That melody, that playing thank you, thank you Oscar Levant, thank you Keith Jarret. Oscar, you were a great wit, but would have made an even greater composer had you not allowed the Gershwins to intimidate you so.
i was at KJT's Seattle concert last week. they all got old...a little bit sad...but music is still so heart touching...Keith event joked around a little bit with audiences. he's getting soft when ages adds up.
I am a piano player and singer and evertime i think i am as deep into the zone as i can get i listen and look at mr Jarrett and realize i'm very shallow indeed!!!Depressing really to think that i will never attain such feeling and understanding. It's almost as if every single note is carefully thought out
I could listen to and watch Keith 24/7.... His touch and his timing is like no other....One of my all time favorites is "Over the Rainbow"... Thank you Mr. Jarrett for so much awesome stuff....
Probably the most perfect playing of this song....The tempo sets the romantic mood that is the song's motive. Great backup with the bass vio and drums. Very controlled....Keith is one of a kind......Finding beauty in delicate interpretations.
@Yangsen yes, you can find it on the Album "The Cure". A very diverse album, consisting of several Jazz-Standards and one rather "untypical" composition by Jarrett called "The Cure".

to me keith jarrett is one of the great pianists in history, and one of his major achievements was to break down the curse which is contained into the piano since it was created: an instrument which cannot be hugged, but that does require a profound sensibility and feeling to sound as it deserves... as keith did
@gasparmc that hug thing is actually a great metaphor. you cant directly get a butter smooth sound out of a piano, because its hammers hitting strings, you can hit a key as softly as you want theres still hammer in there. the softness has to come from kind of in between.. and keith jarrett is the grandmaster of exactly that
this is splendid!

I don't know why i feel it liek this,
but every standard tunes keith/gary/jack played
its like they taking lyric-related feeling of tunes so deeply
esp, keith ,its no wonder why he chose to play standard tunes alot in trio setting,
Lyric of each tunes makes him into playing
just my thought

@BeatBrenning they are called "Overtones" and can be heared all the time. It's nothing that he does. But Keith is a fabulous pianist.

@Anoush23
I know what overtones are, but I don't mean overtones.
I mean that feeling of letting tones passing by, thinking them but not play them.

Totally get what you mean. A lot of restraint, holding back, and carefully selecting all the right notes.
