I found this video in an old favorites list and almost deleted it thinking, "Why on EARTH would I save a quest video??" I have been exalted with Netherwing for months now. Just to sate my curiosity I clicked it. I remember why I saved it now!
I had to do this quest like 6 times over the course of like 2 days... This stupid thing made me want to shoot a walrus with AIDS... But Having flight form made it easier.
i did it first try :o i used 3 tries on mulverick so, the tips is to stay a lil bit beside and behind him, and dodge the fireballs. kinda easy if u ask me
The only problem I have with this is a second after the meteors explode and despawn, i get dismounted. Since I'm a druid, thats OK, but then he gets just a tiny bit too far and it fails me.

I'd have rather they made him despawn less, rather than make it so that you can't get dismounted. I can actually dodge objects, but I can't magically know the extremely small, invisible tether threshold that this dude has, and always stay inside of it.

TwT I finally completed it! I lost about eight times and I was fed up with always losing him when he made sharp turns. But, what I really wanted was for my camera to be more zoomed out. So I went to interface and checked to see how zoomed in / not zoomed in my camera was. It was at its lowest! I had such an easier time with this quest after I fixed that, now my dragon mount's wings didn't take up the whole screen! Thanks for posting this video =D it helped me keep up knowing where to go~!
I have no idea what the fuck is this game's problem, douing great, have him at the end at around 3:40 were approaching the runway for the lat time, hes about a yard infornt of me, dissapear, i fail apparently. Fixed.
I just finished this on my first try. It's not impossible. He kept getting hit by his own fireballs, and I would just hover above him while he "zig-zagged" in place.

I did it on my first try. I'm a crazy flyer too though, and I use my mouse to view where he is, and my asdw (direction arrows) to control where I fly. That helped me Tons
This is too impossible, just at the last stretch when he is zigzagging back and forth I lose him, and no amount of hints and tips are helping - frig this quest. It's going to sit in my quest log for the remainder of my wow life until I can get someone to do it for me.
Nah, druids are lucky that way, if they get knocked off they can shift midair and keep going. The rest of us schmucks have to avoid getting KOd period (shaman here).
With Skyshatter tho, if he passes you while you're shifting you might lose because he gets too far ahead. He's pretty quick.
The "race" quests for the Dragonmaw aren't about beating them to the finish line - it's about A-not getting shot off your mount by the stuff they throw at you, and B-not getting so far behind or losing sight of them that they get too far ahead.
As long as you keep up, keep them in sight, and don't get hit enough to fall, you win.
For all of you trying this quest, buy Noggenfogger. And for all of you that fail over and over, You'll get it no matter how hard you think it is. Get a friend to follow you not in party to misdirect fireballs for you, And also stick in there. You get a feat of strength!!!
Yes this video is indeed outdated, he stops when he hits himself which is kinda dumb if u ask me. but generally u want to do the same as in the video; learn his flight path, stay in front for most of it until right at the end after u pass over the base and over the landing field then hopefully if ur on ur toes ur basically on the home stretch after u climb upwards over the center mountain on the nether ledge.

Here's how to order! Anyway, what I did was just ask a GM for help, and whether an auto-quest completion for this quest is fact of myth. It's myth. However, they said to remove my WTF, Cache, and Interface folders from my World of Warcraft main folder, this will erase your addons, and some other files, however, you can replace these later if you just leave these folders on your desktop. (These also replace themselves, minus your addons.) After that, beat it on the second try.
Excellent musical choice. The song quite fits, you my good friend has some class.
This quest is being extremely annoying for me, not as annoying as trying to jump into the nest and steal eggs in Nagrand, but still very difficult. And this one is so long too!

This quest is not only insanely fucking hard, but really fucking annoying too, with 3 or 4 people trying to do it, and only 1 person being able to at a time, its really annoying, AND the fucking amount of time it takes for him to actually fly his drake to the start is ridiculous, you can walk there and beat him, FUCKING FAIL DESIGN QUEST. hate it.

Completed it today thanks to learning the route by heart.
The funniest thing I got kicked off my mount at some point but due to me flying slightly ahead of him I managed to re-mount and stay in range. I thought the attempt was lost anyway and just... relaxed and finished it!

i think the guy before him was harder (commander from AV) his lighting circle things where such a pain in the ass died like 4 times getting hit off the ledge yea you cant see the meteors comign but at least they dont take up to entire screen
Also, lately, it seems that he can hit himself with his own meteors and get temporarily frozen, which makes trying not to get too far ahead of him even more annoying.
Yeah well was easy 1k rep when I was 70. I tried at least 10 times to get it and I got it done. Now he stops at random constantly and your only chance of beating him is to stay close to his side but at a safe distance. too far ahead and he'll stop, then you fail. too far behind you fail. Stay close and dodge best you can.
I did this quest 3/4 into being revered and now the people who give dailys dont give me anymore dailys can anyone telll me why they dont? or where i can do other dailys?
This was an amazing quest, it is totally doable without a riding crop and i personally insisted on not using one, because you got one for completing it. This Vid (+ the top gun music :P) got me through it, its a worthwhile watch for anyone doing this quest. Very buggy too this one, you may notice at about 3 mins into the vid, he starts skipping back and forward over and over. This doesnt always happen and its rumored to be linked to using a riding crop, even though theoretically its a set path.
I did it in my first try Pre-Wotlk.. He's really harder to do now. in WoW Burning Crusade, you could use the ridding crop (req lvl 70), and there was no random stops like now.
this wuldnt be have as bad if you could just restart the race, instead you have 2 wait a few minutes for him to respwane and walk to the end of the runway
Strongly recommend to learn his fly path. (it took me 2 days to beat him ;/ ). As wotlk when he get hit by his own meteors he stops for a few seconds so if u fall behind u can catch up.
Best way to beat him , for me, is to follow him NOT to be ahead of him.
As of wotlk, I think they changed this. He does a lot more random stops, so you cant race his path. Also, he doesnt seem to stop and go berzerk on you like he did halfway through the video.
It took me 3 or 4 tries to do it. If I had to guess, they nerfed it down. I didn't find it to be difficult at all. Ah well, ez 1k rep.
Anyway, for those who cannot reliably keep ahead of him - here's a textual form of his path:
1. Starting U-turn: onto the strip and back over it. Everyone knows what to do - just stay ahead.
2. Big counterclockwise loop around the island. He'll fly forward from the base to the floating rock ahead, then take a sharp turn left - and then circle the island up until the landing dock (mark it on your map).
(2.) During this stage stay on his LEFT side, at equal height with him. He's going to keep turning left, so by staying on the inner lane you're technically faster than him.
3. He'll climb a mountain, then fly across the middle of the island in a crystal-jagged canyon, high over the base and the strip, and further take a right turn to climb over yet another mountain. During this stage stay on his RIGHT, as his path keeps curving to that side.
5. Nasty part. He'll do a dance, staying in the same area and just firing at you. Just stay around, perhaps a little to the SOUTH of him (that'll be inland, if you're GUI-less).
6. Home run! He'll just climb the ridge over which he's been hovering, follow it west (along the edge) and end up at the dead bird near the airstrip's outward end, take a left turn and he's landing (or just faking - it happens). Stay to his LEFT (that's why you were to stay south of him; when he's flying west, you'll have him on your right wing).
...god i hate this quest so much! After about 5 hours of trying i found this video, it really helped!=] on my second try i was like 50 yards to the finish line and i accidently press Q when evading a comet which is my hotkey for stealth.... *failed quest* This is the hardest quest ive done in WoW, EVER! :/
To be honest with you, this vid rly didnt help me at all... I kept trying but i had to time everything perfect and i had +20% speed goin. My approch(with 20%(pallys/DKs)) was very simple... just keep probibly 15 to 25 feet above him at ALL times and make sure u can see skyshatter's head at the bottom of ur screen. You will have to rapidly hit space bar to make sure ur lvl. With this approach i got it on my first time(vs 50). Just try these 2 methods and u got him no prob.
Thats why its so hard, you cant just follow him like youv done the other races. You need to memoize his route and cut corners to stay ahead of him. The Carrot On a Stick and Riding Crop items also help.
Finally beat this the other night. Once you figure out the path and just stay a few feet in front of him it's actually pretty easy. Did anyone else play this song during the race? It got me pumped up lol. Probably would have beaten it sooner if not for the random freezes I keep getting in Netherwing ledge
Finally did it...video helped a lot. Just learn the route like the video shows. It takes a lot of practice to feel the route that he takes. On top of learning, it also takes luck and good timing.
Towards the end, he sometimes goes back and forth forever and sometimes he does it twice then goes back to the finish lane. Be careful with that.
I can confirm that he doesn't always do a series of swerves/dodges at the area above the flayers. In one of my races (and the one shown here) he swerved and flew back and forth for almost 30secs before finally heading to the finish line, while in the next race he only did a few (10 secs - causing me to fail through range cos I thought he was staying longer). The race in which I finally managed to succeed he only did one circle above the flayers then flew back.
So if you have managed up to this point, just stay close and high enough (ie keep to his inside to cut him off) in case he decided to finish early but not enough so you eat his meteors if he doesn't. seems like the only major random part in the whole race
i swear his route has been altered, i ran the song while flying along with it at almost exactly the same time, song was still playing when he had got to the far end of the runway at the end. whereas on his Vid, music cuts before finish. it seemed to be lacking the bit at about 3:10 where he was getting spammed by mets.... and i did this witohut the help of a riding crop. Tip: he circles round in an anticlockwize direction to start off with, so stick to the inside if him and cut corners.
Also found that learning his route was very useful and it helps that his route is also A LOT shorter than Mulverick's being about 5 minutes long but Skyshatter's is less than that imo. Also don't remember that part near the end where he keeps going back and forth in my run when I beat him, was he glitched or something when you beat him? Anyway very good vid 5/5 :))
I aggree with most people on this one, and that he is a total bitch to beat; but me being a druid I was fairly lucky. Personally I find that Wing Commander Mulverick is more difficult than this guy, or it could just be me :P and yes I also aggree with NiteHackr, I got those same problems mate, I found that with Mulverick aswell and Skyshatter; had one very promising run a couple of runs before I beat him, he just randomly failed it making me very annoyed :/
What you do when you dodge the meteors are impossible for me, I get knocked down if I'm less than a fireball away from the fireball. Mostly random knockdowns by nothing. Also, you got to have the LW trinket cause you're way faster compared to him than I am compared to him.
It would be okay if I somehow fucked up, got knocked out of the sky, got too far away, but this quest gives random fails constantly, I wasn't too far away, I could cound his pubes I was so close, I was dodging his shots easily, and suddenly I get a fail, I wasn't that far away at all, hell, I was closer to him on my last run than I thought I should be, but I was dodging them okay, shrunk down with Noggenfogger... easy... but this game is so full of fucking bugs it's sickening.
omg i HATE this guy i have been trying him for a week...u make it look so easy but i dont know if it is just me but i think i have to stay closer to him he despawns very quick...could b cuz i have all video settings on lowest (y my pc sucks ballz)
The thing I hate most are the crappy made projectiles that hit me even if they miss

This has been nerfed. All you have to do is follow. The meteorites don't do anything and it's by far the easiest of all 6 races.

I found it easier to fly above him, look down and focus on him with the left mouse trigger while moving with the (w,a,s,d) keys.
Then if I needed to dodge a fireball real quick I would tap the right trigger. It gets easier every time you fail, trust me. =)

yeah, but if you have flightform on number 1, and quickly shift to form when you get dismounted, it may work

This quest is being extremely annoying for me, not as annoying as trying to jump into the nest and steal eggs in Nagrand, but still very difficult. And this one is so long too!

This quest is not only insanely fucking hard, but really fucking annoying too, with 3 or 4 people trying to do it, and only 1 person being able to at a time, its really annoying, AND the fucking amount of time it takes for him to actually fly his drake to the start is ridiculous, you can walk there and beat him, FUCKING FAIL DESIGN QUEST. hate it.

Completed it today thanks to learning the route by heart.
The funniest thing I got kicked off my mount at some point but due to me flying slightly ahead of him I managed to re-mount and stay in range. I thought the attempt was lost anyway and just... relaxed and finished it!

i think the guy before him was harder (commander from AV) his lighting circle things where such a pain in the ass died like 4 times getting hit off the ledge yea you cant see the meteors comign but at least they dont take up to entire screen

Also, lately, it seems that he can hit himself with his own meteors and get temporarily frozen, which makes trying not to get too far ahead of him even more annoying.

Yeah well was easy 1k rep when I was 70. I tried at least 10 times to get it and I got it done. Now he stops at random constantly and your only chance of beating him is to stay close to his side but at a safe distance. too far ahead and he'll stop, then you fail. too far behind you fail. Stay close and dodge best you can.

This was an amazing quest, it is totally doable without a riding crop and i personally insisted on not using one, because you got one for completing it. This Vid (+ the top gun music :P) got me through it, its a worthwhile watch for anyone doing this quest. Very buggy too this one, you may notice at about 3 mins into the vid, he starts skipping back and forward over and over. This doesnt always happen and its rumored to be linked to using a riding crop, even though theoretically its a set path.

I did it in my first try Pre-Wotlk.. He's really harder to do now. in WoW Burning Crusade, you could use the ridding crop (req lvl 70), and there was no random stops like now.

Strongly recommend to learn his fly path. (it took me 2 days to beat him ;/ ). As wotlk when he get hit by his own meteors he stops for a few seconds so if u fall behind u can catch up.
Best way to beat him , for me, is to follow him NOT to be ahead of him.
When u learn his fp it will be 4-5 tries max . GL

As of wotlk, I think they changed this. He does a lot more random stops, so you cant race his path. Also, he doesnt seem to stop and go berzerk on you like he did halfway through the video.
It took me 3 or 4 tries to do it. If I had to guess, they nerfed it down. I didn't find it to be difficult at all. Ah well, ez 1k rep.

Anyway, for those who cannot reliably keep ahead of him - here's a textual form of his path:
1. Starting U-turn: onto the strip and back over it. Everyone knows what to do - just stay ahead.
2. Big counterclockwise loop around the island. He'll fly forward from the base to the floating rock ahead, then take a sharp turn left - and then circle the island up until the landing dock (mark it on your map).

He'll just climb the ridge over which he's been hovering, follow it west (along the edge) and end up at the dead bird near the airstrip's outward end, take a left turn and he's landing (or just faking - it happens). ...god i hate this quest so much! After about 5 hours of trying i found this video, it really helped!=] on my second try i was like 50 yards to the finish line and i accidently press Q when evading a comet which is my hotkey for stealth.... *failed quest* This is the hardest quest ive done in WoW, EVER! :/

To be honest with you, this vid rly didnt help me at all... I kept trying but i had to time everything perfect and i had +20% speed goin. My approch(with 20%(pallys/DKs)) was very simple... just keep probibly 15 to 25 feet above him at ALL times and make sure u can see skyshatter's head at the bottom of ur screen. You will have to rapidly hit space bar to make sure ur lvl. With this approach i got it on my first time(vs 50). Just try these 2 methods and u got him no prob.

At lvl 80 with a Magnificent Flying Carpet u don't get dismounted ... ever I know I cheated but I was always falling behind by avoiding his meteors

Sadly that does'nt work anymore. Patch 3.0.8. made the carpet into a mount instead of a vehicle.

Thats why its so hard, you cant just follow him like youv done the other races. You need to memoize his route and cut corners to stay ahead of him. The Carrot On a Stick and Riding Crop items also help.

Finally beat this the other night. Once you figure out the path and just stay a few feet in front of him it's actually pretty easy. Did anyone else play this song during the race? It got me pumped up lol. Probably would have beaten it sooner if not for the random freezes I keep getting in Netherwing ledge

Finally did it...video helped a lot. Just learn the route like the video shows. It takes a lot of practice to feel the route that he takes. On top of learning, it also takes luck and good timing.
Towards the end, he sometimes goes back and forth forever and sometimes he does it twice then goes back to the finish lane. Be careful with that.

I can confirm that he doesn't always do a series of swerves/dodges at the area above the flayers. In one of my races (and the one shown here) he swerved and flew back and forth for almost 30secs before finally heading to the finish line, while in the next race he only did a few (10 secs - causing me to fail through range cos I thought he was staying longer). The race in which I finally managed to succeed he only did one circle above the flayers then flew back.

So if you have managed up to this point, just stay close and high enough (ie keep to his inside to cut him off) in case he decided to finish early but not enough so you eat his meteors if he doesn't. seems like the only major random part in the whole race

i swear his route has been altered, i ran the song while flying along with it at almost exactly the same time, song was still playing when he had got to the far end of the runway at the end. whereas on his Vid, music cuts before finish. it seemed to be lacking the bit at about 3:10 where he was getting spammed by mets.... and i did this witohut the help of a riding crop. Tip: he circles round in an anticlockwize direction to start off with, so stick to the inside if him and cut corners.

Also found that learning his route was very useful and it helps that his route is also A LOT shorter than Mulverick's being about 5 minutes long but Skyshatter's is less than that imo. Also don't remember that part near the end where he keeps going back and forth in my run when I beat him, was he glitched or something when you beat him? Anyway very good vid 5/5 :))

I aggree with most people on this one, and that he is a total bitch to beat; but me being a druid I was fairly lucky. Personally I find that Wing Commander Mulverick is more difficult than this guy, or it could just be me :P and yes I also aggree with NiteHackr, I got those same problems mate, I found that with Mulverick aswell and Skyshatter; had one very promising run a couple of runs before I beat him, he just randomly failed it making me very annoyed :/

What you do when you dodge the meteors are impossible for me, I get knocked down if I'm less than a fireball away from the fireball. Mostly random knockdowns by nothing. Also, you got to have the LW trinket cause you're way faster compared to him than I am compared to him.

It would be okay if I somehow fucked up, got knocked out of the sky, got too far away, but this quest gives random fails constantly, I wasn't too far away, I could cound his pubes I was so close, I was dodging his shots easily, and suddenly I get a fail, I wasn't that far away at all, hell, I was closer to him on my last run than I thought I should be, but I was dodging them okay, shrunk down with Noggenfogger... easy... but this game is so full of fucking bugs it's sickening.
