@heywtfayla Yes he would be the same guy. amazing vocalist and instumentalist , pardon spelling. But ihsahn has directed some of the most and iffluential black metal of are time.
Ihsahn!!! One of metal's all-time greatest composers. Flame me if you feel you must, but "Prometheus" is my favorite Emperor album for that reason (solely composed by Ihsahn). Don't worry, I love their other albums just as much as the next guy. Looking forward to MUCH more from Ihsahn! RIP Emperor...
No they don't. I like each differently, both sound unique to me, esp. Pete's growling, I must confess. And kicking him out was the greatest favor Norther guys did for us.
@killface6789 That might be 1000% true, but still I can easily say that because I adore Ensiferum way more than what I could have ever had for Norther. And since Pete had done so much for Norther and had brought it so far, he could have never decided to leave it on his own. So I am glad that Norther guys made the decision for him and left him 100% for us. ^^
@nodeterin that isnt for everyone i loved Petri way more in Norther, and Ensiferum was best off with Jari even though with Petri they still sound fucking great, too me Norther should have always been his main band
@killface6789 I ca not say the same. He has changed so much in Ensiferum and do I love those changes! A look at Pete on the stage with Enska, how sometimes he just can't help smiling and seems to have a really good time... I think it was the right thing for him (and for us :D). And as to Jari, he must have been there when Enska started, but he was not right for carrying on. I am perfectly satisfied with how things are now (for Ensiferum). ^^
All you fags who feel the need to comment about my post should just go kill yourself. You think I know nothing of music based on my comment about Ihsahn's new album and his over the top use of keys. I have all the Emperor albums, and guess what they have keyboards and that doesn't bother me, because it's Great music. I think, get "I" think IMO that his solo stuff relies too much on keys for the melody whereas his guitar was more of the driving force. Oh! I know you disagree already, who cares!
YOU seem to care a lot. Keep on listening to Emperor, that's great music. AS Ihsahn solo stuff is. The fact you didn't like it is just your opinion and taste. Nothing more, nothing less.

Somebody please unplug those fucking keyboards....I fucking Hate keys in Metal, Yeah I know that there was alot of keyboards in Emperor music, but I could handle that because it contributed to the Evil-ness of the music. His solo shit is just that..shit. Great guitarist though always has been.
The fuck are you on about, the keys in this song makes it something increadibly special even above that which was to be expected from Ihsahn's awesomeness

his screams arent sounding very good anymore, not like they did in Emperor, is his throat shot for screams? or was it just circumstantial for this album?
possibly, but i dont think he is that old, he is around the same age as several other black metal vocalists but their voices dont sound worn for growling...
Im a vocalist similar in style, it is done slightly differently than on Emperor, but overall it is less painful on your throat and a lot less difficult to maintain, which leads me to believe that he possibly is getting more pain from his growls, essentially, his throat maybe somewhat shot
ihsahn has allways been very talented, and i dont think less of him after ive heard his solo stuff...showing a wide range of vocal adility, from screams to clean, ihsahn nails it all!
i heard "misanthorpe" on the metal hammer CD by ihsahn and i wasn't disapointed . i was actually really surprised by his melodic singing on this track! being in mind that was only other song i had listened but kick ass still lol IHSAHN!
i love this video. it shows how emperor was such and important part of his career/life. It's good to know that he'll never forget where he came from. Long Live Ihsahn!
This guy's a great musician and a wonderful singer but god I have never liked his screams, especially in his solo work. They just sound way too pinched and brittle. Also, why's it say "ex-Emperor" ?
Because Emperor are no longer. The reunion shows in 2006 and 2007 were their last. The Emperor Live Inferno Box set out in April is the last nail in the Emperor coffin, according to Samoth.
And I do like Ihsahn screams a lot though I know they're not for everyone.
Really? I personally think his screams are some of the best out there. He's one of the few vocalists that can actually portray some real emotion when he screams. Especially in this song or in 'Citizen' his pain and contempt comes across very powerfully in the screaming.
You need to remember that other musicians in ''Ihsahn'' have other commitments so its not so easy to put together live shows in other parts of europe. Besides I'm pretty sure from recent interviews that Ihsahn is sick & tired of playing live and would rather concentrate on just making albums & of course he also has a teaching job.

listen kido you dont need to be professional artist to hear that his production is made for the ears of 13-18 years old kids that will think it sounds good
there are some of us that are a little above this age and listen to this man from his first cds when there was no such thing as even emperor and i studied sound and this production sounds like shit i actually think he aimed to the ears of kids to sell his cd
Assuming someone is a kid just proves how narrow minded in your own opinion you are ok "kido". BMs production has always been slightly less than perfect. This was something pioneered by the likes of Mayhem, Darkthrone and even Emperor. It's only in recent years that some bands have started looking past that as a genre defining quality and increased their production values. Most of the bands that have done this though are no longer regarded as "troo" or "kvlt". Nothing wrong with this sound..
based on the nothing that you say your words i got no argue with you
i didnt say what i think i said facts
you can like the smell of shit but it is still a shit
i guess you are one of those who will argue of the sake of your opinion about when a fact is given so i will stop it now i am not 11 years old anymore to argue about facts
First, this doesn't sell to kids that much, and second, I know that this production is "yes' done on purpose, but the one of experimentation. This "shit" sound was obtained by mixing the album on 1950/1960 gears in the JukeJoint Studio in Notodden (Blues studio). This is plain experimentation. Sounding good can vary from an individual to another. We don't have the same ears, brains, and tastes.
Yes I do think it's good. And why not experiment with the sound ? I listen to music since I'm five years old, and metal has always been one of my favorite style. I do appreciate that this musician in particular, has the guts to overcome the standards of the sound regularly accepted or imposed by the industry of the fans. I do know it sounds thin and dry, but, this let me appreciate others things than the so called wall of sound or the thick overwhelming metal production. That's my opinion.
i was listening to all the Norwegians little after they started
this is not Norwegian black metal
i knew million black metal heads
only one of them really knows what black metal is
today there is no such thing as black metal only underground bands that stay true to the style and not selling out to sell music to little kids like Ihsahn i dont say its bad
he knows where he came from, and never forget's it, this is why I respect this man. Those signature vocals is what made emperor..he's gotten avant garde' which suits him well.
ihsahn has such a unique pinch harmonic technique! You can recognise him on any record from that alone! I love listening to old skool Emperor and seeing how much Ihsahn has grown and improved. These albums are truly magnificent!
The Ihsahn recordings perfectly encompass everything he's ever done is his long and successful career. From emperor through peccatum. All blended seemlessly. The new album is great. I hope he makes more.
I was an occasional Emperor fan,but I always enjoyed their stuff. There are some people in music who are truly genius in musical ability and Ihsahn is one of those people...it is amazing to me how some people's brains work in writing music and arrangements.
Actually i fully agree with you there kekeke83...I love emperor its my favorite band...but Ihsahn's songs are so much more type of flowing...really makes it a good time listening to....and this beautyful change in the middle of the song is epic.
absolutely, by going solo he probably enjoys more freedom to experiment since he's not expected to make another emperor album. also, i recently saw a video interview with him on metalkult . com and he was much more of a relaxed person than i imagined him to be.
just can't wait to listen him in Loomis song!

This "shit" sound was obtained by mixing the album on 1950/1960 gears in the JukeJoint Studio in Notodden (Blues studio). This is plain experimentation. Sounding good can vary from an individual to another. We don't have the same ears, brains, and tastes.

actually not really :)
there is no one sound man that i know and i know a few people wih good ears :)
only the kids that i know (teach music) that listen to metal say its good 14-16 years old
the people who really understand in sound can shit on this production
if he wants to experiment he should do it with music not with the sound
and even if he did it with the production can you honestly say its good ?
WishingBones 3 years ago
Yes I do think it's good. And why not experiment with the sound ? I listen to music since I'm five years old, and metal has always been one of my favorite style. I do appreciate that this musician in particular, has the guts to overcome the standards of the sound regularly accepted or imposed by the industry of the fans. I do know it sounds thin and dry, but, this let me appreciate others things than the so called wall of sound or the thick overwhelming metal production. That's my opinion.

What kind of stupid production is this drenched in? Especially the drums, sheesh. How could they finish mixing that and think "Okay. This is good."

You both do know about the style that is norwegian black metal yeah?
wimpynz 3 years ago
i listen to black metal more then 10 years
i was listening to all the Norwegians little after they started
this is not Norwegian black metal
i knew million black metal heads
only one of them really knows what black metal is
today there is no such thing as black metal only underground bands that stay true to the style and not selling out to sell music to little kids like Ihsahn i dont say its bad
but saying its norwegian black metal ?
how old are you if you dont mind?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
drums suck, you cant say a bass drum, just take the bass out of it, sounds like wet t-shirt.

he knows where he came from, and never forget's it, this is why I respect this man. Those signature vocals is what made emperor..he's gotten avant garde' which suits him well.

(not that the old skool Emperor albums were primitive or anything!)

ihsahn has such a unique pinch harmonic technique!

Actually i fully agree with you there kekeke83...I love emperor its my favorite band...but Ihsahn's songs are so much more type of flowing...really makes it a good time listening to....and this beautyful change in the middle of the song is epic.
kerrelim 3 years ago
absolutely, by going solo he probably enjoys more freedom to experiment since he's not expected to make another emperor album. also, i recently saw a video interview with him on metalkult . com and he was much more of a relaxed person than i imagined him to be.
kekeke83 3 years ago
many will disagree with me but isahn's solo albums are probably his finest work.
