if you wire them both up it would heat to kick off then kick the air conditioner on then cool down then heat again the cool again you got the heat and cooling backward you said heat for cooling and cooling for heating (lol)
Weird stat, thats for sure. I think the trane weathertron auto changeovers were better:) My style of unit and the other style up here has the auto changeover. However, we don't need heat here, and they still installed HP's!
@airconguy1 I am told that stat was intended for use with a type of zone system. Heat may not be needed where you live but it's probably required by building codes for habitability. I like the auto changeover thermostats. I'll never go back to the cheap ones.
@PutSome5tankOnIt Me too:) I have no idea why the building code would specify heat pumps. This place NEVER gets below 50F during the day, and only rarely during the night. Most nights are around 50-60, but provided you don't have every window W I D E open, it stays around 70, which is what the US people that used to live here did...
@AVTreasures Glad you're enjoying it. I've thought of gathering up some of the old stuff I've found over the years and narrating a little video of it all.
Trying to remember if I have ever run across one of those or not! Know for sure I've replaced a number of old 2 wire t-stats though, very interesting! Thanks for the goodies!! :>
@Nutintoitbut2doit I don't pay much attention to t-stats at Home Depot. Maybe I should!
I collected a few thermostats over the years while doing add-on. I collected some cool stuff from the bottoms of floor heaters, too You do retrofit so you know what I'm talking about..
@PutSome5tankOnIt Yea I still change out floor heaters to, and you never know what you will find lol. The old stuff I have is in bad shape not near as good as your stuff. Nice video 5tank
@Nutintoitbut2doit I've found old coins and jewelry. I have a very small collection of silver US coins and some foreign stuff. My pride and joy is a US 1943 steel penny.
@PutSome5tankOnIt Thats cool I have not found anything cool like that. I did find a dollar bill it was worth a buck lol. The old cast iron ones I make bank on at the scrap yard. I will have to check the change out a little better.
@Nutintoitbut2doit I won't be making bank on any coins (domestic or otherwise) that I've found. The WWII-era stuff is my favorite, though. I'm a bit of a history geek, I guess.
itts an auto change over? Jump the RV to yellow or white. Probably for a OEM t-stat for a heat pump. right? or i'm I missing something? I wonder how you would adjust the deadband...
I would have guessed it was a temporary construction stat !!! LOL ... But I ate LEAD PAINT as a child !!! LOL ... Leave it to brother Dallas !!! Gets 2nd vote from me in a great series of videos !!! Keep up the great work !!!
Nice series of video! That T87F is a customer heating only t-stat sold by the big box stores. On the professional side it is called the T87F3715 and it is used for zoning application. It is a three wire spdt single set point t-stat used to control any two position damper. The damper actuator would wire 1-2 24v and 4/5/6 to t-stat.
@dizziedallas Thanks for that info. I had no idea it was designed for zoning. I dunno about it being heat-only on the consumer side. A 'Y' terminal is provided. My guess is that it was marketed for multiple applications. Shame on Honeywell for trusting a homeowner to know the subtleties of low voltage wiring in HVAC systems.
@V8Jagnut I'd recommend this stat for heating only. No fan switch for separate control of the indoor fan. I'm not a snob when it comes to my HVAC, but I went digital 15 years ago and I'm not turning back.
The C is for Consumer, that was a model sold in Home Depot or similar. when the T87 was still on the Honeywell site, they did make a cooling or heating subbase for it I recall. Actually some time ago I put in a LARGE number T87 for my grandma and it came with a cool or heat subbase.
I'm sure alot of clueless homeowners bought that model and put it on there heat/cool system and then had everything going haywire. lol
@gusherb94 I rarely cruised the thermostat aisle at Home Depot. I remember having to specify a heating/cooling (Q539A) or cooling-only subbase at any HVAC supply house when buying a T87 for a system that wasn't heat-only. It's rare to see a cooling stat without a fan switch.
@eggman9713 Yup. It is intended for Heating -OR- Cooling. Not both. I'm surprised that Honeywell allowed for their customers to make that distinction. We all know how stupid HVAC guys can be. That thermostat sat in my bin for ten years before I realized exactly what it was capable of. I am the least intelligent HVAC guy out there.

So basically this thing has no "deadband". There is no way to have a "no-call" situation with this thing.
