They are 4 into it and 3 more on the sides. Here you can see the ace who picks left flanker-the lady, right flanker-the big guy, rear cover the small guy who stays back to back with the picker. The other 3 will start fighting with the flankers if something goes wrong to distract attention- a technique that is called tapaj. In my city i have seen thieves like these almost linched by the crowd so the incidence is very low. Many scums migrated to other countries because it is less dangerous.

once, i am walking along the streets of the busy Manila, Philippine street. I have seen one like on her tweenties, on the act of picking pocket from the backpack of a student. the students are happily walking and talking, they don't know that at their back, somebody is lurking their bags.

Just came from a video Project in Milan (which I will post soon); I was stressed worrying about pickpockets there. I heard bad things about Milan, especially Central Station in Milan. However, each time I see this video this kind of ad-hoc choreography baffles me. Just seeing how they work together with clockwork precision... It's an art really. And they're artists.

There are at least 5: the guy who does it, the girl in red, the tall guy in the red and blue shirt, the guy with the glasses on his head and the one who arrives last and plugs himself in the middle of the action. You can clearly see them regrouping after everything goes down.

There is a guy with a red t-shirt and grey jacket, who is also a suspect. He forces his way through the crowd, instead of waiting at the back like everyone else, and why... to shield the pickpocket's right side. You can see him clearly position himself properly, and then also nervously touch his face at 0:23.

This is a damn good video, and should be used to train upcoming CCTV operators, to see if they are capable of picking up suspects.

Just watch her only right through the whole thing. You can see that she is acting as a human shield to the people behind. She waits to move across in between the pickpocket and the people behind him just as he does it. The first attempt fails and she holds her position until the second attempt.

It's a matter of experience. You can spot body language. I picked him up within the first 15 seconds. He checks who is behind him & disguises it with looking at his shoe. He then gives a nood as a signal to one of the lookouts behind him. Then he nervously looks about & tugs at his jacket, and touches his face (which can be very common) especially after his first failed attempt.

Now "pickpocketing" a backpack IS easier to do than pants (since there is less contact with the actual person), BUT the impressive part about what this person did is that he had the balls to do it surrounded by people.
