You know I've been seeing all these comments bashing the dub. Honestly if you don't like it don't watch it. Stick to the japanese. Here's a secret.. The japanese company who owns Higurashi picked the english actors and told them how they wanted the characters to sound. Honestly the acting isn't bad.
It's funny seeing Keichi get owned at cards and the girls tease him about it. I also found the scene where Rena spoke to Keichi about hiding secrets from each other to be a bit chilling but interesting. It was especially interesting to see Rena shout out "You're lying!" to Keichi so loud that it scared the birds out of a tree.....
Club activities scene was good. Satoko kinda sucks. Mion's dub does a good job of preserving the character. Ooishi sucks. Tomitake is weird, but isn't too bad.
Well, I will say that i'm sure it's hard to sound all...silly like they all do without sounding like a dumbass, these actors do okay in the serious scenes (except Keiichi and Satoko) but I would still stick with the japanese version......
@KariWhitee Not the best dub EVER, in my opinion - but the accents just make me giggle so it's all good. This... this... I apologize, I simply cannot agree with you. Do watch The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Fruits Basket dubs; those are the best, in my opinion.

I seen alot of dubs before and virtually all of them turned out good or had atleast one or two voices out of place but this is bad but atleast its in a language i could speak and i dont have to read during the damn action, i wanna watch a show not read a book and if its not dubbed i feel like it.

I didn't think about Rika's voice actor too much. It would be better to tone down the age factor in the voice on her... or it kind of deters from the shock of later scenes... *cough*
Oh dear...why'd this dub have to suck so bad? Rika sounds too old, and Satoko doesn't even have that cool raspy voice she has, which makes her laugh awesome. Usually dubs are at least okay, but Higurashi was completely killed! XP no offense to anyone who actually enjoys the dub
I've always defended anime dubs, because most of them are actually surprisingly good. But this dub flat out sucks. Aside from flat performances and mismatched casting, there's just NO WAY I can ever forgive Geneon for giving my Rena the WORST dub voice of ALL TIME!!! Hell, most of the fandubs on Youtube are dubbed better than this!!! Kinda shocking considering Geneon dubbed ROD the TV and Paranoia Agent, which were two pretty good dubs.
Hmmm, I expected better from Geneon. I've liked a few of their dubs in the past, but this one seems very stiff and not natural. I recognize a few of these voice actors from other anime I've seen and I know they're capable of doing better than this.
Ok seriously. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who actually likes the dub. None of the voices are that bad. Imo, Keiichi, Ooichi, Mion, and Rika all sound better in english. Rena is tolerable after awhile and Satoko...well ok yeah hers is bad. Also the translations are perfectly fine from what I can see. It sounds just like any of the other dubs out there, and if it's at al bad, it's probably about as bad as Code Geass's dub.
Code Geass was good...here's the thing about this dub. I can't pay attention to the voices because the acting is so terrible. It feels so incredibly stiff. Only a couple of them sound natural.
Then apparently I'm the only person alive who thinks differently. imo (I'm certain to get thumbs down for this) the japanese version kinda sucks. Keiichi has no emotion, Rena doesn't sound that much different from english rena, I changed my mind about Rika, she's better in japaneese than english. Mion sucks in japanese. Woah really? I know Rika is chaotzu from dbz and nunally from code geass. Keiichi is Kenta in CG, Izuru from bleach, and Akamine from Ghost in the Shell.
Yeah. Kyle Hebert does the voice of Tomitake in the dub, as well as teenage Gohan and Kamina. He's done a few more things, but those are the ones that I remember the most.
Everyone sounds kinda stiff and wooden. I havent seen the original so i dunno how good it compares. But as far as acting goes, its kind of average/bad.

well if of course you watch dubbed anime, the person who does Rika's voice has been in Robotech: the Macross saga, 3x3 eyes, Rozen Maiden, Hand maid May and notable one of the Tachikoma in GiTS. Oh and Konota Izumi's mum from ep 22 of Lucky Star. theres others that are minor roles though i doubt you'd take much notice of those ones
HUh? No, I've watched the entire series. In Japanese _and_ the first four eps in english. I really dislike the english dub, but I'm a huge higurashi fan. I am upset that they did such a bad job on the dub acting, but its mostly Keiichi's voice that irks me.
Why do people hate dubs so much? They're simply too used to Japanese audio. The dub is pretty good- and this is coming from one of Japanese-Rena-Laugh's hardcore fans. Rena could have used some more training though, but she still does her justice. It's just me though.
in the sub version of that scene at the end, Keiichi says you're a fucking liar mion! Too bad he doesn't say that in the dub. That would've been so cool! I still like the dub though.

It depends if you watched the official Subs, Ayu Subs or the other group who's name i can't place, i think it was like Shisen... ANYWAY Shisen/Whoever said Old Geezer, while Ayu and the Official subs said Old Maid. I was stuck watching the two because Ayu was originally taking a little while to release. Ayu's are WAY better

Is that true? That'd be a relief ^^; But I read on ANN it's being released on September 30 and I haven't heard anything about a FUNi cast list, so I have some doubt.
Actually, they realized that it would cause them to lose more money than they would gain. Geneon made them by the rights for Higurashi and other series at a high price, so that plus the money it would cost to find new, quality voice actors would be too much. So they are re-releasing the first three discs with the SAME voice actors, and then releasing the next planned three.
And, if I were them, I'd try and see if I was able to release the discs arc-by-arc instead of five episodes a disc. That would release five discs instead of six, but whatever. It might cause problems later if they do Kai with an eight-episode and eleven-episode arc. @.@

Status: Failed - I prefer dubs so I don't have to read, but getting annoyed by the acting company's belief that the average young woman sounds like Minnie Mouse, and that the male lead is a dragon-slaying surfer.

As most dubs, its horrible. The laughing wasn't believeable at all. Not only that, the girls voices don't change when they are in their evil state.
Riku is supposed sound sweet and cute. Satoko is supposed to have mischief in her voice. Kei sounds like a nice guy that can't get mad. None were executed well.
But what can you expect from a dub? The dialouge can't be as great as japanese.
Rika also ( SPOILERS) is suppose to have a deeper, less sweet voice as well. If you've seen Kai, you should know why. I think they purposefully chose a voice actress who can pull off both for future planning.
It was the official dub but after Geneon died the series was suspended after about half of it was dubbed. Funimation's picked it up now but I don't know if they're gonna change the voices at all.
Why is it so hard to find good male leads in English dubs for small-time anime?
Ah, well... I guess we can't clone Vic Mignognas, Crispin Freemans and Chris Pattons yet.

Yeah. Kyle Hebert does the voice of Tomitake in the dub, as well as teenage Gohan and Kamina. He's done a few more things, but those are the ones that I remember the most.

im not liking the dub. ive watched the first two seasons in japanese so it is a bit biased. it's ok except Keiichi's voice actor sounds really inexplerienced and his voice is just annoying. Rika's voice sounds familliar. who's voices has that actor done?

well if of course you watch dubbed anime, the person who does Rika's voice has been in Robotech: the Macross saga, 3x3 eyes, Rozen Maiden, Hand maid May and notable one of the Tachikoma in GiTS. Oh and Konota Izumi's mum from ep 22 of Lucky Star. theres others that are minor roles though i doubt you'd take much notice of those ones

HUh? No, I've watched the entire series. In Japanese _and_ the first four eps in english. I really dislike the english dub, but I'm a huge higurashi fan. I am upset that they did such a bad job on the dub acting, but its mostly Keiichi's voice that irks me.

Why do people hate dubs so much? They're simply too used to Japanese audio. The dub is pretty good- and this is coming from one of Japanese-Rena-Laugh's hardcore fans. Rena could have used some more training though, but she still does her justice. It's just me though.

I hate it when English voice actors try and say things in Japanese. Names and places fair enough but I draw the line there.
It's like the dub of Tenjho Tenge were Aya keeps refering to Nagi as Soichiro-sama. It just sounds wrong.
I like Rika's english voice and Nippah is an important part of her but it'd just sound stupid in english.

It depends if you watched the official Subs, Ayu Subs or the other group who's name i can't place, i think it was like Shisen... ANYWAY Shisen/Whoever said Old Geezer, while Ayu and the Official subs said Old Maid. I was stuck watching the two because Ayu was originally taking a little while to release. Ayu's are WAY better

Yeah Japanese end of story. Now they kept most of the dialog some what in tact though the voices don't match it kinda ruins the mood. Espeically key characters like Keiichi and Rika and Rena. Mion is the only one that is good and sounds as close a dub can get to japanese. Satoko. . . I thought she was good though they change her Ohohohoho to Ohahaha? Umm. . . No thanks though I guess I will give it a okay? At least for a dub.

Actually, they realized that it would cause them to lose more money than they would gain. Geneon made them by the rights for Higurashi and other series at a high price, so that plus the money it would cost to find new, quality voice actors would be too much. So they are re-releasing the first three discs with the SAME voice actors, and then releasing the next planned three.

And, if I were them, I'd try and see if I was able to release the discs arc-by-arc instead of five episodes a disc. That would release five discs instead of six, but whatever. It might cause problems later if they do Kai with an eight-episode and eleven-episode arc. @.@

As most dubs, its horrible. The laughing wasn't believeable at all. Not only that, the girls voices don't change when they are in their evil state.
Riku is supposed sound sweet and cute. Satoko is supposed to have mischief in her voice. Kei sounds like a nice guy that can't get mad. None were executed well.
But what can you expect from a dub? The dialouge can't be as great as japanese.

Rika also ( SPOILERS) is suppose to have a deeper, less sweet voice as well. If you've seen Kai, you should know why. I think they purposefully chose a voice actress who can pull off both for future planning.

8) Satoko and Rika sound exactly the same. Satoko's is supposed to have a very distinct voice.

It was the official dub but after Geneon died the series was suspended after about half of it was dubbed. Funimation's picked it up now but I don't know if they're gonna change the voices at all.
