Let the celebration of the Eucharist be considered valid which is held under the bishop or anyone to whom he has committed it. Where the bishop appears, there let the people be, just as where Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church. 110 A.D.
They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer, because they confess not the Eucharist to be the flesh of our Saviour Jesus Christ, which suffered for our sins, and which the Father, of His goodness, raised up again. Those, therefore, who speak against this gift of God, incur death in the midst of their disputes. 110 A.D.
And this food is called among us Eukaristia [the Eucharist], of which no one is allowed to partake but the man who believes that the things which we teach are true, and who has been washed with the washing that is for the remission of sins, and unto regeneration, and who is so living as Christ has enjoined.
Justin Martyrs first apology ch.66 (155 AD) (cont.)
For not as common bread and common drink do we receive these; but in like manner as Jesus Christ our Saviour, having been made flesh by the Word of God, had both flesh and blood for our salvation, so likewise have we been taught that the food which is blessed by the prayer of His word, and from which our blood and flesh by transmutation are nourished, is the flesh and blood of that Jesus who was made flesh.
"For as the bread, which is produced from the earth, when it receives the invocation of God, is no longer common bread, but the Eucharist, consisting of two realities, earthly and heavenly; so also our bodies, when they receive the Eucharist, are no longer corruptible, having the hope of the resurrection to eternity. (189 A.D.)
"When, therefore, the mingled cup and the baked bread receives the Word of God, and becomes the Eucharist, the blood and the body of Christ, and from these the substance of our flesh is increased and supported, how can they say that the flesh is incapable of receiving the gift of God, which is life eternal, which [flesh] is nourished from the body and blood of the Lord, and is a member of Him? (189 A.D.)
Moreover, we ask that this bread be given daily, lest we, who are in Christ and receive the Eucharist daily as food of salvation, with the intervention of some more grievous sin, while we are shut off and as non-communicants are kept from the heavenly bread, be separated from the body of Christ as He Himself declares, saying: 'I am the bread of life which came down from heaven.
If any man eat of my bread he shall live forever. Moreover, the bread that I shall give is my flesh for the life of the world.' Since then He says that, if anyone eats of His bread, he lives forever, as it is manifest that they live who attain to His body and receive the Eucharist by right of communion, so on the other hand we must fear and pray lest anyone, while he is cut off and separated from the body of Christ, remain apart from salvation,
as He Himself threatens, saying: 'Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink His blood, you shall not have life in you.' And so we petition that our bread, that is Christ, be given us daily, so that we, who abide and live in Christ, may not withdraw from His sanctification and body.
The priest who imitates that which Christ did, truly takes the place of Christ, and offers there in the Church a true and perfect sacrifice to God the Father.
@SacredHeartChurch Cardinal Newman admits in his book that; the temples, incense, oil lamps, votive offerings, holy water, Holidays, and seasons of devotion, processions, blessings of the fields, sacerdotal vestments, the tonsure (of priests, munks and nuns), images, and statues are all of PAGAN ORIGIN. -The Development of the Christian Religion Cardinal Newman p.359
Cyril of Jerusalem "Catechetical Lectures n. 22 v.3" (350 A.D.)
Wherefore with full assurance let us partake as of the Body and Blood of Christ: for in the figure of Bread is given to thee His Body, and in the figure of Wine His Blood; that thou by partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ, mayest be made of the same body and the same blood with Him.
Cyril of Jerusalem "Catechetical Lectures n. 22 v.3" (cont.)
For thus we come to bear Christ in us, because His Body and Blood are distributed through our members; thus it is that, according to the blessed Peter, we became partakers of the divine nature.
@SacredHeartChurch The Catechism of the Council of Trent states these words: "It is lawful to have images in the Church, and to give honor and worship unto them...".
The twenty-fifth session of the Council of Trent decrees that the images of Christ and the Virgin Mary, and of the other saints, are especially to be had and retained in the churches, and that honor and veneration are to be paid to them.

Isaiah 42:8 "I [am] the LORD: that [is] my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images."
Cyril of Jerusalem "Catechetical Lectures n. 23 v.23"
Hold fast these traditions undefiled and, keep yourselves free from offence. Sever not yourselves from the Communion; deprive not yourselves, through the pollution of sins, of these Holy and Spiritual Mysteries. (350 A.D.)
Augustine (The City of God, 10, 5; 10,20, c. 426:)
"Christ is both the Priest, offering Himself, and Himself the Victim. He willed that the sacramental sign of this should be the daily sacrifice of the Church, who, since the Church is His body and He the Head, learns to offer herself through Him.
...I promised you, who have now been baptized, a sermon in which I would explain the Sacrament of the Lord's Table, which you now look upon and of which you last night were made participants. Chrysostom "Homilies on the Gospel of Matthew, 82, 4" (370 A.D.)
Let us submit to God in all things and not contradict Him, even if what He says seems contrary to our reason and intellect; rather let His words prevail over our reason and intellect. Let us act in this way with regard to the (eucharistic) mysteries, looking not only at what falls under our senses but holding on to His words. For His word cannot lead us astray. . .
Chrysostom "Homilies on the Gospel of Matthew, 82, 4" (370 A.D.) cont.
When the word says, `This is My Body', be convinced of it and believe it, and look at it with the eyes of the mind. . . How many now say, `I wish I could see His shape, His appearance, His garments, His sandals.' Only look! You see Him! You touch Him! You eat Him!
Chrysostom "on the second Epistle to Timothy, 2, 4" (397 A.D.)
I wish to add something that is plainly awe-inspiring, but do not be astonished or upset. This Sacrifice, no matter who offers it, be it Peter or Paul, is always the same as that which Christ gave His disciples and which priests now offer:
Chrysostom "on the second Epistle to Timothy, 2, 4" (397 A.D.) cont.
The offering of today is in no way inferior to that which Christ offered, because it is not men who sanctify the offering of today; it is the same Christ who sanctified His own. For just as the words which God spoke are the very same as those which the priest now speaks, so too the oblation is the very same.
Hopefully they will come to realize that the True Mass is the Traditional Latin Mass. No matter how they say it in the new mass, it will remain a Protestantized version. The Latin Mass brought about our Saints and Holy People. Because it had only male altar boys, which gave us holy priets and because they new the meaning of the word "Sacrifice" of the Mass. The new church calls it a "gathering" a banquet table", a "celebration"..but not a SACRIFICE, of which it is!
In full communion with Rome there are several different rites which do not and never have followed the Tridentine Mass - Maronite's, Coptics etc
They are in full communion and their Mass is entirely valid.
The earliest saints would not have had the Tridentine Mass - it was only inforced as the norm in the western Church in 1570 in response to the Council of Trent.
In regards to Mass being referred to as a sacrifice - every priest I have come across in the Novus Ordo has called it a sacrifice.
Well put. In fact if the poster "billjkahn" will watch the series we just posted on the mass he will hear Fr. Liam talk in depth about how the mass is a sacrifice.
How do you explain that the Apocrypha contains fabulous statements which not only contradict the "canonical" scriptures but themselves. For example, in the two Books of Maccabees, Antiochus Epiphanes is made to die three different deaths in three different places?
A very solemn Mass...Its very saddening though many priests abused the Ordinary Mass, and many Catholics today are very freaked out when they hear about the Tridentine Mass, some even don't know that.
I am very pleased on seeing this video. The Holy Eucharist is the essense of the Church, is the very heart of our faith that GOD IS WITH US "EMMANUEL". What a pity that protestants don't have true epispopasy (without apostolic succession)and true Eucharist. Only the Eastern (Orthodox) and the Western (Roman Catholic) have TRUE EUCHARIST which is "the communion of the Body & the Blood of Christ"
Anglican and Old Catholic Bishops, among others have been consecrated in Apostolic Succession preserving the Historic EpisCopate. There was never a break in succession from the Roman Bishops to these protestant Bishops. And, How are both RC and Orthodox Eucharists valid if they aren't in communion with each other? TRUE Eucharist indeed. A TRUE Eucharist is a THANKSGIVING (definition of Eucharist) that would allow all to COMMUNE as followers of Christ and exclude NO ONE from Christ's table.

Why does god forbid human sacrifice in one place,
then turn around and demand human sacrifice to appease his rage?
Simlarly, God forbids drinking blood,
then Jesus demands the drinking of his blood,
which, along with ritualized cannibalism,
xians still practice today?
Why did god forbid punishing people for the actions of their fathers,
then condemn us for the actions of Adam?
I think God is a hypocrite.

John 6:33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
The Bread He speaks of ABSOLUTELY CAN NOT be FLESH since he did not bring His Flesh with Him from Heaven!
Try substituting the word FLESH in this verse. That is HERESY
Word became FLESH
Galatians 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, MADE OF A WOMAN
Of the SEED of a woman Gen 3:15

The first 1500 years of Christianity disagrees with you. I recommend you read some of the early fathers of the church as well as the Catholic catechism, and Scott Hahn. God bless you, Marc

But I have read them, just because you have not don't assume everyone is as ignorant of the fathers
So you believe the HERESY that the FLESH came down from heaven?

John 6:33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
The BREAD does not equal FLESH here becase
God came down from heaven "HE" which cometh down
God was here in the Flesh but did not bring flesh from heaven
He ascended into heaven in the FLESH but did not come down IN flesh but became FLESH
The BREAD of Life is a PERSON not a cookie

Interesting you are just like a Mormon or Jehovahs Witness who promise folks a "Bible study" & then pull the switcheroo and end up substituting mens RELIGIOUS works rather than the Holy Word of God
Shame on you!

I'm not interested in a youtube debate. I'll just say this. You use the Bible to make your point yet you reject the Church that God used to give it to you.
"As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction." 2 Peter 3:16

Ignatius to the smyrnaens ch.8 (110 AD)
Let the celebration of the Eucharist be considered valid which is held under the bishop or anyone to whom he has committed it. Where the bishop appears, there let the people be, just as where Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church. 110 A.D.

They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer, because they confess not the Eucharist to be the flesh of our Saviour Jesus Christ, which suffered for our sins, and which the Father, of His goodness, raised up again. Those, therefore, who speak against this gift of God, incur death in the midst of their disputes. 110 A.D.

Justin Martyrs first apology ch.66 (155 AD)

Cyprian on the Lords Prayer CH.18 (252 A.D.)

Cyprian on the Lords Prayer (cont.)

Wherefore with full assurance let us partake as of the Body and Blood of Christ: for in the figure of Bread is given to thee His Body, and in the figure of Wine His Blood; that thou by partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ, mayest be made of the same body and the same blood with Him.

Augustine (Sermons 227)
...I promised you, who have now been baptized, a sermon in which I would explain the Sacrament of the Lord's Table, which you now look upon and of which you last night were made participants. You ought to know what you have received, what you are going to receive, and what you ought to receive daily. That Bread which you see on the altar, having been sanctified by the word of God, is the Body of Christ.

For His word cannot lead us astray. . .

MrsMcCullough86 3 years ago
A very solemn Mass...Its very saddening though many priests abused the Ordinary Mass, and many Catholics today are very freaked out when they hear about the Tridentine Mass, some even don't know that.

Laudatur Jesus Christus!
I am very pleased on seeing this video. The Holy Eucharist is the essense of the Church, is the very heart of our faith that GOD IS WITH US "EMMANUEL". What a pity that protestants don't have true epispopasy (without apostolic succession)and true Eucharist. Only the Eastern (Orthodox) and the Western (Roman Catholic) have TRUE EUCHARIST which is "the communion of the Body & the Blood of Christ"
nikos261175 4 years ago
Anglican and Old Catholic Bishops, among others have been consecrated in Apostolic Succession preserving the Historic EpisCopate. There was never a break in succession from the Roman Bishops to these protestant Bishops. And, How are both RC and Orthodox Eucharists valid if they aren't in communion with each other? TRUE Eucharist indeed. A TRUE Eucharist is a THANKSGIVING (definition of Eucharist) that would allow all to COMMUNE as followers of Christ and exclude NO ONE from Christ's table.

The Anglican orders are NOT valid and Rome decreed that years ago.
