  • Awesome piece of movie history

  • I want to join the 501st and be an at at pilot. one of my fav costume designs

  • wow, im not a fan at all of starwars, but when i saw this video on my suggested box i had to look. real originals? thats an epic item no matter what movie its from.

this being from starwars just makes it that much cooler (im not a fan but i appreciate how it changed the movie business)

  • i bet the second helmet thats missing is either in a garbage dump or it was sold or mabye even in an ally where a hohbo shits in it you never no

  • Awesome video Jez! Those canisters on the back of that helmet confuse me though :) It looks as though they have been switched perhaps as well as having more vinyl / electrical tape added to them because they aren't the same as they were in the movie.

  • @FarAwayCreations I dont think the cansters themselves were switched as theyre screwed on really tightly (although it is possible). However IMO more likely they just changed their appearance with elctrical tape etc. Plus we know that 2 helmets were made so they probably swaped the helmets around for the 2 different cockpit scenes (filmed in the same mockup cockpit of course)

  • @PanzerGrenadierYuri search carefully,thats doubtless imperial march.

  • @PanzerGrenadierYuri It's Imperial March by John Williams...

  • @PanzerGrenadierYuri you are waching star war review and YOU DON'T KNOW?!

  • Also, great video. Thanks.

  • Could it be that , instead of the supposed 4 pilots, there were in fact only meant to be the same two onscreen? Each set of two pilots appears with the same commander, General Veers, in what must be the same cabin. We only ever see one ATAT commander so could the stripes and their subsequent absence be a continuity error?

  • Thanks Jez for a great vid of a beautyful helmet!

  • Wow. Been a Star wars fan since the late 70's. At-at driver was my favorite as a kid. The imperials just had cooler uniforms, LOL. As a long time fan, this has been one of the most interesting Star Wars videos I have ever seen. Thank you for making it.

  • whats really great about these videos is that not only does he give a review, he actually gives you a little history, I like, I like!

  • @doctorwhocollector1 Just to differenciate between the 2 cockpit scenes. Basically they wanted it to look like they had more so they shot one scene for one cockpit - added a bit of detailing to the helmet and then shot again. However from a continuity perspective you can see that they mixed the footage up when editing.

  • but.. was the armor grey or white ??+ becouse in the pictures it looks like the helmet and armor are the same collor ??

  • @zirro93 Both were grey - they just looked white in the photos as they were over-exposed against the background. However if you watch the movie now in HD you'll say "yeah grey"

  • Its sad to see all this great uniform begin to Disappear.

  • @killergmachine Not at all- since the costumes have a great value, collectors are looking well after them. However we've never found any of the other parts (like body suit etc) so preume this was ditched in 1979 after filming.:(

  • 10,000$? 5,000?

  • @xPo1S0nXs0DaX For an original? No lots more than that.

  • @BingoBongo275 Great post. I was wondering, any luck on finding a Snowtrooper Helmet?

  • @mattdawg83686 unfortunately not although IMO they werent made too well so may not have survved. LFL has at least one their archive though...

  • @xPo1S0nXs0DaX Given market conditions IMO a lot more than that.

  • I was thinking they'd be pretty expensive. Do you know where I could get any good replicas?

  • oh i just read that comment, do you have any originals?

  • @sketchingpencils unfortunately theyre a little out my price range!

  • @ @

  • @sketchingpencils LOL - Nice one!

  • @BingoBongo275 Yeah how did you get all of these helmets? Are they replicas or are they from the movies?

  • @sketchingpencils The one in this video is an original, used in ESB. However the ones I have in my personal cllection are only replicas :(

  • u said at at its a-t a-t

  • @lolz11374265 actually its at-at

  • Wow amazing vid the AT AT was always my fav helmet thanks for posting

  • How creative filmmakers can be when saving money....

  • Thankyou, what a great video. The AT-AT driver was my first starwars figure when i was 4 years old and that image used on the card has an enduring place in my mind. I was very young and although starwars had obviously captured my imagination it was still a very new and strange world to me, this picture sums up all those feelings. How fascinating that this helmet is the one in the picture. thanks again.

  • @bwing77 - my pleasure thanks. I too have always loved the AT-AT

  • There is one of them helmets here in Sweden. It was for sale once, about 1- 1½ half year ago..

  • @TechnicalFreak - it was a replica, not an original :)

  • Great video Jamie!!

  • @41Bobafett

Thanks - and its Jez BTW :)

  • I have heard the word Greeblies used in modelmaking for the past 20+ years that I have been involved in it.

Jez I continue to return to this video to update my own helmet to correct spec. Maybe one day i will go to all grey amor, but since I am 'twinned" with another identical TA that i set up here in the Garrison its all or nothing.

    Looking forward to more features!

    TA-4019

  • Thank - just working on the review for an original screen-used Biker/Scout Trooper helmet from RotJ as we speak!

    Cheers

    Jez

  • dont say AT AT A-T-A-T sounds more bad ass

  • @Sirhcislo thats how you say it to dont why ppl say it like at at.

  • i don't really care what they are called tie pilot shadow trooper they both seem apropriate

  • see blow - TIE PLiot and Shadow troopers are 2 different characters with different costumes.

  • Dude seriously awesome your voice is very relaxing :)

I don't want to know what screen used helmets set you back though !

  • One of my fav's along side the Death Star Gunner's Helmet!!!

  • @boshek71

Would love to review a DS gunner but don't know if anyone's got one. One was sold at Christies about 8 yeas ago and thats the only one I know of.....

  • @BingoBongo275 Thanks for reply and thanks for info,i'd love to have been a fly on the wall at Christies that day, have you any ideas how much it sold for?Cheers......Jamie

  • @boshek71 That was one of the oddest helmets any Imp ever had to wear in SW! How the hell could the gunner see out of that thing?

  • The TIE Fighter driver is called a Shadow Trooper.

  • lol no they aren't XD Shadow Troopers are a gunmetal/black colored Stormtrooper.

Black Hole Troopers/Novatroopers are all black. TIE Fighter Pilots are just called TIE Pilots.

  • A Shadow Trooper is a black stormtrooper, NOT a TIE pilot.

  • No theyre not.

The shadow troopers and TIE Pilots are different. Shadows are "Expanded Universe" characters which are basically black stormtroopers. TIE Pliots were used in the Original Trilogy and only have helmet sna body armour. The helmets, thouh similar to Stormtroopers are not the same since the back section is totally different (theyre basically X-Wing helmets added to stormtrooper faceplates)

    Cheers

    jez

  • Greeblies?

Did you just make that word up???

  • its old english for "attachments for ones helmet of the head that allows bountiful amounts of uber-detailing"

    Cheers

    Jez

  • Finaly!!! Another person who pronounces it AT AT!!! Instead of A-T-A-T

  • I say AT AT too. lots of people say A-T A-T.

  • so where did you get the helmets and how much would they be worth?

  • Cheers for posting this! Won't the ABS plastic become brittle after all these years?

  • Thanks for showing the interior of the helmet as well. I hope you'll include more interior images in your videos and on your site in the future. Great work!

  • Great video ! The star wars marketing company should really take in mind the real color of the at-at driver !!!

  • Thanks for this, highly informative. Enjoyed the one on the Tie bucket as well.

  • With all the hoo-ha and hollowness of the current state of star wars, its great to go back and get a feel for the real thing.

  • The other one was stolen in a house burglary ? Probably George stealing it back for his collection. Aren't these mostly stolen from Lucasfilm by employees anyway. Enough of that rubbish though. What a great video professionally presented good job.

  • Great! very informative

  • It's been a treasure to find videos like this on YouTube. Keep up the great work. Seeing this piece close up and personal gave me both chills and a fantastic resurgence of admiration for the filmmakers. Empire is a perfect example of efficient details creating depth in the fictional world when the reality of the props are not nearly as elegant as the film paints them to be. They were able to get away with so much, and it's brilliant. This is a great piece of history.

  • Thank You!

  • Awsome video!!!!!

  • Im not sure but isn't it pronouced A-T A-T istead of AT AT?

  • LOL you may be right but ever since Ive been a kid we always referred to it as an "at at" (like "ack ack gun" I suppose)

  • Very impressive research! I very much enjoyed this video!

  • Thanks for the kind comments guys!

  • what the--- how many real movie helmets are you gonna manage on getting?!

btw, i liked the rewiew, im favoriting it like the other one.

    and five starz.

  • Wait so this helmet was actually used in the real films?

  • Yes -it was actually used in the film.

  • Wow, that's awesome! Thanks for reply.

  • You have done it again Jez!! Fantastic job keep it up . Some people like paintings and statues etc I think all of these Star Wars helmets and costumes are PURE ART.

  • Jez,

Fantastic video review of the AT AT helmet. Thank you so much to you and the owner. Keep the vids coming.

  • Very nicely done review, Jez. Professional quality composition and voice-over. :-) You also provide a lot of intriguing information about this famous helmet. So it was stuffed into a box and left alone for over 30 years? Amazing... you'd think that whoever owned it would have, upon seeing the popularity of Star Wars culture, have taken it out and put it on display in their home. :-) Anyway, this may be one of the most valued of original helmets. Excellent find!

  • huh. what a fun helmet. QUITE the insteresting history.

  • Thanks for this review,I really likes this videos great work. Whats up next?.

  • Thanks again guys!

I'm just trying to get an owner to agree to let me review his prized posession!

    Cheers

    Jez

  • Jez, absolutely exceptional review. Outstanding work!

  • Great job! Thanks for posting this. I hope 30 years from now it will continue to be in the same condition. What an awesome piece of film history.

  • Great Job Jez!!!!

  • Thanks for posting this jez. All the while I thought this helmet was in the safe confines of the LFL Archives until I heard your narrative...

  • Top notch as usual jez. wd

  • Are there no holes in the frown?

  • Thanks for all the kind comments Guys!

No holes in frown - just like the TIE's. Only the Stormtroopers had the frowns cut out

    Cheers

    Jez

  • Oh I didnt know that. Pilots/drivers didnt run around like the troopers and the need for ventilation wasnt as big I guess. Thanks!

  • Great work there Jez!!!

A must see for anyone interested in Starwars prop design!!!

    Cheers

  • Jez thanks again, these are a real pleasure to watch

  • wohoo good to hear from you again

  • Always fantastic Jez. Thanks
