  • Oakland in its glory days.

  • Ghost to the post!!!!

  • In the 1977 playoff championship game against Denver, the raiders got hosed by the officials on the Lytle fumble that wasn't called. Oakland against Dallas would have been quite an interesting SuperBowl, with Stabler going against Staubach, Madden vs Landry.

  • Those 1970s Oakland Raiders were great! I used to love to see them play the Steelers. Ken Stabler was a hell of a player.

  • @MrBolas33 And guess what? Out of the mouths of ALL of that core group of players, on the Pittsburgh Steelers 1970's LEGENDARY STEEL CURTAIN DEFENSE, the one quarterback they TRULY dreaded playing against was "THE SNAKE". Ken Stabler.

  • @Oaklandgirlpitlover1 So what, everyone knows Stabler was great. Who's denying that?

  • @Bigbadben7 in my opinion i think it wouldve been one of the coolest shootouts in a superbowl

  • ghost to the post!!!

  • Great music!

  • This is great. Thanks. Just wish the Video was of good quality. The music is superb. Boy where they something special with Stabler leading the way. We will never see anybody close to the likes of Stabler. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY THREW A PRETTIER LOOKING PASS THAN KENNY STABLER. Long live the Snake.

Oh, and yes Van Eaghan was the FB and Clarence Davis was the TB. As a true Raider fan I must report, however, that this game did not take place during the 77 season but 78 or 79. No doubt.

  • 1977 Season ,The Colts made it to the playoffs as a #2 seed and played host to the Oakland Raiders in the divisional round. After the first overtime went scoreless, Casper caught a 10-yard touchdown pass 43 seconds into the period to win the game for the Raiders.

  • Russell is the new Marc Wilson. Al has always done this.

Al also always has one guy he won't play.

Javon Walker, Marcus Allen and others.

    Al must step aside.

  • 1974 and 1977 Raiders were teams that could beat quite a few Super Bowl champs more often than not IMO. also 1976 Raiders were the greatest team ever

  • hell ya dude they were in my opinion a better team than steel city and if they played the vikings in '74 they wouldve killed them. i still think they wouldve won that superbowl in '77 if that running back on denver didn't get lucky on that bullshit call!

  • I dunno, Dallas was REALLY tough that year. But for sure, it would have been a much better game.

  • ya but both dallas and denver gave up a ton of turnovers!!!!

  • Dallas might have won, but I don't think Oakland's OL would have been manhandled the way Denver's was. It would have been interesting to watch Upshaw and Shell face off with Randy White and Harvey Martin, though.

  • @gfpirate I've seen that match up occur. Several times in pre-season, but twice in regular season. 1974 and 1980 (I think).

  • @Oaklandgirlpitlover1 It did occur, I believe in 1980 with White/Martin vs. Upshaw/Shell. However, I don't think Randy White was with Dallas in 1974. He was a rookie in 1975. I still would love to have seen an Oakland-Dallas Super Bowl, not only because they were two great teams, but also the way the game could have been sold by contrasting the two personalities of the teams.

  • @gfpirate I agree.

  • @Xdust3 Oakland would have KILLED Dallas in Super Bowl XII.

  • @Oaklandgirlpitlover1 Hey would've been a great game

  • @richgannonrocks Yes it would have. As long as they didn't turn the ball over so many times, like they did against Denver. Oakland, at that time, was the LAST team you would want to make that many mistakes against in a game. And then expect to WIN it? Totally impossible. There was just no way. I saw teams bring their (A) Game against Oakland back in those days, and STILL get their asses whipped.

  • @Oaklandgirlpitlover1 Don't be so sure about what Oak would have done vs Dallas in SB XII. Oakland lost to Denver in the AFC title game, a team Dallas beat the hell out of in the SB 2 weeks later. Given division games are tougher to win and Oakland probably got screwed on the Denver fumble at the goal line but they still didn't have home field advantage that year.

Dallas in 77 were pretty damn good and they proved it by winning the NFC the following year as well.

Staubach 4 SB games, Stabler 1

  • @Bigbadben7 Well guess what, my fiend, Oakland BEAT Denver in that same location earlier in the year 24-14. So home field advantage had NOTHING to do with it. Oakland owned Denver back then. And as for Dallas, if they had come into Super Bowl XII making all them mistakes, like they did against Denver, it would have been a done deal for the Cowboys. Curtains. OAKLAND WOULD HAVE KILLED DALLAS!! HOWEVER; Oakland vs Dallas in Super Bowl XII, bot bringing their "A" game, NOW you MIGHT have a point.

  • @Oaklandgirlpitlover1 But Honestly, I don't blame you for your comment. That is, if you are a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. But you will have to forgive me. I'm a fan of the Oakland Raiders. Plus I grew up here in Oakland during that wonderful time of the 1970's. When it was almost inevitable for a kid to become a Raiders fan. So naturally, I will admit that I'm just a "LITTLE" biased toward the Raiders. LOL! So you'll have to forgive me.

  • @Oaklandgirlpitlover1 Instead of arguing, and I'm as guilty as anyone, we ought to be be proud of the 70s. It was easily the NFL golden era. No era had as much grace and brute force at the same time. The players were gaining more agility than in decades past but at the same time the old school rules were still in affect on Defense through 77 and were often still permitted in 78 and 79.

  • @Bigbadben7 I TOTALLY agree with you there. By the way, do you notice that just about ALL of the big guys on the offensive and defensive lines back then were much more solid muscle, much more physically fit? you know, before that fat ass 1980's William Perry Shit became popular? You ever noticed during the 1970's, that you didn't really see much bellies hanging out from under their jerseys. God I miss the 1970's. And you are right. The GOLDEN ERA OF FOOTBALL. :)

  • @Oaklandgirlpitlover1 Good point. The Super Seventies!

  • The 1976 Steelers would have taken out a number of Super Bowl champs as well. They had the misfortune of running into the Raiders of that year. I'm a big Steelers fan, but I have to admit that even if Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier were healthy for that game, I don't think the outcome would have been different.

Suffice it to say that the real "Super Bowls" from 1974-76 were the AFC Championship Games between the Raiders and Steelers.

  • wow, I have a lot of respect for you for admitting that. Most Steeler fans I've heard just talk about how dirty we were when really everyone was back then. From my perspective, the 70s Steelers were the greatest team of any decade ever. We had really similar teams, the 2 best rushing FBs ever, the 2 best QBs, the 2 best recieving cores. I'd say we hadthe best o-line of all time while you guys had the best front 7 of all time. I'd say our secondary was the best, we both had so so many HOFers

  • The Steelers could take some cheap shots from time to time; e.g., Joe Greene sucker punching a guy for Denver, Fats Holmes, Glen Edwards and groundskeeper Dirt DiNardo icing down the turf for the 1975 AFC Championship Game. The Steelers and Raiders of that time were two very physical teams that loved to mix it up.

  • I totally agree! One way to prove this, just look at the Pro Bowls during the 70's.

  • hey OAKLACLAAUSFAN, who was Raiders FB? i can't remember? actually who was RB at the time? was it Van eeghan?

  • Oddly enough he played in the FB spot but he was the main rusher getting about half the carries instead of the HBs Clarence Davis and Pete Banaszak who shared the other half. It was the same situation as the Steelers who's main rusher was FB Franco Harris.

  • who was better Plunkett or Stabler?

  • Both we're incredible, but IMO it's Stabler, whenever the game was on the line he made all the throws they needed better than pretty much anyone I've ever seen. His career stats wern't that great, but that's somewhat because he played in the NFL much longer than he should have, wandering from team to team at the end.

"I would like to play five more years, minimum. Id like to be like the Snake (Ken Stabler) all that gray hair, throwing side arm until they kick me out of the league." Joe Montana

  • @quincee33 No question Plunkett was better in twilight years, When they were in their prime, Stabler was better because of Plunkett throwing a fairly high number of interceptions.

  • @quincee33 That's a very interesting question. Both were AWESOME during their years with the Raiders. But by a 2 to 1 margin, I have to go with "THE SNAKE". Ken Stabler won more games, and threw for more touchdowns. Plunkett, with all due respect, had a bit of a rougher time. He lost his job as starter, to Marc Wilson twice (1981 and '83*). But thank GOD he regained it in 1983, and took the Raiders to the last Super Bowl they've ever won LATELY. But Stabler was a true OAKLAND Raiders QB.

  • @quincee33 Yes. It was DEFINITELY Mark Van Eeghen.

  • right you are!!!! what battles they had and then to play the sisies from the NFC

  • Dude, Franco and Belier both had over 1,000 yds in 1976, Oakland has to respect the play action pass and put 8 in the box if they are both in the game or even just Franco.

Without him the passing game and rushing game suffers as it does when other teams don't have their Pro Bowl starting runners.

Naturally the O is on the field less and the D more and as a result they get tired and give up more points.

  • @Bigbadben7 Oh Oakland did respect the play action. And we beat Pittsburgh in the season opener with both of your great Pro Bowl starting running backs. Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier.

  • @Oaklandgirlpitlover1 Anyone who knows anything about the NFL knows opening day may as well be a different season by the time of the playoffs.

Tell me how Oak can respect play action when the starting RB is Frenchy Fuqa?

You can hate on the Steelers all you want but Pittsburgh has been to EIGHT SBs and won Six and the their two losses have been good games. Oakland has been five SBs and won 3 and had the living shit kicked out of them in both losses! You guys lost to a Brad Johnson team LMFAO!

  • @lembillings And don't forget, the Raiders beat the Steelers in the Reason opener of 1976. The game was in Oakland. And Ken Stabler led the Raiders on an amazing comeback victory 31-28. And both Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier played in that game at full strength. Lynn Swann too (Sort of). Thanks to George Atkinson.

  • @OAKLACLAAUSCFAN try the 1985 bears??

  • @OAKLACLAAUSCFAN Yeah man!!!! I agree!!! FUCK PITTSBURGH!!!!!!!

  • Excellent observation!I think when Erroll Mann replaced the injured Fred Steinfort in 1976,he was like 4 for 10 for the season or sumthin like that. And he missed a FG and 2 extra points in Super Bowl XI.But in his defense,if im not mistaken he had a great year in 1977 and actually LED the AFC in scoring(Can someone out there confirm that?)But yes, i remember Erroll kicking VERY well.I remember it as an adventure into the unknown each and every time.

  • wait so superbowl XI shouldve have been 34-14? i thot that he just missed one extra point?

  • He missed an extra point attempt after Pete Banaszak scored to make it 16-0,and he missed the PAT after "Ole Man Willies" 75 yard INT for a TD.And im 95 percent sure he missed a FG as well(hafta watch the DVD of Super Bowl XI again to verify that)So the score COULDA been 37-14.The 32-14 final score was still a good enough ass-kicking,tho.But again in Errolls defense you gotta agree he made one of the biggest field goal attempts in team history-his FG that sent the "Ghost to the post" game to OT.

  • lester hayes is still not in canton either....(i like the raiders becuz bo jackson is one of my favorite players of all time)

  • HOF....not only missing on "the snake",but why don't they put the greatest punter ever in...Ray Guy deserves to be in the HOF

  • Absolutely. I hate discrediting punters! The guy was dominant!!!

  • Ya...if Joe Namath can get into the HOF w/ a QB rating of 66.something then so should Stabler.

  • i agree joe namath is sooooo overated

  • C'mon! Namath played in a different era.

  • Nice stabler video!!

  • And CLIFF BRANCH in the HOF along side Stabler. Branch wasn't just fast, he was greased lightning on the field. Who else was in his league during that time? Swann, Stallworth maybe. Not until Jerry Rice was there a more explosive wide receiver in the NFL

  • "Ghost to the post"is one of the top 5 plays in Raider history. This is my personal top 5 plays in Raider history:1)The Holy Roller 2)Sea of hands 3)Ghost to the post 4)Marcus Allen.....running with the night 5)Old Man Willie...hes going all the way! It would be interesting to hear other peoples all-time Raider plays:Do you agree with me or do you think other plays should be in the top 5.I have 5 more great plays to round out a top-ten list. Will post the other 5 plays next time.Think about it.

  • I like the play where Rich Gannon throws it up for grabs in the middle of the field in the biggest game of his life.

  • I hear u huggy, that reminds me I always like the deal when the post man rings ur doorbell your wife is greeting him spread eagle in the LR. a nice image ehh--two can play he game.

  • Well; How about that Monday Night Game in New Orleans against the Saints in December of 1979. Stabler's last comeback victory as an Oakland Raider. Where he threw for three touchdowns in the fourth quarter. WITH A CONCUSSION. OAKLAND 42 - NEW ORLEANS 35.

  • GHOST TO THE POST!!!!

  • the raiders are getting jipped, they should have one more HOF in Kenny Stabler

  • i agree. lol i cant beleive a packer fan would agree with raiders fans!!!! thats pretty cool

  • thanks for the Love Packers Fan, seems like the NFL keeps wantin to ripoff the Oakland

  • make that 2 more, jim plunkett isn't in the HOF either.

  • Great video!!!! Too bad the Raiders lost the next week to the Broncos 21 to 17 in the AFC Championship game, all due a bad call on a Denver fumble near the goal line! This Raiders team would have matched up good with the Dallas Cowboys in the 78' Super Bowl.

  • Raiders baby and No one else!!!!
