The flags (current flags of regions that participated in the siege of Yorktown) were donated to us by the Yorktown Women's Club who purchased them for another celebration. During this season we had more recruits than we had flags, so we used everything. You'll also see the German flag (another country that didn't exist yet) to reflect our relationship with the Royal Deaux-Ponts. It should be obvious that we hold all participating nations/regions in the highest regard...
you wouldn't happen to sell a CD or have these tunes on Itunes or amazon by chance? Also will you be doing any more recent filming of the Fifes and Drums of Yorktown in the near future?
@Thereisalwaysmore From 2000-2007 we produced a Corps video annually that featured some of our
more interesting programs and venues. After I retired as Director in 2008, they discontinued that practice. The Corps did produce a CD with the US Air Force Heritage of America Band in 2006 entitled 'Heritage to Horizons'. You may be able to order a free copy from their web page.
@colemanbridge That sucks about no longer producing these videos on youtube. I believe It should be shared to everyone who cannot attend like me, so when you uploaded this vid. I got my first glimpse of the Fife and drum Corp. and I'm glad that I found you guys. It's too bad that the Corp doesn't continue what you started. I would and hope that sometime in the future I will be able to attend a live show of the Fifes and Drums of Yorktown. If I may ask where did you got those Uniforms?
The jackets were custom made by a local tailor, but the hats and small clothes can be ordered from Druids Oak and James Townsend and Company respectively. The Corps will be performing on the Fourth of July in Yorktown this year, but I expect that they will not make a production video. You should also see the performance from Ft. Ticonderoga that is in my video collection. That is one of the more popular shows.
why are some of the troops or should i say the "Fifes and Drum Squad" Tri-Con hat look more like a bi-con had. Which wasn't used or invented until in 1800s?
first off, they rnt piccolos. theres fifes. they tuned a Bb and also, the fife and drum style is much more interestion then DCI corps. i grew up around DCI and switched to this style years ago and its alot more enjoyable if your actually in it. so shut ur face
Originally the uniforms for the American soldiers were Blue with red facings and the musicians were red with blue facings, but I think that eventually the uniforms evolved into a single colour (probably as a cost-cutting measure), Field Musicians were supposed to wear the reverse colours of their regiment so that they could be identified as non-combatants in the field (you were not supposed to shoot at non-combatants such as musicians and medical staff).
O also ever see the movie sleepy hollow with johnny depp he was a Hessian. Your people also mine i come from German immigrants scared the shit of the yanks. When the Germans took the field there war cry's would scare the yanks off.
Hessians(from Hesse-Kasse - I think it is named, the region near Rhineland or something like that) fought for the British crown because of a contract between some German States and Britain(Hannover too I believe gave soldiers)
MO0nhawk89 there are more than german flags there, america has all sorts of ethnic mixes. regarding hessians, they fought as mercenaries for George 2 against Prince Charles Edward Stuarts Jacobities in 1745/46 and continued into the american wars of the time. germans, scots? hey! were all over the place, we are probably from the same ethnic group, my ancestors came to scotland courtousy of the vikings, via macedonia, germany, austria and all countries to the north.
The Yorktown Women's Club (the donors) identified all of the countries that contributed forces to the Seige of Yorktown (on either side) and obtained flags from those countries. Notably, several of the countries didn't exist at the time --- but the regions did. They chose to honor the region by displaying the flag of the country it would eventually become. Also, some of the flags they purchased were the modern representation rather than the historical one --- we still appreciated the gift.
i think the marching around would get annoying and i really dont know any songs that involve the drummers yelling out randomly. not trying to sound like an ass but seriously stay in one spot and play your music
A collection of international flags representing all of the nations who participated in the siege and surrender at Yorktown was recently donated to the Corps. Because we had started a particularly large recruit class that year, we needed to use every flag that we had so that all of the recruits could participate on the field --- thus the flag.
ah and a nother thing. you said the flags of all nations which fought at yorktown on which side did the germans fougt? on the british i think because england an prussia where allies or am i wrong? i see its a shame that we learn nearly nothing about the amarican revolutionary war over here in germany.
The English, the Prussians, and the Spanish were allies during the Napoleonic Wars. They fought against the French, the Swedes, the Austrians, and the Russians. Ironically, Napoleon Bonaparte was Prussian! :D

They're all tricon hats... Its just that the thickness of the wool in the Senior Corps hats creates a smoother fold on the fore head.

American soldiers whore Blue. There field music whore red. The brits whore red coats, and there field music whore blue coats.
yoyoyowasuppy 2 years ago
depends on the british regiment in question. if the regimental facing was green then they would wear green coats with red facings etc etc.
garythegit 2 years ago
Yes. They are in reverse colours, as all musicians were of their respected unit. The corp. is correctly dressed in their Regimentals.

I wasn't aware Corsica has been a Prussian island.
Gonnakillyou 3 years ago
It is not ironic because Napoleon was born in Corsica, France not Prussia.
Alexer566 2 years ago
Please read up before you make an uninformed comment like that. Indeed, he was born in Ajaccio, Corisca. However, he was Prussian.
Ouchthathurtslol 2 years ago
Saying he was Prussian does not make it so. Like Napoleon, his parents were also born in Corsica.
