Get screening that's made for coyote and deer protection. Not chicken wire. One of my cats got a bird today. Fortunately I was able to chase the cat away from the bird and the bird escaped. I found that a cat or raccoon had pulled the wire apart so there was an opening large enough for a small kitten or a bird to crawl through. Anyway I have to check the openings every day now. So get the wire that's set up for protection against coyotes and deer.
Thank you so much! If you would like to see some great cat furniture, look at Feline Furniture here. I bought two really cool cat shelters from Steve, the owner. This is my second cat enclosure. I already had one at my last house which I sadly left to another cat lover. I had this concept in my head for many years but was unable to do it because I always lived in condos.
I thought last winter of bringing a cat box inside when it got really cold, but I discovered the cats sitting outside, enjoying the enclosure even during that really cold time. But in Colorado you might want to bring in the cat boxes for a few months. My cats love sitting up high, checking out the birds. All the perches inside were from the thrift store or recycled wood that my handman used (that's the two-level perch at the lower right and the two shelves in back by the door).
Thanks so much for your comments. There is a plastic roof, so the cat boxes are outside in all kinds of weather. The roof does tend to leak where the screws hold down the roof, but I put plastic pails under those areas which are in the center. The boxes are nowhere the leaks. It is worth the time and expense just to get the cat litter boxes out of the house. Also the cat litter lasts much longer being exposed to outside air. My cats love having their own place. I love it too.

Oh wow! I have a similar idea to enclose my patio like this for my cats. mine are totally indoor cats and they deserve to be outside in the fresh air and be 100% safe from any predators (I live in colorado and there are many animals that look at cats and small dogs as appetizers ). places to climb are essential and putting the litter pans outside -purrrfect! (except when it rains). love your videos and thanks for posting :)
That's why you hire a handyman! If you have a deck with a roof, you're in business. Or if you have a doggy door, that will work too. My last home, I hired a carpenter to build a little house for the cats' kitty litter boxes. It had a door that would open to the outside. I fastened it shut with a lock. Something like that eventually pays for itself because your kitty litter lasts much longer exposed to outside air.
Please see Cat Enclosure #4. There you can see my two new cat shelves. They're located at the end of the cat enclosure. The cats love their new shelves.
Those are some happy cats. Its great to see any pet guardian care so much for their little family like you do. Its also a really beautiful enclosure with the wind chimes and decorations, haha notice you added a chair too. Rad stuff.
@underthemangotreee Thanks for your compliments. I have had two more shelves for the cats installed. I'll have to create another video! I love to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air. When I go out there, my cats stop and look at me as if to say, "What are you doing out here?" (They are very territorial.) Good thing I'm a lot larger than they are!
@WashfromCali Haha, yeah, it would be like stepping in a lion cage if we werent bigger than our cats. Its kind of why i like cats though, because they give us those looks and ignore us and act so in charge. I think they definitely enjoy your company always

I love how peaceful they are sitting there enjoying the rain. It's real cozy and safe feeling. Can I come stay with the kitties? :-)
