It is a powered parachute not a paraglider. FAR 103 applies to powered parachutes as well. this is why we don't fly around people.

lots of people are saying why did they not get out of the way, because this was a festival and the dumb pilot was trying to do a low pass dropping candy he was never meant to land, now there has been speculation that he hit sink or the candy damaged the prop either way with no saftey margin he piled in. thats why they ran toward its like and anual thing like groundhog day the thing is they should have ground hugged that day.

@clamb147 That's not the only rule he's breaking...it's a two-seater, so he's not allowed to operate under ultralight rules...yet there is no visible N-number on his aircraft, and I'm willing to bet he's not licensed (he'd have to at least be certificated as a Sport Pilot). Also, dropping anything from an aircraft where it can hit people is illegal. The people should've been held back so he can make a pass and drop candy over an empty field (flying parallel to the line the crowd is behind).

To add to what the description said, this happened mid day with thermals popping up everywhere, pilot hit sink, tried to give it full power but could not overcome the sink rate and crashed. Pretty irresponsible to be that low to the ground over all of those people either way though.

This is generally called a powered parachute not a powered paraglider. I suspect the pilot did not see the power lines and had to pull up above them and then the canopy surged afterwards. But he should not have been landing in an area with an uncontrolled crowd.

It is important that AP gets their facts straight. Nerds like flyinhigh aren't the only ones viewing these things. The FAA uses this stuff to determine future restrictions on such activities. In addition, if AP gets a few 'little' facts wrong, eventually they have skewed the bigger picture. Effects us all, not just the PPG community. ppgcowboy mentioned a bit of this a few months ago and was ridiculed by the extremely challenged flyinhigh.

This is not a Paraglider, it's a Powered Parachute. Paragliders have a much better glide and don't utilize heavy trikes and larger engines. This is a PPC or Powered Parachute.
