  • Gasquet looks tiny coz he has a big head and his movements are pretty stiff. But he's a one handed backhander and I respect that. ;D

  • people keep talking abou how federers backhand can improve but i feel if you guyts are saying it can improve you know nothiing about tennis

  • @swaggernabs

and i feel like if you think any player, not just federer, is absolutely incapable of improving his own game

    you know nothing about tennis

  • Its almost imposible to beat federer on such grass when the ball is skidding. Today it bounces up way high.

  • watching these two backhand it out is pretty fun. two of the best 1h backhands playing

  • 4:17 is like a shot from a movie. a hero runs to the rescue.

  • I wish djokovic came to federer at grass sometimes...

  • two awesome backhands head to head!

  • 1:58-2:11 offf! great!

  • most unlucky thing that someone can get is getting first round draw to wimbledon and get Roger as your first opponent.

  • federer bossing like a boss

  • Gasquet is an amazing player. Love to watch him. But Federer is just too good.

  • Gasquet, you may have good backhand, but you can't vs king!

  • i miss the old centre court electronic score board.

  • i swear, it's like federer doesn't even try and yet still wins...

  • I play like gasquet... no lie...

  • gasquet can EASILY ralley backhand to backhand, or even his backhand to federer's forehand, but the minute it goes to his forehand, gasquet's screwed.

  • @DoctorDoomsday1 Sampras, Agassi, and even Nadal call him king of grass and the best player ever because he plays so well, not because he wins or loses. You think he doesn't work hard? Obviously you win 16 grand slams and 65 million dollars in prize money by just sitting on a couch. Just go away.

  • LOL i am the 126,999th viewer and the 200th to comment :D

  • @Pyroninja85 congratulations!!!

  • The sound of federer hitting was bigger than now. Very solid stroke sound, Thud Thud Thud! Like gunshot.

  • @kumoasis Yeah he shanks a lot now. And he plays with a lower tension. Also the whole motion was different. In my opinion up until 2007 he would sort of hit max power flat shots about 40% of the time now he seems to be content with hitting as much topspin as possible.

  • Your video is super zero. in this video we see only the points scored by Roger Federer

  • is the court slower in wimbledon 2011?

  • Gasquet plainly looks tired to me, plainly. :p

  • @DoctorDoomsday1

So who exactly are Paul Annacone and Severin Luthi?

And btw. Do you know that he watches nearly every match he played to see what he did right and wrong, to see what to change?

  • This Rogi CAN BEAT Today's Rafa 100 times.

  • 0:41 = twins from the shining all grown up

  • Wow. Normally highlights are really biased towards federer but here I feel that Gasquet played really well too. But federer played even better. Sometimes it's just because the oponent is bad but the opponent today would've won against any other person.

  • Gasquet is French so he is a mental midget by default. If he was German or American he would have had 10+ slams by now

  • I can't understand why the commentators keep talking about how much Federer's backhand had improved at that point in time. I mean, this match with Gasquet did take place less than a month after one of the most horrific displays of a backhand ever in the 2006 French Open Final against Nadal. Doesn't add up.

  • @365to173repubsPWNED They say that crap every year. Federer's backhand was spectacular in 2005. 2004 and 2003, too. Heck, 2002 and 2001 as well. The FO 06 match against Nadal was an aberration, but there was no reason to yap about how much it had improved "in the last year," because it was the same as it had been.

  • lol 1:54... ooo...... Ooooo. OOOOOO

  • it's all talent.

  • Gasquet has a better backhand than Federer. Too bad he doesn't have the strategy or physical shape to do much with it.

  • It's rare seeing Gasquet get out hit in backhand to backhand rallies.

  • i love fed. i do however think one day it will be the KINGS of grass - nadal and federer. as long as nadal stays healthy i think he'll end up with 5 or 6 of these. love them both...and awesome that their such amazing friends like in that charity video where they can't stop laughing

  • god i miss this federer

  • Nadal can't hold a candle to that kind of grace and skill.

  • The king (Roger Federer) vs The drug attic (Richard Gasquet)

  • @Denoheatwave Gasquet didn't actually do cocaine...

  • It hurts just to watch Gasquet's movement and forehand. It's almost like he has blisters all over his feet and he is afraid to press too hard down!

  • I love Wimbledon but I cant stand the British. Go figure.

  • I imagine Federer singing to Gasquet after he's hit yet another backhand winner:

"Everything you can do, I can do better, I can do anything better than you!"

  • this was 2006 1st round

and next time ppl talk weak era bullshit, remind them in this tournament Fed beat Gasquet, Henman, Mahut, Berdych, Ancic, Bjorkman with no sets lost then 4 sets over Nadal in the Final.

  • You give federer 2 or 3 forehands in a row and the point's over..

  • the sound became off at 3:25

  • That was a very tough 1st round but Federer in mid 2006 was at his best

  • Only time he didn't shave... :)

  • It is something about these two that make a good match to watch, not the most epic match up but definetly an interesting one

  • i could watch these guys hit backhands all day

  • I love the backhand to backhand exchanges between these two.

  • Gasquet's forehand SUCKS!

  • Gasquet looked like a retard in front of Federer

  • He's not the king of grass, Tennis is more like it.

  • That rally from 0:56 on is classic: Two of the greatest backhands (certainly the greatest one-handed backhands) contest with each other - and the greatest forehand of all time finishes the point with a clean winner.

  • im a gasquet fan but cause of this match you really have to say federer played in another leage

  • this is absolute bliss... beautiful. federer really is the greatest

  • gasquet isn't moving at all...xD

  • ....... which is a shame i think... grass court tennis is alot more exciting than hardcourt.

  • people forget how good federer was and they will say the competition was weak but it was better than previous years. everyone says, oh it was so much tougher in the 70's, 80's and even 90's. but really you only remember a handfull of people and thats what youre judging it on. tennis has alot more depth these days even sampras says so. there may be less serve volly etc but thats not because of lack of talent but the games changed, courts have changed.there are hardly anymore grass courts left...

  • federer's shot at 3:58 looked like it was going out...

  • Hmmm...maybe if Federer grew back the mustache....

  • Federer was so good back then

  • Federer - the maestro: Seeing him playing is very .. great and speacial...

  • lol in 2006 amazing ok but in 2007 was amzing too unbeilve level and 2008 to even rafa got him:) and 2009 again 2010 well he idn tplay so good

  • i don't know why but this seems to be a lot slower paced than this years wimbledon

  • Oh my god, it's just incredible how well he played back then, I mean, he was just toying with Gasquet, who did not even do anything wrong, Roger was just too good. As soon as Gasquet played just a single ball not with maximum pace and angle on the lines, Federer just RIPPED IT down the line or crosscourt!!!

I'm sure that this Federer would have won against Nadal yesterday, there's no doubt! (And of course against Djokovic on saturday, too.)

  • these highlights make gasquet look like he just learned how to play tennis

  • @vanastensucks don't we all if we play a full-flight peaked federer?

  • @mudda001 and who the fuck are you to speak? can you play like him, fool? he only cried that ONE time because he lost the championship that he worked so hard for (I bet you'd be bawling if you lost one simple match)

  • @unowen1446 wawt did mudda001 say? i think he deleted his comment

  • Federer was god-like back then.

I wonder if he still has it in him...

  • And yet people put gasquet backhand above Roger's. Please give us a break will ya.

  • 1 match -> 2 player -> 2 playing with 1hand backhand ... this looks so awesome :D

  • sucks for gasquet cauz i didnt think he did that much wrong out there, he just ran into a dogged federer.

  • if federer had gasquet's backhand he prob wud've............ still been the federer he is lol

  • i love the way the grass looks when its all fresh and not worn out. Interestingly, the grass starts to wear after the first round, just goes to show its all baseline tennis, where the serve and volley at??

  • Iam Roger's fan, but why are there no points from Gasquet?

  • @mikulasvselicha Read the title... its a Roger Federer vid.

  • @mikulasvselicha because he hardly won any ;)

no, this video is a tribute to fed

  • After watching this video it's an insult to Federer calling Gasquet "Federer Jr." And I wish I can see Federer play like this again; in his top form.

  • What is the exact racket that he's using in this video?

  • i whant to play tennis on that grass

  • federer is soooooooooooooooooooo gooooooooooooood

  • 2006 Was the best year for Federer, didn't even drop a set all the way to the final

  • On a side-note, watching poor Gasquet getting slaughtered here, he did play Roddick really well in that QF the year after this. It's like he was a different player, epic match that was.

  • Gasquet's strokes are very medicore

  • grasscourt tennis was so much more amusing until 2006. then all of a sudden i dont know what they did to the grass but they slowed it down so much the rallies on grass started look like on clay.not the ultra fast tennis relying on sheer touch and feel that was required like in here and that was so fresh and easy for the eyes.

  • the federer from 2004-2007 would muder the federer from 2010. I just can't seem to find any comparison between the two. federer used to play really magnificently, nowadays he's losing in a slam quarterfinal, his head goes to outer space every now and then, he isn't half as agressive as he used to be. he's just not fun to watch anymore, he's just some guy with talent who can play outstanding very few times a year. i used to be a great fan, but nowadays he just loses too many times without reason

  • @DomingosSC

That's what 2 kids, Pete's record and all the money in the world will do to you.

Luckily it's that time of the year again where we can see Roger in his natural habitat.

  • I can't wait to see Roger back where he naturally belongs in a few weeks time on centre court at Wimbledon.

But this was peak form Federer, and I think we all know we might not see it again.

  • It's amazing seeing the Wimbledon court in this form when its untouched and when you compare it to how rundown the baseline looks in the final.

  • wimby 06 and aussie open 07 is where federer peaked. unfuckingbelievably good he was during those grand slam periods.

  • Fed was destroying everyone left and right during this period (except Rafa on clay). Poor Gasquet didn't stand a chance.

  • tennis is easy lol

    but only for federer...

  • Gasquet must've felt like a rabbit with an anaconda slowly wrapping around his neck, squeezing the life out of him.

  • The king of grass? He must smoke alot of acapulco gold.

  • God grass tennis is dumb.

  • @ArchaelN123 Yea it's way too fast with the new rackets.

  • @ArchaelN123 grass tennis is dumb? well thats the surface (and exact place) where 'tennis' was born...so really, clay and hard courts are DUMB.

  • @ArjunJethwa the reason that tennis is born on grass doesn't mean it's the best ... on grass it sucks for me monkey balls

  • @mechkapechka the real way grass tennis should be played is super fast grass = how tennis should be played & was born, now all we have is some below-par slow roland garros clay like grass = not how tennis should be played. that sucks.

  • @ArjunJethwa I love the Fast court on Us open before 2007 because they were slowed too

  • did federer forget to shave before this match...he looks older for some reason with this facial hair.

  • anyone who says gasquet is more talented than federer...watch this match. gasquet was schooled..

  • How come this video doesn't show gasquet winning even a single point???

  • cuz look at the title. "federer-king of grass".

  • gasquet took drugs and yet got owned.

  • I seriously think that even if Roger hadn't made that volley at 2:06, the backhand would've been way out.

  • Federer hits some incredible angles on his backhand!

  • @videowatcher93

Gasquet thought if the ball comes up fast in his forehand side, he could't make the most of it because it always comes out short.

That;s why you see he isn't make the most of it all the time, mostly on forehands.

  • is gasquet even trying in this match? it seems like whenever roger hits a down the line shot when he's on the opposite side, he just gives up.

  • eh. 15 grand slams to 0... i think slightly is an understatement when you're talking about the greatest of all time

  • @sweeneytodd190 hahahaha

  • @6Ott7

    No way !!!!!!!!

  • @Deeennisteeennis

After Gasquet beat Roddick @ Wimbledon alot of former tennis players/commentators were saying that Gasquet was more naturally talented than Federer...but even if he was more naturally talented, he never put it to good use. I like his game but in the end it doesnt matter whos more talented because its hard work that pays off in the end...FedEx goes down as the greatest!

  • @deeman123

Okay than Im also more talented than federer

but I never put it to good use too ;) :D

You know its easy to say that ;)

  • lol i guess your right...i checked out your vids (is that you?) your pretty good...who knows maybe even the next Fed??...Bist du Deustch oder?

  • @deeman123 japp bin ich ;)

  • gasquet is just hitting every forehand short, thats why federer is dominating him

  • its funny 2006 1ste round Roger vs Richard en the next year its the semi final xD

  • Gasquet has better backhands than forehands.

  • Wheres the HD? ¬¬

  • In this video you can clearly see, that federer's racket accleration is much faster than nowadays.. I am struck with the new racket k-factor that became less.. Do you think so too?

  • @OgLuc1 Yes...I do

  • look at the brand new green grass...

  • federer has a better forehand than gas. better back hand better serve better volley :D

  • @JUSfr34k you forgot one more

    better strategy :)

  • 6:32 roger looks great with his bearth

  • Federer seems to be in a more relaxed frame of mind when he's playing 3/5 tennis matches. Maybe knowing that he's really the best player out there, he can take his time and the longer the game goes on, the less likely he's going to lose an unlucky game.

  • Maybe he was just more hungry before. I mean, come on, the guy's a father, winner of 15 grand slams, famous world wide, and sits on a shitload of prize money. How ambitious would he have to be to still be hungry for more after this? He's way more chill than before..

  • When people ask why Federer is called The Greatest, just send them to youtube, lol..

  • That forehand around 19 seconds, Roger just takes his time, and then SMACKS it away.

  • back then he had a real chance of breaking his opponent in each of their service games.

in his matches now you just hope it happens.

  • Federer at the absolute height of his powers.

  • MAN he had crazy racket speed then

  • Ummm.he STILL does.

  • @counterkillerdeath i know right

  • this is like MAN vs BOY

    gasquet got squashed!

  • 3:35 that's what I call a fuking one handed backhand. Federer owns.

  • strange in 2006 he completely outplayed nadal in the final and 2006 he was quite close to losing... as for 2008 its quite miraculous he came close to winning somehow

  • Gasquet is just like stefan edberg.

  • umm, how???

  • who are the two women on 0:41?

  • Federer is the best

  • You mean THE shit.

  • I think his top performance in 2006 is at masters cup ;)

  • or maybe australian open 2007.

  • gasquet bkhand takes way too long to set up, eve though it's more powerful than feds. It's like playstation load time compared to n64 load time lols

  • fed doesnt evn look like hes trying lol

  • Gasquet's forehand is really poor man, and his backhand takes too long time to hit a shot. That makes federer much more superb in this match.

  • whos the guy at 7:12

  • That's Colin Montgomerie. A pro golfer.

  • Is there a single highlight for Gasquet?

    Poor chap...

  • its titled "the king of grass"

    you turd

  • Is this not a match highlights video?

Did the maker remove Gasquet's winners?

    Please, do not be rude.

There is no cause for that.

  • yes it is a match highlights video

but the point is to show federer because hes the king of grass

66-1 on grass at wimbledon i believe - his only loss being to nadal last year

hes gonna get his 6th shortly

but gasquets moments were deleted from this video

  • nope. i think the only highlight was that one half volley that gasquet almost made @5 min LOL

  • LOL

  • Gosh the courts here are so much faster! Even the US Open courts seem faster than the "green clay" we have now.

  • Poor Gasquet's forehand sits right up in that wheelhouse of doom.

  • Federer ownage

  • i don't think training is the problem. it's his mental strength which has always let him down.

  • but gasquet must train fitness

  • lol 1st set i dont think there was one highlight for gasquet
