Tang Band 1772 looks nice on paper and sounds great here. I bought an 8" fullrange from Lafayette Radio back around 1971 and put it in a Karlson enclosure and it sounded like crap. The problem may have been that the speaker had the wrong Qts, it was really forward with no bass. Those wings on the enclosure absolutely have to introduce hollow coloration due to cavity resonance. I think an open baffle is the way to go.
