  • I was discussing this commecial with a friend and telling him how I used to wonder why the RIF van didn't come to my white middle-class neighborhood outside of Boston. So here is the ad from the very same channel I used to see it on all the time, Channel 56! They played it constantly. Does the RIF program even exist anymore?

  • @christopherraven RIF just got chopped from the budget. :'(

  • I bet the kid shoplifted a book.

  • I remember this from the early 70's. Thanks for posting. This is why I love youtube.

  • woooooooo..........WLVI 56, i HAVENT SEEN THIS COMMERCIAL IN OVER 25YRS!!!!!!!!

  • Oh, yeah....this is classic....I lived in a rural area and thanks to this PSA wondered why I never got free books from a nice lady in a converted bus.

  • Just when I think youtube can't get any more amazing!

  • I remember seeing these on Channel 56 and was really mad we didn't get the Rif truck delivering books to our poor neighborhood in s.e. ct (the armpit of New England...)...

  • Hahaha. The kid is totally gangsta! Even steals books from little kids!

  • I remember this RIF psa from the early 70s. That kid has to be in his 40s by now. The station ID looks like it is from no earlier than the 90s.

  • Actually the channel 56 ID is from the 80s.

  • I remember RIF from grammer school. Big truck will pull up and we all went class by class to pick out a book.

  • Wow! I must've seen this PSA a few hundred times in the 70's. I remember we would make fun if these commercials by saying RIF, reading is fun for mentals.

  • Hey I remember that commercial! Thanks!

  • This is the one I've been looking for ever since YouTube launched! THANK YOU! And thanks to Pdasilva0324 for the info on the RIF site. I had checked there a while ago but couldn't find it. It's there now on their Retro Rif page. It's also a longer cut running at around a minute. This spoke to me as a city kid growing up in the 70's. Back when cities were cities!

  • @Jolar70 What are they now?

  • Brings back memories. RIF is still around too..they have a cool website and a page dedicated to their 70s and 80s PSA'a!
