  • I dreamed for years that I could play for her. Learned all the bass lines. I wonder....

  • That makes me kinda wish we'd have a show on TV that the over fifty group could get full behind and love the way the kids love Idol. This show would be different because it would showcase all the greats that are still alive and still doin' it of my generation and yes I'm 61 graduated high school in 1968 in the heat of it all. A lot went on before and a whole lot right after through the seventies. So much cool talent not all lost many are still playing and singing though on a limited basis.

  • Showing my age but was actually at that show, 1979 I think it was. Old Grey Test was a BBC television show in the 70's and 80's. It was in a tiny little studio with about 200 people crammed in to it but entrance was free. The show went out live and she was the closing act before it went off air but Ricky sang another three songs after the broad cast ended. Bloody hell, seems like yesterday!!

  • American Idol is a talent show, nothing more. Looking back, how clear it is that record executives know money not music.

  • Wonderful voice. The performance is also preeminently wonderful.

  • I wish I was there,I probably would'nt take my eye's off her,she'e amazing.Go Rickie.

  • She?? is so ugly and extremely low quality!

  • @2Bad829 How fuckin' shallow r u ??? Dik head

  • @2Bad829 ur a moron.

  • @2Bad829 Shallow ? Maybe just need glasses....was in about Row 5 for her 1979 show in Seattle and she was definitely very fine-looking indeed.

  • So little footage of this living legend. She is so beautiful and should be thought of as a treasure. See ya in Coolesville. What a band.

  • excellent and shes so fine.

  • thank you!!!

  • omg I am n tears makes me think of my mom and my childhood. I was raised on this womans music lol rip momma n thank God for such an awesome talented artist RICKIE LEE ROCKS!!!!!

  • I love this. I wish it was in better quality! But I will live with this....

  • rickie lee and tom wait came out of the same environment both brilliant musicians got all their stuff ...excellent band all session guys, yea pity about the recording ....love her to bits....x

  • Wow she would be huge if she came out today.

Imagine how .. amazing she was back then.

like to see this woman doing it like this again.

  • this band is going back on the road,

    part of it anyway,

    bass player and singer,

the drummer passed away and the guitar player is no where to be found.

see them in December, doing it old school style.

  • Too bad there isn't a better quality video of Ricky performing this terrific song. Her best ever.

  • This is rolling!

  • funwithFred and RubHerSoul..this is a 40 year old clip[. She's doing quite well in the average memory think tank fan base

  • exciting!

  • brutal, pana.

Maybe somebody can access better quality video of this.

Meanwhile, I'll play this twice a week, at least. Just for intense joy.

Million thanks, whoever record, keep and uploaded this. WOW.

  • she is unforgettable to me! love her

  • shes like tom waits little sister

  • love youngblood

    love rickie

love the music from that time

  • Insane... two of her best ever 'Young Blood' and 'Weasel and the White Boys Cool'. Not a great copy but utterly brilliant performance. Funky, streetwise, full of attitude and downtown wisdom...

  • Right now I think she`s the sexiest woman on this planet...

  • Man! She was such a cutie back then. At least she still has her voice and her talent intact. Just wish the fanfare would return. Goddamn American Idol ruins that for these legends.

  • great film and post. Good to see her staedy on her feet and kicking ass like only she ever can. An unsung music hero and legend.

  • She was banned from British TV after this because the cameras caught her smoking a joint in a break between sets.. We made up for it by buying most of her albums after this..

  • Jeez, where would you ever hear a band & music like this these days? Nowhere.

  • you are so right

  • You may want to check out Alana Davis. She's very good and very under rated. She is somewhat of a modern day version of this. I like them both!! There are some videos of her on the Tube here. I'd be curious to hear if you like her.

  • Just checked out Alana - excellent, thank you! I'm going to see Rickie in London on Nov 11th!

  • There used to be a fantastic version of Ghetto of My Mind on here from Rickie. It was from a Saturday Night Live musical guest spot. It was pulled for some reason. It was one of those nights where the whole band was "on". Everything just came together. Glad you liked Alana. Enjoy the show on the 11th!!

  • Thank you!

  • Rickie Lee is and was way ahead of her time. She should have been nurtured all the way by record companies. Too bad. She is still fucking one of the best and I hope no one forgets it. They should have marketed the hell out of her albums the fuck heads.

  • I couldn't agree more with you bro..She Rocks!

  • @funwithFred Can you believe this amazing performer with music running through her body like blood......unparallelled since!!!!!!

  • Waow ! Who said the 70's and 80's sucked ?? Damn great band, great Lady !

    Be Good...

  • Any decade is good. You just have to pick the right songs.

  • Actually, I tried...

  • Even the 70s, or 80s for that matter!

  • Her coolness, Rickie Lee! Just love her early albums, great performance here.

  • I would do anything to hear her cover of "Walk away Renee" again. I can't find a copy of it on youtube or anywhere, arrrgh.

  • "Walk Away Renee" is on "Girl At Her Volcano". Amazon have it (not cheap, but great album!).

  • this is brilliant! Rickie rocks! x

  • I remember watching this as a kid.. My big sisters were dancing in the living room and I was flicking a foot at 16.. I couldn't be seen as liking my sisters music, so I repressed it until I was 20-odd.. Through those hidden years I always taped my sisters LP's and cassettes and just wrote AC/DC or Led Zep on the label.. I suppose I might have been a closet Jonesian then.. I sooo love this woman esoterically.. If she was beside me right now, I'd honestly have a knicker repair bill to pay..

  • My friends and I listened to Rickie Lee Jones' first album over and over and over again during the Summer of 1979. There was no one at all like her back then. I hadn't thought about that record in 25 years, and then, just the other day, I remebered. At 24, she was already a very special vocalist, and there is not a weak song on her debut. What a talent! Thank you, so much, for posting this.

  • I would say the same for her album's "Pirates" and most especially "The Evening of My Best Day"!!

If you have'nt..., then perhaps you should! ;]

  • Thank you so much.

  • Go Ricky !

  • Echo Bassplayer's comments.... seem to recall she had done another session for Old Grey Whistle Test which included "Woody & Dutch" ...Love to see that one again.

  • Another song which just would not have been the same without Buzz Feiten's lovely rhythm guitar motif .. thats Buzz here of course

  • Thank you for posting this! -I've waited 28 years to see this again! I used to have it on cassette tape (before I owned a video). The quality's not great but it's still a fantastic treasure!
