZ ill swap the tranny then.. other than the long 5th gear, this car runs alongside most sports coupes of today with it great engine, mighty quad4 ho
@hottom3rd no tranny swap yet but will do this winter, it also will get an new paintjob. That GTZ already got W41 Cams, chip and a 4-1 exhaust header so its not stock anymore :D

LOL at the spedo, man how do you get it to go past 185 K mine shuts down and only sitting at like 5 grand'ish at that speed. although every other gear but 5th i can get the tach to sit on the bottom of the cluster. 3.1 5 speed N/A soon to be turbo once i pick up and build the engine i bought..
@Extreme1ont well this was when it was completly stock. too bad i didnt had a GPS cause you cant see how fast it really was :D But i guess it was 220kph easily. Its way faster now, still N/A but with cams and exhaust... i should do a topspeed run this summer :)
@Extreme1ont Oh and also have a 3.1 5speed and the governoer sits right at 173kph or so. its kinda annoying cause i bet you can get it up to 190 or so without problems, just the 5th gear kinda sucks... it could be faster with higher 5th gear or moddod engine with a nice cam :)
@ShaneRo182 the 60degree v-6s of the 90's were torque monsters. they were great bottm end cars. the quad 4's were top end cars. the v-6's are good for circle track and the 4's were good for drag. and since circle track is more popular, they made more v-6's than quad4's
by far the most fun i've had with a four cylinder. just a raw, fun car. i bought my 1990 gtz almost ten years ago, i was 17. never even heard of one until after i bought it. i ended up totaling it just two years later. still wish i had that car today. i can hardly stand the attitude of people like mr. shinerunner anymore. why must it be big to have a little fun? why even try and compare a TRUCK with this car?! show how bad it is? a 98 z28 with a procharger wasn't as much fun as this gtz.
@DieselT83 hey man im not out to dog this car or other compacts like it. my truck is in a totally dif category. as a matter of fact, the car me and my bro both owned..(he traded it in for a 93 blazer and STILL regrets it) was a 93 Z24 cav. it had BALLZ for a a car that had 101,000 on it. i had a 74 Nova that had a 350 bored .60 over 4bolt main block that would go down the street sideways. .i test drove that z24 and from a take off it threw me backin theseat. scared the sh** out of me!

I bought my GTZ brand new in 1990. It was unique & it got me quite a few compliments. It was also a crown favorite at the local 1/4 mile track when I'd warm up the tires! Those Gatorbacks were expensive too...yes, it had 180hp stock, I added a K&N filter, splitfire sparkplugs & a centerforce clutch. I was able to coax quite a few mid 15s at the track. I also buried the speedo well past 120mph on the Atlantic City Expressway. I would guess 130-135 mph. Sounded ferocious at top end too.
@MrShinerunner23 Yup, exactly...and I'd spank any car with a 3.1 V6 in it too. With a red line at or close to 7000 rpm (I forget now), I would be able to run each gear in the power band - 3k to upper 6k range. This meant I'd red line @ 105 mph in 3rd gear, and there wasn't a pushrod V6 that could keep up. At low end, the more torque-heavy V6 & V8s would often get a bit of a jump, but once I got out of 2nd gear around 60-65 mph, I would often catch & pass whoever I was racing.
its one thing to show your car and say its bad . but it dont count til you put it up against something. dont get me wrong i like the corsicas, beretta and z24s my bro and i raced each other. but now i got a trk with a 454 in it. i still like those cars but put it up against sumthin. show how bad it is. i constantly look for chevy comapct races on you tube but its all foreign junk. make some movies kids!

That was around 135mph easily.. was abit down hill too so maybe close to +140mph. I think the stock speedlimiter is at around 142mph or so, dont know exactly. But now it doesnt have a speed limiter anymore and some other engine mods, and more to come.

i have a 90 model. it is still in one piece but not running. body is rough. its black too, i put the wheels on my 00'cavalier. wantin to put the engine and trans in my 91 z24.

i have one of those. people can talk all the crap about them they want but in the end you get a pretty good bang for the buck. Mine has the 3.1 V6 and the only mods iv done to it is a cold air intake kit and aftermarker exhaust.
just to let u know change air filter and exhaust u will have 220 hp. i know cause i have one. ur getting 190hp stock best motor quad-4 chevy made, better then 3.1 V6... i beat so many.....
yeah thats no shit. i got a beretta base model and had it for a year with 140,000 miles on it and blew the head gasket. now i have a beretta z26 and its way better
wrong, only 190 hp quads were the w41, never came in the beretta. the HO is 180, with a real exhaust (not just a catback) and a good intake you may see 200, mine has w41 cams, custom chip, 086 pnp head, custom exhaust, and ram air, it might be seeing 220, maybe. but even stock the w41 propelled the calias 442 w41 car to do a 14.7 sec quarter, and its documented in hotrod mag.

Im Video von "djern" (Merging on Speedway) in der leiste rechts is das neue zu sehen.
Bei den Motoren wurde ab 94 nur der 3.1 Liter V6 überarbeitet der dann eben 150-160 ps geleistet hat und 3100 dann geheissen hat.
Das neuere Armaturenbrett finde ich besser, hatten auch schon ne Beretta mit dem neuen Armaturenbrett und es sieht einfach neuer und moderner aus find ich :D. Irgendwann bau ich dann mal das neue in meine GTZ ein :)
Find das alte besser...is irgendwie eher US Style! Das neue sieht mir zusehr nach Japan aus...gab auch welche mit Digitalarmaturen aber ich glaub nur in US und limitiert...
Schigges Ding...Fahre selbst den 2.8 MFI und der ist zuverlässig ohne ende und für GTI jagden hervorragend geeignet...Kommt recht günstig mit Unterhalt und Steuern-der 2.8 schluckt 8-20l je nach Fahrweise...nur Ersatzteile könnnen Problematisch werden gerade was den Innenraum betrifft...
Im Video ist allerdings der Quad4 zu sehen der günstiger im Unterhalt ist allerdings nicht so zuverlässig wie die V6 Motoren (gab es mit 2.8 und 3.1 liter)
Quad 4 günstiger im Unterhalt?? Wenn da mal was kaputt geht, ist der Reparaturaufwand meist deutlich grösser als beim 2.8er. Der 2.8er ist auch ne lahme Gurke dazu :-)!

Steuer wird dich in D 347 EUR kosten, da der GTZ EURO 1 hat. Die GT Modelle mit V6 kann man mit Kaltlaufregler auf EURO 2 umrüsten. Versicherung ist ne Glücksache, kenne jemanden, der den GTZ bei der DAS für 300 EUR im Jahr versichert hat bei 50%. Spritverbauch ist um die 8-10 Liter. Auf der Autobahn bei gemütlichem Tempo geht der Verbauch beim GTZ auch mal unter 7 Liter. Die Autos sind gut, ausser beim Zylinderkopf und der ZKD Dichtung muss man etwas aufpassen.

Der Quad 4 wurde 94 auch nochmals etwas "modifiziert". Die Leistung ging dann auf 170 hp zurück.

Ausserdem hast du noch den 3100er V6 Motor vergessen mit 155-160 ps (nein das ist nicht der 3.1) :)
Und das der 2.8 V6 bis 20 liter schluckt kannst du mir nicht erzählen :D

It`s a 2.3 liter 4 cylinder with 180 hp. It will do around 230 Km/h on the speedo.
