How fascinating to hear comments from the great Walter working at the side of the mystical, inspired Mahler.
Walter remains one of my favorite conductors with his transparent, direct interpretations. Certainly Bernstein picked up Mahler's mantle, succeeding Walter in the further promulgation of his works.
