  • The airport lounge. Smoking is verbotten.

  • ...I'm staring right into the light and I'm drawn in, like a moth...And I'm flying north, again tonight.

    Yes.

  • The poles are tethers we were born in!

  • Probably not heard this in about 25 years. Was the B side of Windpower and when I only had about 10 singles I used to listen to both sides of the records over and over and over.

I like the chugging analogue sequencers...used to remind me of the crappy old Leyland buses that vibrated like mad when they were stopped in traffic.

    Nice title as well.

  • A record bought at a thrift store for 25 cents and I have found my new favorite song.

There really should be more views for this song.

  • I think we should go for the tapa bar.

  • I first heard this album in my first apartment in 1981 or 82. My little brother let me borrow it. I was hooked. And now I am listening to Dolby as if fresh again. It is so beautiful and poetic, lyrically. But musically, it is a feast. Very 80's, yes, but don't let that dissuade anyone from listening. He can be a bit conceited. But he has earned that, from my point of view!

  • I saw Dolby in Dallas in the mid 80s. It was one of the most incredible shows I have ever attended. Small hall, maybe seating 2-3K. He had a big band, with backup singers, full rhythm section, horns, around 15-16 players in all.

I have listened to his music ever since, and that's over 25 years of durability. His compositions are complex and haunting.

  • I never got into any other of Thomas Dolby albums I heard the one in a record store when it came out when we still had records and fell in love with the whole album! I like the extended maxi single of this song it's longer and has a instrumental in the middle. I was a freshman in high school when this album came out. Now I am 43 and still love this album I have it on vinyl and cd including the maxi record with 6 extended versions on it. thanks for posting this brings back many memories!

  • His live shows are really good. The Aliens Ate My Buick was funky given his supporting band. He really had fun in that show. During his last show in Toronto, he brought three members of the Jazz Mafia, a San Francisco ensemble. Hyperactive and Airhead sounded incredible with the jazz trio. I mean, really, really good. I don't particularly like those songs but they were excellent during this concert. He didn't play Flying Nord though.

  • I don't understand how an artist of his stature only made it big with Blinded my with Science and Hyperactive, he has so many other great songs.. he must have been quite a treat to experience live :)

  • it's so beautiful and complex

pure elation and innocence at the same time

    almost feel like crying

  • This was in my headphones on a family drive thru British Columbia Summer 1986.

Great memories, great tune. I also listened to "Tour de France" and "release

    yourself." Brill tape, Erica!

  • great song

  • Excellent video.

    I've always loved this song.

It reminds me of some of Glen Gould's philosophy about "the north."
