  • The full-stage werewolf in An American Werewolf in London is still the best looking werewolf in film history. This is true artistry, innovation and talent on a grand scale. These effects had to be invented from scratch. Today's CGI has become far too over-used, although it's impressive, but it's been overdone. Rick Baker's work and his effects-crew on this film totally deserved the Oscar that he won for best SFX.

  • Did Rick Baker call the gorilla a fat black man?

  • rick baker is the huy for makeup, he's worked for some of my favorite movies like the planet of the apes ti'm burtons version and the star wars prequels.

  • A disappointing shoot? it was amazing

  • Don't forget The Fly and Fly II. Some damn great effects

  • He in Rob Bottin are great at this

  • @xShadowxPhoenix yes i wish Rob Bottin would get back into it again!!

  • @Warlord2029 What's he doing now

  • What's the movie with Nazi-demons? That looks awesome.

  • @NappySoul23 An American Werewolf in London... The demons haunt him in his nightmares...

  • @NappySoul23 They are in "American Werewolf in London". After the attack on the moors, David has intense nightmares. They were in one of his dreams.

  • Poor John Landis

He still has people on his ass for the Twilight Zone movie helicopter incident

  • I am a massive fan of this movie and i think the makeup work is fucking amazing but I always thought that the fully metamorphosised wplf didn't look very good, however i have always marvelled at how good it looks when he is changing. When the muzzle pushes out, that is the best part. It does look painful but it also looks like - wholly fuck, how did they do that. This is constructive criticism, but also praise. At no point am I trying to put this down. I think it is a remarkable piece of work.

  • Wrong John. You didn't show the werewolf too much, if anything you didnt show it enough! Thats was annoys me about modern horror/monster movies. You never get to see much of it like in Cloverleaf. I paid £7.50 too see a monster movie, wheres the fucking monster?

  • Man, Landis can be so condescending. Rick is alive and well and still working. I dunno why they left that in there

  • @TheGreaterGood80 I thought, for sure, he was just being facetious. Don't you think?

  • @TheGreaterGood80 I agree. I dunno what Landis meant by that comment. May be he thinks he could have done better work, I dunno.

  • @bergalini Do you mean the "Whatever happened to Rick Baler Comment?"? It was deadpan sarcasm. He was joking. Baker became a total superstar and went on to win 7 Academy Awards.

  • @nightshadedesign yeah, that was the comment. Yeah, now that you pointed it out, it does seem sarcastic. When I originally watched it though I got the impression that Landis thought that he had gone downhill. But yeah, I think you are right. I am a sarcastic person but even still, it is quite hard to pick up on sometimes.

  • @nightshadedesign do you know how much money he earns?

  • what movie is the monster from at 6:59 in the video im just curious

  • I loved this werewolf design all my life. And the ones in The Howling too.

  • Rick Baker's Special Make-Up Fx In An American WereWolf In London Is Amazing and still stands out 28 years ago when it was first released, Plus he Won his 1st Oscar for it, I am dissapointed that The WolfMan won't be out till Feb 2010

  • an american werewolf in london is a great horror film and less realized, a love story.

  • Did anyone notice at :25-:28 David Naughton (who played david kessler aka the werewolf in the film) was wearing jeans still after he took his clothes off when the transformation began.

  • 28 years later, still utterly brilliant. Even with today's computer technology, the effects in this movie have NEVER been topped.

    That's pretty incredible.

  • so true, CGI can NEVER come close to this.

  • The american werewolf still scares the crap out of me to this day!

The editing does it for me!

Cgi just shows an overall/wide angle of the beast which is blabla but the old movies shows the "Shock" expression on the actors face which sells it!

  • Great duo no doubt- I prefer the Carpenter/Bottin team myself, but that's just me

  • American Werewolf in London and The Thing are 2 of the greatest horror movies of all time. Both scared the hell outta me, and both feature INCREDIBLE special effects. I'm so lucky to have been born early enough to have seen both, multiple times, in the theater.

  • I'm not sure that there are words enough to thank you for posting this stuff.

  • OMG IT'S SUPER CANCER!

  • it's mutation

  • It will be a sad day when rick bakers exits this world I can tell you.On the flip side landis and his eventual demise will be greeted with hooting & celebration for the black mark against his name will forever be his reckless attitude in being directly responsible for the deaths of vic morrow & the 2 ILLEGAL asian children on the set of twilight zone the movie.

  • RICK BAKER IS HOT!!!!!!!

  • Their work is outstanding and puts CGI to shame!

  • landis & baker are my true heros love their work rick baker got the best studio the wereworlf bust is badass

  • I met the guy who made the make up for an American were wolf in london in florida he was at the horror make up show in universal studios.

  • Pure magic - thanks to whoever posted. Mr. Baker, Mr. Landis, salute! 'AAWIL' is a movie I love, deeply.
