Ooh those comedowns! That vid is the 90's version of Quadrophenia. About time someone made a good movie about those times, and I'm not talking about "Human Traffic" or "24 Hour party People". Something decent.
this band and this song signelled the end of the baggy era for me it was just too over produced and tried too hard and i hated it sorry to say that but i just hated it , i miss the 4 years leading up to it.
well how can i put this, we had the old FUP on every hotel balcony, before we left for the main mad resorts everywhere, grece, spain, turk all pinacle moments they were the last song before the last lad was ready. we will never stop playing the flowered up!
I'm in tears, when you rock and roll with me. No one else I'd rather be, nobody down here can do it for free. I'm in tears, I'm in tears, when you rock and roll with me.
My all time favourite track, an absolute classic. Took me years to get an original 12". Must have every comp album version as a result, and still play it on you tube! Its regularly the last song of the night at a madchester club night in Edinburgh that you guys sound like you'd like. Look it up.
@eldel69 I saw this on Nightime telly [ITV] in 1993 when working nights. Identified the track and the group courtesy of YouTube. Subsequently went out and bought album. I still watch it on here. This must have been Pink Floyd inspired - music sounds so consistent with their style - also awesome where the drugs obviously kick and everyone in the club has changed into little kids dancing.
Only saw the video once before, on MTV, not long after it came out. Sad it has taken the death of Liam Maher to jog my memory. Struck then and still am by the rather incongruous "David Gilmour" sound to a lot of the guitar work.
i was in the video for weekender - you can see me dancing around in a red gabicci top for all of 5 seconds. the video was shot in a studio up the top of ladbrooke grove. all the extras had been out the night before and to keep the buzz going we all started knocking back the jack and jills early on.
the film crew kept on turning the music of in between takes until all the club extras, by this time coming up heavily again, kicked off and made them keep the tunes on. in the vid there passing round a bottle of poppers and that was happening for real. i had a fantastic day out, made some proper club friends mark and paul, the 2 scousers, where are you now? even rave granny was there handing out the guarana. them was the days. god rest you liam - you made your mark on the world
I remember my sister had a version of It's On (Sonia) which was 10" and had the Flowered Up logo on the B Side. God knows where that is know but I daresay it'd be worth a fortune by now.
We were blessed in the early 90's. I was too young to go to the concerts as I was about 11-12 at the time but my sister and brother were into the whole Indie scene (Flowered Up, Ride, Happy Mondays etc). I managed to get to see all of them in the end (I saw Inspiral Carpets only last year for the frist time and it was like stepping back in time, utterly amazing).
I just wish I could've seen The Stone Roses and The Smiths as well :-(
Never saw the Stone Roses, but I was lucky to see The Smiths!! The best out of the lot live though, had to be The Charletans. Mind blowing gig. Very hypnotic with lots of long organ/guitar solos!! I think music died soon after. I've not heard much decent stuff since about '96!!!!
Don't tell me you were incredibly lucky to see them play 'How Soon Is Now?'? If so I'm totally green with envy!!
The Charlatans are brilliant. Managed to see them in the London Docklands Arena about 13 years ago (we passed the main singer from Ash at the time but I didn't have a clue who he was).
I'm afraid so, amoungst other greats!! I saw the Charlatans in '89 Just before 'The Only One I Know' hit the charts. Really was the best gig I've ever been too. Kind of reminisent of The Doors at their finest, except for a different vocal style! Two bands I would of loved to have seen were the Teardrop Explodes/Julian Cope and Joy Division.
I know wot you mean. I saw the Roses in 95, at Brighton Centre, I think it was. Reni had left so it wasn't the classic line up, but it was still the Roses. These days it always seems to me you hear someone rave over a new band and then have a listen and they're crap!
My god I am addicted to this band. I have the Glastonbury CD set and the greatest hits repackage with this, was there ever a pressing of this particular version? It's significantly different, and I want it.
...the end of part 1 and beginning of part 2 is my fave part. The trumpets signify Result and the Euphoria to come.....brilliant. Being a northerner I can still classify this as one of my fave cross-over tunes!!!!!
33 now and only ever caught the end on tele smoking a fat one with a mate at the time. man i fucking loved it, it captured everything about that time and place i mean everything fucking genius where the fuck am i rave on!
I am 32 in october and it is fucking dog poo. They can take all that mail and that franking machine and stick it right up there arses. Although in my case it's the menus globals and mandolins and if there is room the robot coupe
Does anyone know what the tune is thats kicking in at the end credits of the video...i reckon its either a remix of weekender or dont fight it feel it remix by primal scream..been bugging me for years that one..top tune and video love it.
You get full credits after this, it's a Weatherall production just for end credits, not sure it was actually released and yeah, obviously had the Don't Fight It Feel It samples still lying about.
Only bought this Record because of the Sleeve, The Punky Girl in the Tescos Shopping Bag ! But when i got home , chucked it in the cd player & Put me Headphones on!............ Fuck Me! i was Blown away! still get the cd out now & again, must be 16 years old now!...SSSSSSSUUUUUUUPPPPPPPPEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRBBBBBB !
Defined a classic era. Indie, Mod, Acid House, summed up my life in 92! Untouchable tune and vid. Well done to all involved for having the balls to do it and do it spot-on! Respect!
Me too mate, me too, apart from the relationship being shitty. I think myself lucky that me bird puts up with being lumbered with a fucking coke head for a boyfriend! would really like to chat, cause i am out of control! Really! How about it?
