I don't think there was ever a time when there wasn't spiritual / Christian overtones in Springsteen's music and writing. I don't see how it could have been missed. If he wasn't believing it, why would he follow this song up with "This little light of mine," on the live from Dublin DVD.
The Seeger Sessions was about getting back to the roots of folk music.. This was a folk song before it was considered jazz or blues . The only connections to the Saints football team was that on this tour he performed it in New Orleans and the "Who Dats" went crazy. Then the NFL Network used it to close out the documentary about the Saints' Superbowl season. That was pretty cool.
Wow! I can't believe how many of you are missing the point of Bruce playing this song! It's all there in his "intro" - he wants to be in that number - those that laid out the path for someone like him to come along. Got nothing to do with the religious interpretation of this song...
Good one Bruce! Thanks for saying "oops! I'm sorry I made this huge mistake with Wal-Mart, agreeing to sell my new album exclusively with them, that's a multi-million dollar pay day that won't happen again!" What a liberal hypocrite! Does Brucie sell any albums in China? What about Russia? Last time I checked, they weren't doing so hot in that "workers rights" area! This guy PROVES that these liberal fakes can preach all day long, and at the end of the day, they DO what they CONDEMN others for!
haha...bruce springsteen...a born again...tell me you aren't seriously wondering that. no...this tour was about getting back to the roots of music--folk and gospel.
What if he is? That's his business? Who is forcing you to listen?
Oh, and by the way, what have you accomplished in any life arena that gives you license to criticize someone of Bruce Springsteen's stature. I'm continually amazed when pigmies criticize giants.
Finally, no, he's not "born again." He's playing tradition American folk music in a never-before-attempted way.
That's what great artists do, they create new art.
so there are no americans in Italy? you asshole why would I make reference to the presence of Americans if I thought the show was in the US, you DUMB YANKER
I'll bet a fair few Italians were whooping andd cheering - I'm a Brit but I would be if I were ever lucky enough to be at such a fantastic concert. Peace.
Buena version. Lo único, que no me gusta que siendo tan intimista y lirica, las gentes que asisten al concierto, con sus aplausos y demás, ROMPEN LA MAGIA!
