@tumak1966 Please accept my sincere condolences towards this heartache you've lived with. God bless you. O Blessed Mother, Comforter of the afflicted - pray for us.
325 A.D. = Council of Nicea = the beginning of Catholic Church Cannon and Doctrinal Law. However, do not confuse how men & organizations behave with what the Truth is. Look at the Inquisition & how Catholocism was forced on Native Peoples of Americas, by torture & other horrific means. But just because man behaves badly, and is a poor representative of Jesus Christ, do not throw away Jesus Christ. There has never been anyone like Him in all of Creation.
I have asked the Christians for years and years, I have even asked the militant Catholics and their priests: "What happened in the year 325AD"? And they are unable to answer yet they go crazy if anyone tells them that Christianity was a fabrication for power and politics, just like the towel heads religions. How can you defend something that you are ignorant about its origins?
That fabrication was planned and imposed on the ignorant, illiterate European peasants for a reason. Unfortunately it spread to the Americas by the Spaniards and the ignorant Europeans. That Bernadete was a prime example and exactly the kind of person the Catholics were/are still preying on. Then they spread this nonsense to the middle east by force and the towel heads have a chip on their shoulders to this very day. Relax, I'm not jewish, just a very well read and discerning individual.
That rabbi Yeshua is NOT God nor the Messiah. God is the Creator of all things, omnipotent, omnipresent, the original, he/she doesn't need mouthpieces and no human is/was or could be a saint, that's offensive to the God, the original, the Creator of all things. Still, there are 2 billion ignorants who believe in that fabrication that they themselves ignore the origin and are unable to debate with me.
@MATAIFO49 No, 'cause she's named after the town. Anyways, I be itchin to drink summa dat Lourdes water. How can I get it? Do I still have to wait in line at the grotto in Lourdes?
Several years ago, while attending a graduation ceremony at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, I met Jennifer Jones and her then husband, Norton Simon. I must say, it was one of the most overwhelming events of my life, even as a pro athelte, few moments compared to that day. She was so lovely and gracious. I can still feel the gloved handshake from that day and the chill joy I felt on that warm lovely day. They were amazed that a young African American was so honored, I am sure. RIP ma'am.
I'm neither religious nor a militant atheist, but the scene in which Bernadette first sees the vision scared the life out of me as a small child! Interesting to see it again. Thanks for posting.
Jennifer Jones won the Oscar competing with Joan Fontaine, Ingrid Bergman, Jean Arthur ( who should have won for her magnficent The More The Merrier). Miss Jones is superb and very moving in this great film. A special film honoring a true Saint. Henry King directed this great film.
David Selzinck promoted his protegee Jennifer Jones who was Catholic to essay the role of Bernadatte, and Daryl Zanuck's mistress at the time the beautiful Linda Darnell plays the Virgin Mary. Ah Hollywood
angelamwatts - thanx 4 posting! What a GREAT movie. Gladys Cooper (Dec. 18 1888 Nov. 17 1971, died from pneumonia at age 82) was AWESOME. Nobody could've played that scene in the chapel better than Ms. Cooper. She played it PERFECT! Ms. Jones (born March 2, 1919) died of natural causes at her home on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, aged 90. May these 2 great ladies RIP.
This movie as well as the story of t. Bernadette has lways been so dear to me. I close Bernadette as my confirmation name and I have remained, as she was, devoted to Our Lady and the Rosary. This movie was moninated for 12 Oscars and won four (as well as three Golden Globes). What are the odds that would happen these days?
@Juliaflo who was the actress who cried when she saw Bernadette not because of the movie; but because she knew she herself would not get the academy award but that Jennifer Jones' acting Jennifer would and did get the academy award!
So are people still drinking from the holy Lourdes fountain or what?

@MATAIFO49 Not as privileged as Madonna's daughter named Lourdes, though.

@hoibsh Why? Cause her mother's famous? I couldn't care less. We're just as equal through the eyes of God.

Lest you would like to know, this year marks the sesquicentennial of the vision seen by the real Bernadette Soubirous (sp?).
Oh, yes, this portrayal of Bernadette resulted in an Best Actress Academy Award for Jennifer Jones (nee Phyllis Isley).
